Does anyone know if UWW is going to do something at their first home game this upcoming year to honor/recognize their national championship? Like at halftime or something?

that'll be cool if they hoist up a national championship flag at halftime somewhere around the stadium, and then they'll keep it up year round. Kind of like how UWW men's basketball team has a couple NCAA championship banners in their gymnasium.

Just an idea....

And a very good one...... :)

Interesting question. UWL recognized its championship teams in writing on the western facade of the football field; they list the years for those titles, and the track team's accomplishments, and maybe one other sport? But now with Memorial Stadium being torn down, it will be interesting to see if/how UWL decides to recognize those accomplishments again with the new stadium...

Downtown: D-III has schools that will play anyone/anywhere too. Problem is we don't have the gate guarantees that make these games worthwhile.

Guys,
I've got some great news. Brady Ramseier headed out to Calgary this morning at 5:20 out of Milwaukee....Is gonna be signing a contract today. It sounds like they already started camp and he will be able to make it for the second practice today.

UWWFan

Now a couple things on the conversation at hand.......Bobo, I remember Ramseier telling me that Dinkle told him that UMHB wanted to continue the series next year, but because of budget problems, we were unable to.....Makes me wonder though how they can go out to Washington then this fall.
Also, as far as MWC not wanting to play WIAC teams. St. Norbert did a couple years ago against WW. And, oh yeah, they only get one nc a year. Also, don't forget they are nowhere near the MIAC as far as talent, let alone the WIAC. Some of those guys would flat out get anialated.

They were probably already committed to playing UPS and couldn't afford two trips.

Hey, UWW fan that is great! Congrats to Brady and good luck in Calgary.....

The WIAC is not the only conference with this problem.  The MAC has had it, the NJAC has had it.  Back when NJCU had a football team, they never had a problem getting a full schedule, they sucked everyone was willing to play them.  Rowan, MSU and TCNJ always had a problem, they were good and no one wanted to play them in and OOC game.  I give a lot of credit to CNU, they played Rowan several years in a row and I think it helped them become a better program.  The same could be said in basketball for schools like Farmingdale and Stevens Tech, they would play NJAC teams every year and they are both much better now because of it.

My guess is that getting to Tacoma is a heck of a lot easier than getting to Belton.  I'm not a travel agent and have only been to Sea-Tac once, and never to Belton, but didn't it take something like a day and a half for UWW to get to Texas 2 years ago to play UMHB?  I think I remember hearing stories of the long trip to Texas.

The trip most likely is longer to get to Belton since UWW most likely would fly to Dallas and then have to get a bus for a 2-3 hour trip.

But I thought I heard the reason why it took so long was because the team went to Valley Ranch where the Cowboys practice?

I remember that they flew into like Dallas and then held a practice down at Valley Ranch ....took a tour of the ranch and I believe they may have stayed in Dallas a night.
I think that Pat may be right on this one....already commited to UPS.....speaking of UPS, this isn't the team RF went out and played a couple years ago, is it? I just remember they went out to Washington.

Augustana gets credit for being willing to play Platteville much like SJU is willing to play UW-RF and UW-EC,  but it seems no one else is willing to take on any team with better records in the WIAC.
Umm, SJU plays EC when they were contenders ... and, in fact, played them during their most recent WIAC title season and two runner-up seasons.

In fact, if the bookstore or program would start selling a National Championship flag, I could replace the tattered Warhawk flag on my garage!  I use to put it up only during football season but since the Championship, I haven't been able to bring myself to take it down.   ;D

Yea, I bought a regular Warhawk flag from the bookstore last season. I had mine up until baseball season rolled around. They should definitly do something at the Perk to recognize their championship. Not just mention it on a banner with other programs by the baseball/softball field, if that's what they did.

I can see having some souveneirs or something, but last season is over. That team is gone. It's time to start thinking about this year, and this years team. I think they have had enough celebration for last year.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Good point, but I wasn't really refering to a celebration. rather just something more permanent that might be seen around the Perk for years to come, that's all.

but i can't wait till the '08 year kicks off though!

OH, and I think the NCAA should step in sometime about this whole avoiding the WIAC like the plague. How can some of these schools be judged fairly if they have played only 9 games, and a team has to play a conference opponent TWICE (just wanted to make that point again) so they don't have 8 games?

Funniest line I've read in a while.  Downtown, after the NCAA is done in the WIAC could you please send them out to the NWC and ASC for the scheduling issues some of our teams have been having for years.

Your problem is location as in not many West Coast D-III schools.

Location is not a problem in Wisconsin, you have several schools with in the area that you can play. Our problem is that schools that are nearby choose not to play any of the WIAC schools. However, those conferences are bigger as in number of teams then the WIAC, so they only need to find two non-conference opponents.

With that being said, I think it's going to be occurring more where we are going to have WIAC schools having to play each other twice in a season, just to get scheduling done. Or, we beg D-II schools to play us...

I for see a problem in which if Eau Claire can match the same success they had last year, they could finish 5-2 in the WIAC, but not make it to the play-offs because of a 6-3 record, or, create controversy by getting in. Hard to debate on whether a 6-3 team should be in when they faced the defending National Champions twice or an 8-2 team from the Midwest Conference.

Either way, it just creates a stir and mind boggling for me.

Does Finlandia have a football program yet?
