A flight into Austin Bergstrom Airport, 70 miles to the south, is about 80 miles closer to Belton than DFW.
Ya but then they wouldn't have gotten to hang with the Cowboys.   ;D

Or, we beg D-II schools to play us...

I believe that a link was posted on here awhile ago where Leipold had advertised for a game on a D-2 football site.............. no takers!

Which is why you get up at 5 am and get to Belton at 11:30 pm!   :)

More than some, Ralph.  It is my understanding that Tony Romo played BB in high school for Coach Bob Berezowitz's brother and Tony was recruited hard to be a Warhawk but was lost to Eastern Illinois University.  The rest as they say......is history!   ;D  It is this connection that got the Hawks invited into the Cowboy domain, I believe.

True!

From what I understand about Romo, he is a "D-III" type of guy!   :)

Romo was all set to come to WHITEWATER with his high school teammate Steve Tenthagen but Eastern Illinois came into the picture at the 11th hour and we lost him.  He was instrumental in arranging our practice at the Cowboy's indoor facility and he also cajoled Bill Parcells to stop down by telling him that there were several NFL teams looking at Derek Stanley.

He was coached by Bob Berezowitz's son, Steve.

True stuff BW. Romo was thought to be a better basketball player than football in highschool also. Young Brez coached both at the time too.

Thanks for the clarification about Steve, Boys.  Seems I was off a generation.  Does this mean that deep down you, Mr. Turner, have some "latent-love" for Cheeseheads as well considering the fact that your Cowboy's star QB is, indeed.................a Cheesehead?  :D  ;)

Hearing that Ramseier signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL and Beaver having another try-out, this one with Buffalo, what's the deal with AJ Raebel?  Is there some kind of gag order regarding his future professional football possibilities?  Rumor Central seems to be uncharacteristically silent on his front!

Ramseier's signing comes on the heels of 2 offensive linemen (1 returning player and one newcomer) for Calgary getting injured indefinitely during the Stampeders training camp, which is now in Day 9.  Sounds like he has some catching up to do.

EDITED:  thank you Spelling Bee Champ!  You must be very proud of yourself!  Are you also the originator of the term, "johnny on the spot." Just curious because you are a Johnny fan -- AND you are always available and ready to act when needed.  Impressive...BTW, is this the correct time and place to use this term?  Does it have to have a capital "J?"  Just wondering...

I definitely think that I will definitely be definite.

I spoke with AJ at the World Series and it sounded like he was headed for Canada.   He said the Viking tryout didn't work out.  It took him a couple of days to adjust to the speed and when he had he was playing catch up.  Winnipeg had his rights but they relinquished them and Saskatsawan had picked them up.  I could be confused about which Canadian teams it is that were/are involved I'm not that familiar with the league.   But it definitely sounded like he is headed to Canada.

Good luck, AJ.

When the first team held their rights to Raebel for weeks after the draft making him unable to talk to other CFL teams and then dropped them without signing him, they really hurt his chances for this season.  Most of the Canadian teams would have had their rosters pretty much set by the time he became available again.   Welcome to the big business of pro ball.  Maybe, like Ramseier, he will get a last minute call.

High school track teammate of mine was Ray Rhodes... a real class guy!

And I greatly respect Forrest Gregg and Brett Favre.

Now the Ice Bowl in Dec 1967?  That one still hurts!

Yeah, it is always fun to play the Packers.
