Let us see UWW slide for a season or two and see if they come back in strong national contention after that.  Let us see UWW show resilience in the face of fading fortunes and then we'll know if you have a dynasty or were able to enjoy just a couple good years.

Let's chat again in a few years to see if Whitewater slides or not. We're not going to solve that one today. But, we know they will certainly have less chances of sliding like during Nov/Dec's past.

However, let's live for today.  We should get a better read on the subject of resiliency by the end of this season using the 2008 johnnies team as the example.  Afterall, they haven't exactly reached a tremendous amount of success lately, unless you consider finishing 2nd in your conference & winning 1 playoff game a success.  But after 40+ years of stellar performances, I would think you could/should expect better. I now have come to realize you speak from experience only when you say I'm setting up myself and the team for disappointment. You've been through all this the last few years with your team. You know how long the off-season gets after a few difficult years - back to back to back, etc.  Only time will tell if the ship finds calmer seas.

Bottom line - seems like when you are on top of the game, speaking of the present is a crime;  while on the flip side, when you're on a downward slope, you can speak of the past like its gospel!!  ;)  :D  ;D  I don't agree and will never concede!!

Call me crazy, but yes I would call this success.

That's your argument?  You disprove historical resilience by cherry picking one season and proclaiming that as expository?  I will hate to see how you will turn on the Warhawks when they fade, as all teams inevitably do...  But of course the champion sides bounce back.  (As an aside, if LAX work their way back to the top of the WIAC, which school will have a better claim on a championship legacy?)

So are you saying that if SJU beat UWW this year, you'll be here saying UWW sucks and SJU is the BEST TEAM EVER?

Oh my, it will be bloody when the Warhawks fail to make the playoffs.  You make every argument personal.  Julius Caesar may have found more loyal support in the Roman Senate than the Warhawks get from the likes of you.

In Johnnie-land we don't expect "better", we just expect the players do their best.  And we know that when they do their best, good things happen (a post season appearance in 9 of the last 10 years, vs 3 for the Warhawks.  I can't find your post season winning percentage, but given your performance the last three years it may be pretty good, even better than our 39-17 in our 22 post season appearances in the last 45 years (yes that would be a 50% post season appearance rate).  Of course, with only 6 appearances for your club over the same period, it's a bit easier to tilt the percentages.)

I predict your "downward slope" will be a frightening free-fall and the crime will the be chirping sound of crickets we hear as UWW supporters head for the exits.

And by the way, unless you claim post-modernism, history is gospel.

We have a differing definition of success.  My guess would be that many people never winning a championship would have that sentiment.  How 'bout you, Klopenhiemer?
BTW, Bear Bryant called and wants his quotation back.  He suggests you replace it with one from former Knick and Sen., Bill Bradley, "The taste of defeat has a richness of experience all its own."

Look, it's really simple if you just stop and think before you ramble on with a bunch of old stats and the same lines over and over.  All I'm saying is that because the johnnies haven't had a lot of post-season success during the same time UWW has had success, johnnie fans have to resort to shouting down opponents with this 40+ years of success business.  I hope Whitewater can have a similar lengthy run, too.  Unfortunately, in 40+ years from now, I may not be around to get in a healthy debate with you - like those with roots to Central Minnesota have today.  So, as a result, my argument is limited to the present - you want to continue to quote the past, fine, I'll choose not to respond.  So, let's hope both teams have a "successful" season and end up able to practice what they preach...on the field...in front of everybody...no holds barred...period.

Gone on record?  The sarcasm in your WvP pick is a legal defense in every commonwealth nation but Zimbabwe.

But genuinely?  My pick... MUC v West Champ.  For West Champ... Not sure.  It's pretty open this year with UWW and SJU having some key position turnover.  Linfield is still looking to regroup.  I'll never back Bethel to do well in anything (but fear they may).  Central had a pretty good year last year and if they can improve again we may all be bagging Iowa (but then they have some key position turnover as well).  And, of course, LAX was one drive away from a completely different season.

So, it may be that for the first time in a loonnnnng time the West doesn't make the final.

But the Johnnies...  Oh, I don't know.  Just ignore them.  I'm sure they'll struggle...

Even Mugabe might recognize the sarcasm of THAT pick.  Well, maybe not. :P

So are you trying to say that the only level of success is winning a national title, and until a school wins a national title it is not successful?  Thats a pretty bold statement considering UWW just won their first national title this past season.  Would you have been making these comments a year ago at this time?

Ripping on my Bear Bryant quote!?1!?  Give me a break.  Why don't you spend more time trying to bring back you stupid penguins.

Time will tell what is happening at UW-W and how long it may or may not last.  My philosphy is to enjoy it while it lasts.   However using the national championship as the standard is probably only going to lead to a lot of disappointment.

The field turf project at Perkins Stadium is back on schedule thanks to some dry weather the past week.  The old field has been removed and they're building walls around the perimeter of the bowl.  That all has to be at field level so the slopes we had were removed.   A crew accidentally cut the scoreboard cable so that's being repaired.

I also noticed that work has begun on the baseball complex as well.

No, I'm not saying that - in sports, I subscribe to the George Allen philosophy on winning and losing, "Every time you win, you're reborn; when you lose, you die a little."  It just so happens I have died a lot more than have been reborn; it's nice to finally be on the other side for a change!  In everything else, success in life are the people who look at every situation with an expectation that they can make it work or make it better...and go out and do it!

BTW, not ripping Bear Bryant at all.  Just seemed a little contrary to your statement - no harm intended...sorry if you were offended.  Bring back the Penquins?  I mean, bring back the stupid Penquins (to quote you correctly)?  Nah - but if you ask nicer, I'll consider it.  ;D
