I had also heard that Joe Munn was considering playing football next season.  He's a heck of a good athlete and I think could make a contribution to the team as either a receiver or dback.

Punter from Iowa Wesleyan College (NAIA), supposed to transfer to WW.

I guess you are referring to Joe Lamia, a 5'9", 175 Lb, SO from Monona Grove.  Here was is line as a Freshman last year:

PUNTING          No.  Yds   Avg Long  TB  FC I20 Blkd
-----------------------------------------------------
Joe Lamia         80 2952  36.9   67   1   7  13    2

If this is the guy, here is a possible reason to look to for transferring - his team was outscored 367 to 92, including 188 to 26 in the first half alone, in finishing 0-11. They were out of nearly every game by the end of the first half. They lost to Stevens Point 54-13 at home.

You're right that they notice what other sports are doing but I don't think it's a contributing factor on school selection. If the school selections were based on the overall score of a ranking where the determining factors are arbitrary at best then Gustavus would have much better players than St. John's. I think it lies at least 98% on what the individual sports program is doing rather than the collective whole of the department, unless they play multiple sports which is rare.

The main limit for SJU is no womenfolk:

"When counting only men's athletics, Saint John's finished seventh in the nation in the final 2007-08 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Directors' Cup standings. SJU led the MIAC for the second consecutive season and finished 40th overall when both men's and women's athletics were considered."

What better situation could a punter get?  Why go to UWW and only get on the field 25 times all season?   ;)

I am guessing he may be one of those players that is helping fill those OL openings I mentioned before  ;)

I can feel the football fever in the air. Seems like a solid recruting class. Then on top of that a transfer OL and D-1AA RB ;D! I can't wait to see our boys hit the field on Sept 5.

80 punts in a single season.   I'd get the heck out of there too before my leg fell off.

According to the UWW Football site, the Warhawks had 82 punts in 2007 (15 games).

Cumulative Season Statistics

Subtract the 32 they had in the playoffs it takes it down to 50 for the 10 game season.

However, when you lose 11 games in a season consisting of 11 games, it seems like an awful lot; when you win the National Championship, it just doesn't seem like all that many!!   :-\  ;)  :D
