The Perkins Stadium turf project is moving along.  I'm on vacation so I stopped by today and they had laid the turf out to the 50 yard line.  It takes roughly 50 minutes to put down each 5 yard section.  Then they'll still have to trim the edges and lay down the sideline pieces.  After that another crew comes in and adds the hash marks and yard line numbers.  Most of the landscaping has been completed though there is still some sod to be laid and concrete poured on the south end.  They're constructed brick pillars around the scoreboard poles and that looks really sharp.  They've also started digging the holes for the new entryway gate.  It's really starting to shape up and there shouldn't be any problem completing it for the September opener vs St Xavier.  Perkins is going to have a whole new look and I think everyone is going to be really impressed with it.

Caught the Pete Schmidt resigning in the Miami Herald - Cancun edition while basking seaside on the Mexican Riveara so it's fair to say it's international news. :D

It is very exciting to see all the renovations the WIAC schools are making to their football facilities.  It was apparent that Goerke Field hosted a great number of events.  It will certainly make for a safer, cleaner place to play.

BlueDevilBob, great pictures of the new and old Field at UW-Stout.  I actually enjoyed playing on the old style turf because it was the only time I had ever had that opportunity.  I do believe that the new surface will make Stout a safer place to play.  I am curious, BDB, did Stout have issues with injuries because of the "old style" turf or was it a non-factor?

I believe all the renovations will help the WIAC maintain its status as the top D3 conference in the nation (even if the OAC and MIAC disagree with me).
We don't rebuild.  We reload.  Finish the mission.

RW91, I've never heard any Stout coach talk bad about the old turf, but their job was to sell it so I wouldn't have expected them to. I know the high school is glad the old stuff is gone.

Umm, BW. You might need a little help in maximizing your vacation plans.  ;D

Thanks, RW91 and Voice. It's official!!!! Im also glad to see that all of the other places that we used to dread going to for an away game are getting a much needed facelift. Pretty soon there won't be a stadium in the state school system without field turf...............I wish I could have gotten into the field turf business on the ground floor.

FWIW:

My wife is an educator in the Fort Atkinson, WI schood District.. Her friend, the PE instructor told her that Justin Beaver may be his student teacher this upcoming school year... Anyways, my wife gets her staff letter today and Justin Beaver will be  a student teacher the first semester at the Fort Atkinson school district... Am I to assume Justin is out of football??

I'm sure the renovations will be among the top conversation points next Tuesday during Media Day festivities at the Kohl Center.

He MAY be, that is if he's not in camp IMO. Keep an eye on NFL.com and you'll find out if he's going to be in Fort next year ;)

The Journal-Sentinal has a nice write-up about a recruiting camp/combine helping high school players get some exposure to DIII schools (and others) in the Wisconsin area.  It's run by a former UW-La Crosse football player's sports training company.

You're probably right BDB.  I should have spent the extra couple of days on the Mexican Riveria doing exactly what I'd been doing during the week before.  Lounging by the pool or oceanside and drinking.  But I hate to come home from a vacation like that and immediately return to work so I took a couple extra days to readjust to being back home and, honestly, the stadium project has captured my interest.  Not that much goes on in WHITEWATER during the summer.  :D

What's up with teams in the WIAC this year.  We'll find out this afternoon at WIAC Media Day at the Kohl Center in Madison.  A full update will be posted late this afternoon.

By the way - teams report to practice this weekend and haven't had a post in here in two days. Now that is embarassing! :'(

That is true, but it hasn't stopped some vindictive, drive-by jacka$$ from going on the offensive!!
