Thanks, voice.  I guess the roster is still a work in progress.  Maybe soon, they'll have everyone in the right class.

magician and kestrel - Thanks for the info. That's actually pretty disappointing. I was debating about whether or not to make the trek up to SJU for that game. The Stiffy burgers alone may have to do the trick now...

Call me crazy, but you'd think that a "historically rich" program like UWRF who has fallen on something akin to hard times (yes, I'm tiptoeing) might have found better use of some all-state recruits. Regardless, it's an interesting approach that coach seems to have taken...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

There's probably more to the story than what's been told...maybe they were homesick.

While I can't refute Bobo's argument, I do know UWRF is having great difficulty raising the $3.5M or whatever it is to renovate Ramer Field.  If it's a matter of keeping up with the Joneses, then those named Smith should drop out because if it comes down to money, they can't compete.  Play the money issue out to a logical conclusion, and the Smiths drop football or play an independent schedule.  That means the end of the WIAC as we know it and possibly the end of D3 football in Wisconsin.  Far-fetched? The precedent has already been set at UW - Superior. Or, take Minnesota-Morris, who competed successfully under Al Molde against the UMD's of the world.  Then the NSIC upped their scholarship funding and good-bye UM-Morris.  So, the Blugolds have to pay a price to play football. How are they different from any other players in the WIAC?

Bears just traded for Dan Buenning, former Badger OL.

In response to Kestrel.  What does River Falls do with the money generated from the Kansas City Chiefs?  Does it stay in the athletic budget?
I may not have much to say, but I'll say it anyway.

pastprime, to answer your question, UWRF athletics receives $0.00 from the school's contract with the Chiefs. (My source:  a friend who posed the question for me to the individual who serves as  the athletic department's financial assistant.) The Chiefs do underwrite the costs of maintaining the game and practice fields at NFL quality, not an insignificant contribution.

P.S.  The Chiefs are "off limits" as far as being a potential source of athletic department donated revenue, especially given the competitve overtures of school's closer to KC.  Pittsburg State is among the most persistent suitors courting the Chiefs.  Heat indexes of 100-degrees plus have kept them at bay.  GM Carl Peterson is the main reason the Chiefs are here. Once he's gone, who knows?

Our good friend Garcon from MU is listed as the number 3 wide receiver and the number 1 punt returner on the Colts roster. Maybe the Bears should call last years WW secondary to suit up should he get in at receiver Sunday.

I'm confused.  In one sentence you say RF receives "$0.00" from the Chief and then two sentences later you say the Chief underwrite the expense of maintaining the game and practice fields.  What does the athletic department do with the money they would normally spend maintaining the game and practice fields?    And are you saying that RF absorbs the cost of housing and feeding the Chief players and personnel?

Also does the university earn any money from the sale of merchandise to those who come to observe the Chief practice?  Like the sale of t-shirts or other items along those lines.

If this is a losing proposition for the university I fail to see any benefit in continuing the relationship.

badgerwarhawk, my secondhand sources tell me UWRF is compensated for all costs incurred by the Chiefs, so it is not a losing proposition by any means.  However, since the athletic department provides no goods or services, it receives no compensation. (Chiefs truck all their own equipment to the practice site). The fields and physical facilities are owned and maintained by the University itself, so the money goes to the U's general fund. No doubt that money then is parceled out to the departments affected, such as University Housing, Facilities Management, and whatever food service is under contract. Without the Chiefs, the fields would be watered, fertilized, and mowed--minimal maintenance.  However, the Chiefs demand better and pay for it, and so in that sense UWRF athletics benefit.  Even such things as parking fees go to reimburse  Public Safety officers who are needed for a particular special event. To understand how this all works is to understand the concept of the "user fee".  If a group uses the facility, they pay for it, and that includes any coach on campus who sponsors a camp.  At UWEC and UWL, I'm told, the fee is 6% per head of each individual's cost of attending the camp. At UWRF,  a flat rate is negotiated year by year, I think.

Got a picture of him standing on the sidelines after the Championship while his teammates shook hands with the Warhawks?  Cuz that is my last memory of him.   >:(
