Then I'm realy glad I was at the game.  Must have been frustrating.

A decent start for UWW, but they have a lot to work on.  Inconsistency was the only constant.  I liked the look of Coppage when they ran him straight ahead in the second half.  Anything else was getting swallowed up.  Donovan was up and down - roughing penalties saved his bacon.  Rusch was the man early, Wells late.

Defense wasn't getting a lot of pressure, but they were dinking and dunking.  Some nice ball hawking.  Hard to complain with only 9 points given up.

Will need to clean up some things, but there is some potential there.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

What was the reason Jake Anderson didn't suit up? Had that been planned?  Or was it a last minute, game time decision? Anderson was listed as #1 on the depth chart.

It doesn't surprise me that Rusch was "The Man". In the two games I saw last year, he, as a receiver, reminded me a bit, and I hope I don't get struck down here because it's almost unheard of in my circle to make this comparison, of the great Blake Elliott. He seems to make the big plays when needed, and has excellent hands.

An injury sustained in practice early in the week.  The staff was aware he would be unavailable.

St Xavier wasn't a really good team but they weren't a bad one either and I think we gained a lot more by playing them than we would have had we played an opponent like Lakeland.  Offensively Donovan did a decent job for his first start.  He was sharp on the short/intermediate routes but had some problems throwing the ball deep.  Their speed at the corners made it difficult for our receivers to get separation on the deeper routes.  They ran a variety of blitz packages and we had some problems picking them up.  On one third down play they lined all 11 players on line of scrimmage, our center panicked and made a bad snap that resulted in a sack for a big loss.  We never did get the running game going though it was better in the second half.   You have to give their defense some credit.  They had good speed, stacked the line of scrimmage and flowed to the ball well.  We'll have to block and run the ball better to be successfull in the WIAC.

Defensively we were solid against the run but had some problems defending the pass, particularly the deep pass where their receivers speed got behind us a few times.  But overall the defense wasn't that bad for as much time as they spent on the field.  The bottom line is points allowed and we're going to win most games in which our opponents are held to 9 points.

Not a bad start for a young team.  As Pat commented afterward it was a good wake up call.  We've got plenty to work on but you can see signs of young talent that just needs more experience.

Last year I was somewhat critical of student attendance but last night they were out in droves.  It was really neat to see so many of them and the overall attendance of 7100 without much help from the visitor's side exceeded my expectations significantly.   The enthusiasm is there, the talent is on hand and we just need to keep working to get better.

I was relieved that the Warhawks came away with the win because if it wasn't for the two early interceptions thrown by Xavier and some stupid penalties by them the final outcome could have been a lot more interesting....Xavier put a lot of pressure on Donovan....I was impressed by the Hawks' back Coppage...showed some moves, some power, and a few times was just a broken tackle away from breaking a long run...looks to be a good one

Went UW-Stout - Menlo game today. Both teams played poorly. Neither really deserved to win. Stout struck first with a TD in the first quarter. Menlo answered back with their own score in the 2nd quarter and was tied 7 -7  at the half. Neither team scored in the second half. Both teams had big punt returns brought back by penalties. Both teams started to drive the ball with the Oaks stalling with penalties and the Blue Devils having two field goal attempts blocked. The game went to overtime with Menlo getting the first shot. They drove and put the ball in, but had the TD nullified by an illegal formation penalty. On the next play Rehn sprained his ankle. Molina was brought in and the Oaks settled for a FG. Stout then got the ball and completed a short out pass for a couple of yards and then found Menlo couldn't stop the off tackle left and marched on in for the 13 -10 win. Pictures in a while.

Pictures of the Whitewater - Xavier game, Stout - Menlo game, and the La Crosse - Hardin-Simmons game have been posted.

Hard to tell who's who from the neck up in that Stout/Menlo game.  Did someone forget their helmets forcing them to share their headgear?

For a visual demonstration of holding by an offensive lineman, this picture from the Wisconsin/Marshall game may capture it well.

Now get the internet audio figured out and it will be a better next game. Talk about frustrating. The Penn Atlantic feed didn't get going until mid first quarter and no internet audio all game. I'm sending my IT propeller head across country next time to straighten that mess out. Mrs. Stealth had to save the cat from the blender mid Q1, just kidding PETA.  ;D  Nice to see the champs at half time even if the camera man needs to stay off the caffine.  ::)

Forget the helmets look at the size of those pot plants in the background. No wonder boths side had trouble focusing. They were all on a contact high. BTW. Menlo is just a few blocks from Stanford. In case  you give a *&^%. I'm just pissed that Menlo had more than enough chances to win that game making Steath undefeated in week one for the Pick em's.
