What's going on down in La Crosse?  Senior standout QB Griffin Moe was apparently benched after the one-point loss to Hardin-Simmons.  He saw no action against North Dakota, and with Azusa, Whitewater, and Eau Claire coming up next the timing seems awkward at best.  Articles in the La Crosse Tribune have shed very little light on the situation.  Something similar occurred a few years ago as well when two-year starter Steve Tennies rode the pine most of his senior year.

The rumor that I was hearing was that Coach Terry was going to take the big check by going up to North Dakota but was not planning on playing all of his starters very much.  I hope that was not true as it rather lacks in integrity and fair play in my opinion.  If you are going to take their money, you should really give them your "A" game.  Again, I do not know if it happened, but that story was flying around.

I posted this last season on my opinion about Terry's pattern of handleing QB's.  When I read at the beginning of this season that he, "hadn't decided who the starter was this season," I just laughed and thought, big surprise.  Looks like he hasn't changed his tune.

"Speaking of LAX's QB's, over the last number of years, watching Terry handle them, I have observed that, IMHO, he plays with their heads too much.  He will pull his #1 really quickly for a mistake.  He did this a lot with Tennies and Shumann.  It may work for some of them but it has to take a toll on a player's confidence and cause him to be pretty nervous to make a mistake. Moe needs to know that he is the guy and can't be expected to be perfect.  It is about minimizing mistakes and learning from them and it is so important for a coach to help his QB develop his mental game as well.  He may have been justified this time, didn't see the game, but I have just notice what looks like a pattern to me."
"Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!"  Dennis Miller

One great nugget about West Texas A&M: Their QB coach is none other than the great Washington State standout, #2 overall pick in the NFL draft, and resident hot-head.....

I found it interesting that Eric Donoval, who for my money, is their best player and had 23 rushes, 166 yards, 3 TD's vs HSU only carried the ball 6 times for 9 net yards and 0 TD'S vs UND. Four of his 6 rushes were for negative yards or no gain. Other than catching a 67 yard pass, was basically non-existent in this game.

I think the biggest problem UWL faced was never having the ball. Consider this, UND had the ball in the first half 23:36 to only 6:24 for La Crosse - 13:01 to 1:59 in the 2nd quarter alone.  Starters or no starters, there wasn't much La Crosse O was going to do under those conditions. The D must have been really gased and looking for O2 the few times they made it to the sidelines!

Did they tank it? I don't know, but the one thing that is pretty obvious is that they are in a real funk.

Congrats to Schebs and Levell, D3 Team of the Week.
Jeff told me the 47 yarder nearly skimmed the crossbar, Levell seems like a gamer. Well done!

5'8', slightly built freshman RB's tend to break down in the longhaul (15 game season?) when carrying the ball 42 times a game...hope the Warhawks are able to find someone else to pound the rock and be effective...I would like to see that 42 cut in half, from now on.  Is there no one else on the roster that can carry the ball more than 1 time besides a scrambling Donovan?

From where I was sitting in Eau Claire it looked like Coppage learned something about being patient and letting your line do the work for you and open the holes. In the first game against St. Xavier it seemed like he was hitting the hole too fast and running up the backs of his line. At Eau Claire he seemed to shuffle through the holes (or waddle-kinda like Bobo's penguins- as I commented to the guy next to me at the time) made available by the line.

BG, one penguin went AWOL recently.  Did the guy wearing Coppage's number have a patch over one eye and a sabre in one hand? You may have found the little rascal!!

Did anyone else catch DIII football being discussed on Mike and Mike this morning? Each week they are picking a smaller school game that listeners can vote to choose the name of...this week it is Defiance vs Trine (actually I think the reason they picked this game was because Defiance lost to Adrian and gives them an opportunity to play all the Rocky "Yo, Adrian!" sound clips).

Last week's game was Stony Brook vs Maine...listeners chose to call it "Battle for the Butter"...for butter for the lobster

A poster and friend of mine SamWill47sju asked me to post a link on the MIAC board concerning the struggles of the family of a close friend of his.

Since his friend is a former football player at UWRF I figured I'd post it here as well.

Sakman 1111

We have had our share of bad luck and tough times in our family but nothing like described here. Stuff like this makes you realize how fortunate we really are.....Putting a check in the mail today....

Sakman, you have our best wishes - you don't have to pay us for them!   8)

Hang in there, Bud.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I made the statement I didn't think Stout would win more than 4 games this season, and some people thought I was way wrong. What does anyone else think?
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Well they are 2-0  with Missouri S&T and Platteville for the next 2. With Riverfalls around the bend.  You could be SOL by the end of Oct on your prediction. LaCrosse at home could make it 6 before they play the champs.

There's only one way to find out if a man is honest...ask him. If he says 'yes,' you know he is a crook.

janesvilleflash

Do you think Stout is better than RF and Platteville, and even LAX? Honest question. I don't.
