A 3.62 in bio-medicine and chemistry is much more impressive than 3.93 and 3.82 while majoring in "gym class". This award does nothing but help the stereotype that is collegiate athletes...IMHO
Good post, it livened up the board a little bit.  I think you do have a valid point here and I agree with it.  The funny thing is how some jumped on you for dissing Sherman when his GPA and major were not mentioned in your post.

Please ... nobody rip on La Crosse for at least another week. I'm sure they'll be ready for EC.

Blugold offense did come to life on Saturday. Paulson looked the best I have seen him....and "O" line did a great job protecting him...and opening holes for Sartorelli.

On "D", several freshmen are having an impact. They aren't just giving the seniors a breather. They are making some big plays.

As for Oshkosh "underachieving," I can't speculate. I'm just glad Moriarty has graduated!

I was certain LaCrosse would be ready for us too.  They weren't.  Unless they get considerably better quickly they are in for a long season.  Eau Claire will beat them by at least two touchdowns if not more.

Does anyone out there who has seen more than one game like myself have any concerns about the UWW passing game?  Also, is it me or does the Anderson kid seem to look more explosive than Coppage?

Again, I've only seen one game but have listened to the others on the internet.

stealth

This may explain some of thier issues. Secret practice film taken by the Patriots and smuggled out by the Stealth Raptor late last Thursday night.

The entire La Crosse program seems to be discombobulated.

At least they're getting a new stadium!!

oshfb,
Is this you? If so, how did the State Open go?

The running game was chewing up LC, so thety didn't need to throw much.  Donovan was 10-13, so you have to like the completion %.  He underthrew Rusch in the end zone on the interception - Rusch had two or three yards on Winney, but the ball was short.

So, the concern I have is on the deep balls.  A few underthrows have led to INT's.  The intermediate game seems solid.

Coppage seems to able to plug away between the tackles, even with his compact frame.  Anderson does have some giddy-up, but when Coppage busted loose for 50+, he showed some open field chops.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

This is kind of what retagent was referring to in his post the other day. I thought he was simply busting on the Warhawks because...well...because he likes busting on the Warhawks. But, maybe he was on to something...

stealth, too funny...

I, too, have some similar photographic evidence, obtained in a slightly covert, cloak-and-dagger, ground-pounding type of operation, from a recent La Crosse practice before the UWW game that I'm considering posting.  However, out of respect for bgbacker's request...:

...I've decided to withhold the goods until after the EC/LC game.

BoBo's right - I do like busting the Warhawks. However, I do it with love. ;D. I do respect what they have done recently though. They do have some weaknesses, but so far their strengths have been able to overcome. It may be that way the entire season, but other than UWEC, they haven't really been tested, so it's hard to tell just how good they are.

Coach Leipold indicated in his post game comments on Saturday that he prefers the ball control, sustained possession type of offense. And that has been what the Warhawks have been good at so far-running the ball and short to intermediate type passes.

However, it does seem that there would be opportunity to connect on the deep passes now and then given the success of the running game and the speed of the receivers (Wells and Gifford, at least). Can Donovan get it to them, though? We haven't seen that yet.

Surprisingly, the Warhawks lead the conference in yards per pass attempt (helps to have a high completion percentage)...look under Passing Efficiency

Donovan has a strong arm and you can see it on the short and intermediate routes.  He threw a couple on Saturday across the field from the near hash mark to the far sidelines that were exceptional.  Sometimes it seems like he tries to loft the ball with more touch on the longer routes and the ball tends to float on him with the ball coming up short.  That appeared to be what happened on the interception in the LaCrosse game and I noticed it twice on interceptions in the St Xavier game.  He just needs to air it out, put it out in front and let the receiver run to it.

Despite the discrepancy in touchdowns to interceptions he's doing an exceptional job.  His QB rating is something like 113.  Of course it helps that he's got Coppage and an ever improving offensive front to keep the defense honest.  At the beginning of the season I thought the QB position was a big question mark but so far Donovan has answered the question more than adequately.

I don't think you have to worry about outsiders ripping on La Crosse.  Terry is getting plenty of it from the inside.  Regarding your team.  You could always pick against them like I did last week regarding my team.  Boy, am I going to get nailed at Touchdown Club  this week.  Tell Sip to pitch another shoutout.

Sakman...the Redhawks of Milton haven't stopped talking about how good the Italian Sausages were.  One of the best tailgates ever.  Ray did a great job of holding down the fort for the ENTIRE GAME!!  Congrats to the Warhawks, what a win on Saturday.  Do I dare say...DYNASTY!!  What an amazing atmosphere for a college football game.  The athletes at Whitewater were so superior to the Lacrosse team it was a joke. The O-line looked great and the defense was once again dominating!!  As far as the passing game goes, UWW doesn't need to pass the ball when we just run the ball at will.  I played with JD the last two years....and believe me when I say his deep ball is great just give it time.
