Hi everyone,

After the game on Saturday against UW-W, i have a couple of comments.

First, lay off of whitewater about the the score,  they were playing their backups and they need to have the ability to succeed.  we(UW_RF) had our second's in on the d-line for the last couple of drives.  NBD ---who cares about the score.

Secondly,  UW-W is the most talented team we have seen all year by far.  There runningback should be at a much higher level!!! But he is not, and that sucks for the rest of the WIAC.

Remember, Success and Funding come hand in hand.  When you have the money(from the school and PRIVATELY) to support your program for recruiting, facilities, tutoring etc--I could go on forever!!! That breeds winning.  Again, if we compared funding of football programs with success it would be fairly obvious.  Knowing the info I do about coaches pay with in the WIAC it is totally understood why UW-W is on top.  At UW-RF we have three paid coaches 1 at 3/4 time and 2 at 1/2 time.  Not much support.  Maybe this is why UW-LaCrosse is having its troubles also!!!!!

Third, i can not believe how cheap the UW-W players were.  I have been around the league for more than 15 years and this is the first time i have ever seen Whitewater be this way.  Is it the coaching or the players not sure?  But give me a break, there is no need to be CHEAP when you have the talent they do.  Up 45-24 there are still examples of cheap play going on by the UW-W o-line.  It is ridiculous.

Lastly, UW-W was actually concerned about the game in the fourth quarter!!!! With 9 minutes left they were watching the clock closely!!! If UW-RF had not gotten the Penalty on third down in the fourth quarter, we would have gotten it back---in position to score again.  I think that UW-W fans need to be more objective with their views.

Whitewater has the best talent in the league by far!!!  We all know that!!! But it will come back around with time.  I wish more WIAC fans would come out and call it like they see it.  I am tired of it being the UW-Whitewater board not the WIAC Board.

I have kept quiet and tried to listen objectively but I felt like I needed to speak up.

GO Falcons!!! and the rest of the WIAC

Since I wasn't at the game could you talk more about what you are referring to here?

Unique...   you are insinuating "cheap play" by the UWW offensive line.  Is it "cheap play" or just extremely agressive line play that you look for in an offensive line?

As far as UWW's concern about the game in the fourth quarter is concerned.  Coach Leipold, for the second road game in a row, played every player on the travel roster in the game.   One aspect of UWW football that has impressed me over the past several seasons is the intensity that 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th team players show when in the game.  Ask Mount Union, ask St. Johns coaches, they will tell you the same thing about their teams.

As far as the final two touchdowns are concerned... nothing tricky about them. Jake Anderson's touchdown in the final minute was a vanilla play.   The kid was in the game for the first time this season after being injured during training camp.

As far as the overall game was concerned - it was very entertaining.  River Falls had the best offense that Whitewater has seen all season.

I agree, i would love to read more talk about other schools in the WIAC. but it's a shame that bloggers like you "have kept quiet." as far as i'm concerned UWW fans/alumni never discouraged other programs from voicing their opinion on this site.

I would love to hear insight about other programs, and what they plan on doing on de-rail the 'Hawks.

I agree with Barber Greene, I wasn't at the game as well and curious what was meant by "cheep play."

Also, as far as funding, I 100% agree, UWW has one of the best funded D3 schools in the country. and I'm not just talking about the football program. We just happen to have a VERY generous alumni who happens to be a very successful/wealthy realtor in Whitewater. As a fan and alumn I am very greatfull for having him donate.  Our atheltic programs have come along way since I've been there, and that was only 6 years ago.

I'm not arguing about running up the score, just telling some of you younger fans how it USED to be.  First you had to wait for the losing team to concede. This was done by them pulling their starters. It was considered an insult to pull your starters before the losing team did. (except for a few key players for fear of injury) Once their starters were out, you totally made sure you didn't score, no matter what you had to do. If for some reason the losing team put their starters back in, the deal was off. You tried to shove it up their.......well, you know. This held for football and baseball. In basketball, you'd sub as much as you could, and if you were still pulling away, you would just keep passing the ball till you lost it, but not shoot. I might add, failure to observe these practices could very easily lead to a post game fight between the coaches.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

I hate when teams run up the score.  I think all sporting events should have no score we should all just play this game and have fun.  Then after the game we should all have a capri sun and some rice krispy treats and talk about how fun it was to play against each other.

CHEAP PLAY, can you be a little more specific here.  What are you possibly talking about?

Getting alumni and funding is part of being a good coach.  To get good facilities, to draw good players like UWW has done.

Unique you should go back to listening objectively and never watch football again.

Moving on to this week's games, Oshkosh looks to have an anemic offense...they have scored only 40 points all year...how have they managed to be 3-1?

Oshkosh stats

UniqueInsight38

The o-line had blatant hits after the whistle; when a player was on the ground there was excessive punches and force being used.  As a former d-linemen, I have been in that position and I understand being layed on but not getting kneed and punched.  The o-line "exclusively" was cheap and looking to hurt someone.  I do not know about the rest of the teams play.

In the Titans three wins they won by an average of just over point per game. Then they had a tough game in UWEC, 34-0 in week three.

Oshkosh's defense is what keeps them in most games, surrendering just over 17.5 points per game (4th best in the WIAC) they are also 2nd in the WIAC in turnover margin, +5.

Oshkosh usually plays UWW tough, especially on the road. but i don't see whitewater struggling this week with a team that averages only 10 points and 216.5 yards per game (both worst in the WIAC).

How about this for the stat of the week. Whitewater has visited the redzone 24 times this year already, compared to Oshkosh's 7.

Oshkosh's D has been tough since the original coaching staff change in the early 2000's. Unfortunately the O has struggled at times over that same time period. Hopefully, with such a young O line this year as well as a new O-Coordinator the learning curve will be a quick one. It shows promise that the young guys won another close game even after losing badly to UW-EC. I look for a close game as long as the D can contain the big plays. With some personal shuffling I hope to be in attendance.

The redzone quote is too painful to comment on

Nice! looking forward to a hard-fought game between a strong defense and a young potent offense. I thought about making the trip up to watch the game, but i don't really want to make the drive all the way from Wauwatosa. think i'll just stick to the home games.

Oshkosh vs UWW this weekend:

Strong defense according to stats but what everyone fails to see is that 3 of the 4 games oshkosh has played are against poor football teams.  EC beat them 34-0.  Now I will get credit where its deserved oshkosh has played UWW well while at home.

So I predict the very cheap and dirty warhawks will pull this one out in true UWW fashion. 41-10

I know, i just may consider going. I see it's only an hour and a half drive. Anyone else plan on going? or will i be the lone one wearing purple in the parking lot?

Plus it's their homecoming, i think i'll have a few oshkosh friends that'll be there.

According to a friend of mine who's closer to UWSP than I am, the whole "move to D-II" campaign is from the poorly informed Chancellor.  She doesn't seem to have any better reason for the proposal, other than, "My last school was D-II so why shouldn't my current school be D-II".  I know the staff has felt that she has been out of touch with anything athletics since she arrived.

Apparently she met with the athletic department last spring and the staff all expressed their extreme opposition to a move. Then she undercut them by announcing at the Chancellor's meeting during the summer, that they were putting together a "feasability study."
