Congratulations Derek!!

Congrats, Derek,  What a fantastic catch.  But, hey, D-Stan making a jaw dropping catch..............seen it many times before!  Actually reminds me of the one he made at the Stagg  Bowl in almost the same spot on the field!

Awesome! I would like to thank Brett Favre for giving me the opportunity to watch D-Stan play wide receiver. Without him going to the Jets, this would be highly improbable.

jflash--I know a bargain when I see one. Maybe you guys know something that the closest source to Falcon fb I know, short of the staff, doesn't know. But it seems to me stoutguy made a prediction like this when MZ's dad took the job at Mankato. It didn't happen then, and the odds are it won't happen now.

Right now, MZ is playing with pain because of cartilege problems in his ribs, as reported during the P game. The announcers said it was even painful for him to breathe.

And, according to John O'Grady, he's in the office right now (Monday morning) watching film. Why's he doing that if he "won't play another game for River Falls"? C'mon stoutguy, get it straight.

413,

That is exactly what I thought when seeing Derek's "over the top" TD catch yesterday.  It was just Derek being Derek.

Here is a quote from Rams' QB Mark Bulger answering a reporter's question on Derek...

"He's been doing that for two years now, I think that's why Coach Haslett decided to bring him up from the practice squad just for catches like that.  He doesn't always do the right thing (smiles when he says it), but when you make that many catches in practice its going to transfer to the field"

St. Louis Post-Dispatch Rams' beat writer Jim Thomas described Stanley's catch this way...

Quarterback Marc Bulger connected on an 80-yard lightning bolt to young wide receiver Derek Stanley. It was one of the more amazing plays seen recently in the Edward Jones Dome.
Running full speed, Stanley cradled the deep pass with one hand on the back of defender Eric Green, gathered the ball in, then managed to tightrope the sideline for a touchdown. It was Stanley's first NFL catch, and the longest pass completion of Bulger's NFL career.

One other note:  Haslett indicated in his press conference that Donta Hall suffered a spraining ankle early in the second half yesterday and did not return to the game.   It is possible that Stanley will be back returning kicks against the Jets next week

Clearly, offensive pass interference.  Put an asterik on it!   ;D ;)

Derek returned two kickoffs for 40 yards and two punts for 26 yards in yesterday's game.

A 13 yard average return on punts is pretty decent.  That would put him in a tie for 11th place among the 68 punt returners listed on NFL.com's stat sheet.

Only thing that makes any sense is that he sits out the rest of the season to heal up, and transfers out next season. Strictly a guess.

From Peter King's Monday Morning Quarterback column on SI.com -

"Factoid of the Week That May Interest Only Me
Derek Stanley, the first-year wide receiver for St. Louis, scored the first touchdown of the day at the Jones Dome on Sunday against Arizona. Stanley attended Wisconsin-Whitewater, but he certainly is not the most notable student to have attended that august branch campus of the University of Wisconsin.

That would be John Belushi."

I guess some recognition by national media is better than none!    :);)

Call me stupid, but what the hell does august branch campus of the University of Wisconsin mean??? ???

I think it was a slight backhanded dig.  That term is almost always used with sarcasm.

Jeez, Fred mellow out.  What's to "get Straight".  I just made a prediction.  When you say "odds are it won't happen now", that's kind of a prediction too, isn't it?  You are the RF expert so I'm sure your prediction is the right one.  Maybe I just get in a bad mood when I come to RF because it's the only press box in the WIAC conference where you don't get as much as a free potato chip.  I am a big fan of John O'Grady and I hope MZ is a Falcon next year.
