I guess Point ran out of miracle finishes today, losing a 26-21 stunner to Wartburg.  Leaves the door open for another possible home game for the Warhawks!!

Nice recap, BoBo. It was a great game to watch, and that Anderson kid is a load.

At the moment, it appears that the Warhawks will be coming back to Oregon.

Remember that Willamette rhymes with "dammit."

Congratulations Warhawks!!

Wartburg Fan

Congrats to UWSP for a great year, they ran into a Wartburg team that probably played their best game of the year.

I'm with the sakman. Have fun ice fishing, and things like that on the 10,000 lakes in the great state of Minnesota. We will send you pictures from the second round of the playoffs, as well as the third round semi finals and stagg bowl. I would say better luck next year, however next year is most likely going to end the same way this year ended a lost to the Hawks.

Well, you UWW folks realize that we weren't sandbagging now.  The Johnnie offense played like it has all season.  Not good enough to get by an opponent as solid as Whitewater.  The Johnnie defense played fairly well, but the offense continued to put them in tough situations, and they eventually got worn out by the UWW offense.

Good luck to the Warhawks next week.

Thank you BoBo for the monkey stomp reference. As a member of the Infantry, I take great pride whenever myself or others I know deliver a monkey stomp on someone. Nice job Warhawks

The Willamette/Oxy game isn't over yet, but Willamette leads 27-9 at the start of the 4th quarter.
I'd love for Linfield to get the chance to play Whitewater again. That 2005 game was one for the ages.

Warhawks get off to a successful start to their title defense with a 37-7 monkey stomping of SJU. Defense kick started the effort with a dominating performance against a struggling SJU offense, giving up only 139 net yards for the game.  After starting with 3 FG's and getting stopped on the goal line a couple times, the the UWW running game started to wear down the Johnnie defense, aided by a few key Johnnie injuries.  SJU took an early 7-0 lead on their first possession of the game, a 12 play, 76 yard drive taking up over 7 minutes.  But that was it, as the Warhawk defense came up big when it needed. As was the case in earlier UWW/SJU playoff games, Johnnie turnovers loomed large.  A couple fumbles by starting QB Joe Boyle and a bad snap on an attempted punt gave the Warhawks outstanding field position and they took advantage of the good fortune.

The Warhawks finished with 445 of total offense (averaged 6.0 yards per play), while the Johnnies were an anemic 2.4 yards on their 54 plays.  Levell Coppage had 89 yards on 19 carries before being suffering an apparent ankle injury and not returning.  Antwan Anderson, stepped up like he has all season, to finish with 158 yards on 20 carries and 2 TD's - one being a 43 yarder.  After tossing an early INT following the Johnnies only score, Jeff Donovan settled down to go 13-21-1 for an unspectacular, but steady, 124 yards without a sack and scored on 4 yard QB draw.  Bruce Langer finished the scoring with a 21 yard run from his backup QB position with just under 3 1/2 minutes remaining.  Jeff Schebler kicked 3 FG's, with a long of 41, in addition to being 4 for 4 on XP's. Warhawks improved in the penalty area with only 6 for 45 yards, a vast improvement over the regular season.

Off to take the show on the road to the west coast. Congrats young Warhawks on a good performance.  Good luck next week.

not sure if it was the black vs. white illusion but the first thing I noticed was Whitewater's line (both offense and defense) looked much larger that SJU's line. UWW had their way in the trenches especially in the second half, when Whitewater wore down SJU's line. St. John's QB took a beating today, while UWW's running attack got stronger and stronger as the game progressed. Even against a good defense like SJU's, Whitewater showed off it's depth at the RB position, as AA ran the ball with authority!! What a great game for Anderson!

Defense looked great once they figured out the SJU's "tricky" option offense.

I have to say...I had a great time tailgating with the Johnnies. They were extremely friendly as they gave us more than enough jello shots and polish suasages during the morning. it was a wonderful exprience talking football with them. However, I was taken back with the SJU fan wearing all Mount Union paraphernalia!!! ::)

Looking ahead to next week, Whitewater has a tough matchup against Willamette. very winnable game, but it's not going to be easy.  Go 'Hawks!!!

I'm assuming that "SJU fan" was raiderguy. He's a Mount Union fan, who happens to live in Minnesota and was won over by the dominance of the Johnnies. Actually he's just a big football fan and goes to all kinds of games in the area, but is also always on the Johnnie bandwagon, when they're not playing Mount. For years people thought he was a Mount scout up to nefarious business.

They'll have another offense to figure out next week when they take on Willamette's misdirection and quick strike "fly" offense.

Congrats Warhawks, now take it to the West Coast next week and come home with the W.

Well, That was Butt Ugly. SJU made it a good game for a half, but, as has been said, the defense had to play the equivalent of two games, and was worn down. Good play by the Warhawks. I thought that Anderson again looked like he wants more playing time. He seems to be, in both games I saw him, a stronger runner. maybe not a better runner than Coppage, but certainly a compliment to him, and not a bad option. Good luck the rest of the way.
