I believe the original intent of the concrete was to provide a roadway for service vehicles so they wouldn't be driven on the field turf itself.

DLK saw the same thing Stealth saw. He has already told PP to get it fixed. Consider it done.

At least we know who's running the show at Whitewater.

Running the show might be a bit strong. I will say he is good at getting action to be taken when action should be taken. Without a doubt he's earned the right to have his opinion taken seriously.

But this is too big of a week to be distracted by off the field stuff. I saw a post, possibly on the NWC board that Willamette has a couple of 6'3" receivers. I know they are primarily a rushing team, but the tall guys are a potential matchup problem for us. Are there any west coast Hawk fans who have actually seen these guys (Willamette) play? Or other NWC fans, how do they stack up to, say, Linfield of 05?

Nowhere near the same receivers Carter and Allen were, but Schoettgen is still a weapon to be had at this level.  He's a deceptive "strider" and will get behind defensive backs.  Not the blazing speed get behind, more of the fronted, post entry pass (hoop reference) get behind that allows for him to use size and jumping ability.

Also, Schoettgen is a legit 6'3 whereas Carter was a questionable 6'2.  No matter though, both of the aforementioned Linfield WR's had the skills to get it done at 5'10. No, wait...that was Brandon Hazenberg

Don't forget Brad McKechnie who killed a number of teams too.  :)  Carter was actually 6'4".  Allen is who I think you're talking about.

In the 5 years my son played for the Warhawks we traveled to quite a few different places but were never treated any better than when we were in Oregon.....I will bet the Willamette backers are just as nice as they were at Linfield. I don't know how Willamette stacks up to that Linfield team but if they are even close the Warhawks are in for a real game. If you are a parent and on the fence about going I would encourage you to go especially if you have never been to Oregon.....it's a beautiful state. Good luck to the Warhawks and Pound the Rock....we will listening....

Quotewhen our D-End is probably as fast as anyone on their team their speed doesn't concern me either.

Can't get DE running, or even leaning, too much because a triple reverse is not beyond WU. Wu Woo hiding behind the o- line is what it's all about. Use your Whack A Mole defense.

You guys have to check this out.  It's a story about Williamette's 1941 football team who, while playing games in Hawaii, witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor and later were pressed into duty defending the island.  It's an incredible story.

Thank you, Voice, for providing the link and turning me on to this event.  It's really amazing.

Here's the Willamette link with an ESPN video with sound bites from some of the group who traveled to Hawaii.

GO BEARCATS!!!!  GO NWC!!!!

Mr. Ypsi

Thanks to all for that bit of American history I had never heard about.  Fascinating!

A good friend of mine who just happened to move to the Salem, OR area a couple of years back invited me to stay with them for the weekend and see the game.

My search for airfares showed they were pretty steep - but I found one with a late Sat night red-eye return that was 150 bucks less than a Sunday return.  So I'm going to see the Warhawks out west.

Woo Hoo!!   :)
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

BoBo

Wow, great news Sink...now don't forget to get your picks in before you leave!!  ;)

Being born on 12/7, I know many Pearl Harbor stories - that one about the WU football team up until now slipped by me...great story though!!

Interesting that the WU coach then was "Spec" Keene - today it is Mark Speckman.  8)

You won't be saying "Woo who" by the time you leave Salem.  Everyone will know who Woo is after this weekend.
