Anyone else on the IIAC board sick of talking about St. Johns? Their season is over, we're still playing football and this week we have another tough test. Let's move on, the Johnnies have a good program and do weird things at practice but they still win, just not last week.

Will Bethel bring down the fans like SJ? Looking forward to another week of football, playing in December.

I agree...on to Bethel!

DutchHawk,

By my review of this Board, you Central folks were the ones all interested in the DNA of the SJU program not the other way around.......You must have asked the same John Gagliardi question 10 times between here and the MIAC Board ???  The fact that you are playing for the West Region Championship should take all your focus.......A quick history lesson, the last time Central won the West in 1987 most of today's players were in diapers....if even born.  Bethel will come to play with or without fans.  The winner gets "the Machine" and a nice trip to Ohio.  Enjoy the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, because Alliance will be no fun.

Bethel brought a TON of fans to Waverly in '03 for the first round. Comparable to what the Dutch had in town a few weeks ago. Not too far of trip then, but I'm sure you'll still have plenty.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

One more thought. If you are the best tackler in the world, if you are in the wrong place, it does you no good. Gags and his staff are focused on getting players to the right place at  the right time, and assumes that if you've played any football at all, you have been taught how to tackle.

Maybe you are forgetting--EVERY WEEK IS JOHNNIE WEEK!!!

Bethel won't bring as many people as SJU did, but they will still have a strong turnout.  They will drink less beer in the parking lot, but they will be much louder than the Johnnie fans, that much I am sure of.  They will also implore their team to play DEE-fense!  DEE-fense!  DEE-fense!, but I'm sure you'll be able to counter nicely with the most nauseating PA announcer in the history of the free world.

Bethel had a loud and annoying student section in Arden Hills but I would be shocked to see them bring more than SJU brought, or even close for that matter. They must be a quieter or less cock bunch as I havent heard from any of them yet! Where are all the Bethel posters??

I asked a Gagliardi question on here and the MIAC board because I didnt know how may SJU guys looked at this one anymore. It was a simple question that only got answered by sarcasm and cockiness which Ive come to expect. All you had to say was...well so and so calls offense, so and so calls defense, Gagliardi does this, didnt any of you guys play for him...wait Duffman said he was the only one, maybe he could give me a sincere answer being as though I wasnt taking a dig at SJU, just asking a simple question.

Beat the Royals!!!

Being in the right place at the right time does you no good if you have bad tackling form...the argument works both ways.  And you know what people say what happens when you assume  ;)

DutchHawk, the "does John do anything anymore?" question is one we get all the time, so the attitude you received as an answer was borne out of fatigue. While he does delegate a lot to his assistants, he's no question the brains behind the outfit.
Nice day, huh?

BU will have a lot of parents and supporters down for this one.  Quite a few parents in the Des Moines area anyway.  I figured you guys would get around to talking about the Central BU game .  The Johnnies will let you talk about them as long as you will allow.  I guess this game will get a lot of local and Des Moines coverage.  Your Central team is a big deal to us in Iowa.  You/We have a chance to do something really terrific.  One of us get a shot at MU. The last 2 meetings against the Dutch have been real battles as the Dutch will remember, and the games could have gone either way.  I really expect this one to be a great game.  Hopefully the weather will hold and we will not get the snow they are forecasting.  All the BU fans are really pumped about heading into Pella.  Any of you guys know what time the Deli/Butcher shop opens in town on saturday morning?

Our season is over and yours is still going. You should jump into the conversation and move it to yourselves if you're tired of us talking.

Of course, we don't go away when the season ends, unlike a lot of schools' supporters. We love football that much.

I understand that now, although I have never seen it before, a simple explanation like that would have sufficed rather than the verbal beating I took for a simple question. Thanks.

The shops open up downtown early Roaychilles. You guys bring a good tailgate contingent?

No one will ever doubt the support the Johnnies show for their team year after year. Like I said in an earlier post, when I mention SJU to those not familiar with D3 football programs, they know exactly who I am talking about, and for that I am grateful to have a place in the MIAC. The Dutch are as respected in Iowa.

DutchHawk, I dont know where they are going to put us on campus, but you can count on us to make the game loud.  I think the students will suprise you as well..

When I was working for Hefty, he told me the most important job of the HC was to "delegate responsibility"  Everyone on his staff had certain jobs to do during practice and on gamedays.  And on gamedays, especially during pregame, you could see Hefty walking around and having fun.  He might have looked like he wasn't doing anything, but he had already done his job.  He brought in coaches he could trust and that allowed him to be free to worry about other things.  And I think it shows the assistants that the HC has faith in their coaching abilities and trusts that they can do their jobs.  And I think that is the sign of a really good coach.

does Gagliardi call the plays or the defenses or anything?  Or does he have separate coordinators to call the plays and defenses?

Royalchilles -- welcome to the board! I know that the bakeries and the butcher shops in Pella open early -- 8:00? -- on Saturdays. Being from the Des Moines area, I'm guessing you are pretty familiar with Pella and what the town has to offer.

Will you guys be tailgating on Saturday morning? If so, the lot next to the field is typically reserved for our guests, and people find it a great place to hold pre-game festivities.

I am going to have to make a trip to Pella to be a spectator someday...the only time during my time at Luther that we played in Pella I was coaching and couldn't enjoy any of the pre-game festivities in the parking lots...and they looked like a good time
