Holy Cow! I agree witih a Bethel fan.  Yes holding the Dutch to under 14 could be trouble in Tulip Town.  However our Defense is more likely to score 14 themselves in bad weather.   Don't option teams have trouble putting the ball on the ground in bad conditions?  therfore my pick for Central to score 28, 14 by the D and 14 by the O.

It feels good doesn't it?  :)

However we aren't much of an option team.  Unless you mean the pass or run option from our QB  8)

Freebird-
Big differences between the Pittsburg field and Central's field.
1) Grass vs. Field turf
2) Listening to ESPN radio during the game and the next morning, ESPN guys said the Pittsburg field had had a college game and multiple HS games played on it the week before MNF.

I would agree bad weather would favor BU's style, but the offenses probably won't struggle as much as the MNF game in my opinion.  The Pittsburg analogy is a little apples/oranges to this game.

That is fair, I can buy that.  Especially because the Central field is Field turf.  I do think it will be a lower scoring game.

I meant to add that the field in Pittsburgh had just been re-sod the day before which really made it nasty

A wet field always benefits the offensive player. They know where they are going, therefore they know when they are going to cut. It is much harder to cut when you are reacting on a wet surface. Hopefully having FieldTurf newly installed helps if its just raining, I dunno about the snow though!

Anybody else remember the game against Augustana at Central in the bog, you would be out at the hash marks up to your ankle in mud!

I'm going to have to disagree.  I was on the wet field during the Miami at Pittsburgh Monday Night game which ended with a 3-0 score.

IMO, nasty weather heavily helps the Royals due to our running O and D. It could turn out to be an equalizer in a game the Dutch have an edge in.

I dont get your disagreement. I was stating that the Offensive player has an advantage because they know where they are going. Not that it was going to be an offensive game.

Time for interesting worthless comparative stat time!
                               Central         Bethel
Scoring Offense -        32.0            31.2
Scoring Defense -       17.9             18.0
Punting -                    32.3            29.8(special teams will be huge)
Total Offense -           369.7          409.1
Total Defense -          360.5          274.3
Punt Returne -             12.0             6.9

Other interesting things I noted...Centrals Pass efficiency is 150.1, Bethels Pass Def Efficiency is 93.4.   Red zone offense is very similar however Red Zone Defense is Central at 55.3 opponent success rate while Bethel has an 81.8 opponent success rate.

What does all of this tell us?? Absolutely nothing, Im just that bored. Nothing really stood out to me in too many categories, Bethel carries the torch in statistics I suppose you could say but so have a lot of teams against us.

Time to show up and put up Saturday boys, leave it all on the field and you'll get to play another day!

GO DUTCH!!!!

Does anyone know if the game can be heard on kniakrls.com like it was last week?  Thanks for any help.

I guess that what I get for jumping to a conclusion about Wetzell's 80 yrds/game.  I still think defensive scores will happen, neither of these teams are known for "finesse" both are very physical and will be knocking each other around.  Frozen Slobberknockers this week!

Airborne Dutch

With the way college football has gone this, I'd put good money on the Dutch or Knights in a BCS game. Dutch Radio, I might be able to catch your broadcast. One of my troopers just had the internet installed in his room, so I'm gonna give it a shot there. Looking forward to hearing if you are as good as everybody says you are ;D. Poor special teams play by Bethel bodes well for the Dutch. Think they picked up on that during the film sessions this week?

I love it...Cornell wins two games all year and Heys does the 17 degrees of separation and has the Rams beating the Knights.  It is official: Purple Heys is the comic relief for the IIAC board  :D :D :D.  Keep the laughs coming, Heys and enjoy the +K  :)

Anyone ever remember a football game in a winter storm?

Depends how far back you want to go.  Luther vs Parsons for the championship of the IIAC IN 1957 played on an ice field with snow falling.  Norse won.  Parsons coach said they made two mistakes: Getting on the bus in Fairfield and getting off the bus in Decorah.

Still hope the Dutch win this week.  They didn't in the 50's.

Central had a play-off game against one of those Cheesehead schools back in the 90's that they had to play indoors at UNI because the weather was so bad.  Or maybe it was because the field was too torn up by the end of the season.  Either way the weather was really bad that day and except for the fact Central lost, everyone was probably happy to be indoors.   The weather looks pretty nice at the present.  Too bad they can't get the two teams and their fans together and do it now.

Dutch...hey, I was wondering if the Dutch have got some new jerseys since they played Linfield? They seem to have a little stripe on them that I didn't see before?
PS....I think they look really sharp!

I dont think so, the only thing they added was small lettering Central across the chest. Otherwise I believe they are the same. What little stripe were you talking about?

The little white stripe above the "C" on the arms. Look at the picture on the front page of this site.

It kind of sounds like Northern Iowa is going to get significant snow before it changes over to the mix in the evening, Pella may just get a little snow in the morning and a short period of freezing rain before it changes to all rain...who knows? I think getting up to the dome though would be worse than anything the Pella area will see. Good thing we have the field turf, at least I would think it's a good thing.
