Wartburg Waverly Sports and Wellness Center  aka The W

As a parent of a HS swimmer I too was somewhat disappointed in the pool specs. My preference would have been 50Meter 6 or even 8 lanes with the ability to move a bulkhead to make 2 25yd pools. But the NCAA minimum for competition pool is 6 lanes 25yds. If WC would create a swim program they would only have 1/2 a team - It is "Swimming + DIVING" team and since they did not add a diving area they are SOL. Luther, Coe and Loras have men + women teams, Simpson has women and  looking @ results Simpson my have a guy or two swimming as a club. They did add the ability to install starting blocks and timing equipment. The black lines are done (tile) and finish coat  and paint yet to be done on the rest. There is a "wet class room" so some teaching can be done and then go into class for more instruction.

The floor tile in the long hallway "Hall of Champions" is to be started next week. Some flooring is down for the basketball court in aux gym.

The classrooms are done except some electronics..... then "the expert" will finish and test.

It snowed for about 1.5 hours here in Waverly starting around 7 and now it's freezing rain. As for moving the game to the UNI-DOME there is also a UNI men's game in the new gym tonight

Good luck to da DUTCH.

Doolittledog ...

Yes, we do get lake effect snow ... we are about 35 miles due east of Lake Michigan.  I do remember Iowa ice-storms ... but I have lived in New England, Minnesota and Iowa ... and none of them compare to lake effect.  Plus, there is the fact that the lake creates too many cloudy days.  In December and January, the average number of days when we see the sun is 5 each month.  So, we make it down to a beach in Mexico for a time each winter ... does wonders for morale.

A few winters ago we got 5 or 6 inches of snow every day for nine days straight.  The snowblower helped but the snowplows would dump heavy, wet snow in the driveway ... the snowblower bogged down in it ... and everytime I shoveled it out ... the snowplow came by again.  Believe it or not ... shoveling that crap over and over and over led to a rotator cuff injury.

We can prgnosticate all we want about who this weather favors in this game, but it will be the same for both teams, who adjusts better and does not drop the ball will probably be the winner.  One thing I know it doesn't favor the fans!!!

Given Bethel's propensity for one dimensional play(no dancing allowed, at most the one legged boogie..) the weather would have to favor the Royals running game and slightly negate the long passing game of the Dutch which destroyed the J's.  The sleet and snow evens the game.

Lookin pretty nasty here in Pella.  I came down last night so I could make it to the game today.  I know a couple guys are still trying to make it from DSM this morning.  Safe travels to everyone coming and going.  Too bad about the weather though...the fan turnout will not be good as a result.  As for moving this thing to the UNI dome.  Don't think that would make sense.  Both teams already in Pella.  Go Dutch!!

That reminds me of the old joke-
WHy can't Baptists have sex standing up?
That would be too close to dancing.

Dsquared-
Big 12 Championship reminds me of one thing- Going to Buzzard Billy's in between dress rehearsal and performance of CWW and getting buzzed on Hurricanes before going on stage. IIRC, you and Neumann snuck off to some other place to have him pay for you.
Too bad they had to move the Civic Center performance this year due to the Rockettes. I couldn't make it and I heard it was less than half full there Tuesday night.

It doesn't really effect Iowa, but we've got four inches of the white stuff this morning in Salt Lake City.  It's still coming down, too.  I'm going to have to be quick at half time to get my shoveling done.  I always shovel my elderly neighbor's drive and walk while I'm out there.  Perfect day to assemble the Xmas tree while listening to the Dutch battle the Royals/elements.  I will tell you all...the thing I don't miss about the Midwest is winter weather.  We get a ton of snow here in Utah, but the temperature rarely gets below freezing, and NEVER gets below 0.  I have a huge rubbermaid tub of our Midwestern winter clothes that never comes out of the basement.

Good luck to those that travel, sit in the stands, and play it out on the field today.

GO DUTCH!

It was more so the short passes turning into longer passes that hurt the Johnnies as far as sustaining drives are concerned. Minus the first 2 touchdowns which were 25 and 89 yards. Central has a proven back who has over 3000 yards in 3 years, we will run too!

While the break from "find a way" has been nice, and more like traditional Dutch football...it's acceptable today IMO. ;)

All set up in the press box now and it is a very odd sight out our window.  Field is completely white with the little sleet rocks that are falling.  Good thing we're facing west, because the windows behind us are totally iced over.  Couple Central snow plows out on the field trying to get things cleared off.  Went down and checked the footing a bit ago and its actually not bad.  I'm obviously not wearing cleats, but I could "get off the ball" without much trouble.  Just under an hour till gametime now and we'll see how things develop.

Weather 100 miles to the east of Pella is awful.  Roads are 100% ice covered.  The mail truck just wiped out our neighbor's mailbox prior to sliding into the ditch.  I wouldn't expect much travel to Tulip Town.  Listen to the radio.

Klompen - Maybe I should check before posting this, but if Pat answers about the postponement policy, he will address this as well. I believe that since the North Region is seeded higher than the West Region, even if SJF wins, the winner of the West Region bracket will travel next week.

Retagent,

Your statement on the location of the semis is incorrect.  Under the old format, the Regional hosts were determined prior to the playoffs.  With the expanded format, the highest remaining seed hosts...in the event of equal seeds from the regions, highest region seed hosts.  The issue in question would be whether Central with a win would host the winner of the EAST.  In the likely event of a Mount Union (#1 seed) win and a Central (#1 seed) win, Mount Union hosts in Alliance.  In the event of SJF (#2 seed) and Central win, game would be in Pella.  Keep in mind that the NORTH region has Whitewater as the #1 seed and the SOUTH region will be won by either Wesley or MHB, either way game is in Whitewater next week.

Hope this helps clarify the situation.

Just got word that kickoff has been pushed back to 1:00.  Pregame will now start at 12:30.  Cook some dinner, watch the MAC Championship or Army-Navy and then tune it in.
