The Show

Good first half up at BV this afternoon.  The "warm" November breeze off the lake is always a treat this time of year.   8)  I'm guessing the Florida guys on UD's roster had to love that.

Congratulations to Jesse Schmidt for breaking 2 BV receiving records today!  Most receptions in a career and most receiving yards in a career.  Very deserving.

BV got its ground game back with Rowedder and Crook this afternoon and hopefully Pearson is good to go for next week.  Hawkins was over 300 yards passing for the second week in a row as well.  I was surprised that UD never made an attempt to establish any kind of rushing attack.  However, UD's QB will have some even better numbers once his WR's learn to catch the ball with their hands and not with their chest.  Half of the incompletions were drops that bounced off their shoulder pads while trying to catch the ball.  Still not sure how UD managed to lose to Cornell or lead Central entering the 4th quarter...

Nobody thought UD would go 0-8 in the conference, so that must mean they'll knock off Loras this week??? :o

Time for BV to play spoiler this week as well... ;D

Pat,

I didn't see the kickoff picks.  You really had Central #2.  If I may ask how did you have them at #2 with all the unknowns? Just curious.  I mean with such a young team you kind of went out on a limb didn't you.  I thought we could compete at this level but I wasn't sure with the young team we had that we would be there.

Good job Central.  Keep it up.  I know a lot of us would love to see you in McMinnville later this month.

Does anyone know what the attendance was at Walston Hoover?  I bet it was an impressive crowd.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

I felt the program was already back in the right direction. Yes, the lack of returning starters on offense was a deterrent, but it seemed like the staff had a good plan in place. I was counting on Schuring being healthy and playing up to his potential and I thought that having him and a deep receiving corps was going to make the transition easier at quarterback.

But yes, it was a out-on-a-limb pick as well, I admit it.

I'd say it was at about 70% capacity, including the visitor stands at 90%. It looked fuller but there was a lot of 1-3 person pockets in the stands between groups. I don't know even a rough estimate on a head count but I think 70% is pretty close.

But the tailgating area was at about 150% capacity :)

The Rose Bowl Rule only eliminates the one team that has been to the playoffs most recently. Its not to put in the one team that was in the playoffs longest ago.

I couldn't think of any better words to put that in. Hopefully it makes sense.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Ryan Coleman,
Do you do basketball game photos as well? I'd love to get some UD vs Loras game pics

Walston Hoover,

Do you know the answer to the question posed then?  How will a three way tie breaker be broken?

Round-robin paper-rock-scissors tournament on neutral ground at the Iowa State fairgrounds. The buttercow will be the judge.

CooCoo,

I didn't think that Wartburgs crowd was very large at all.  both sections on the end of their side of the field were empty.  The next two sections in were maybe 20-25% filled and the middle sections were maybe 70-80% full.  For a game that would have given Wartburg the automatic playoff birth I would think that it had to be a disappointing crowd turnout.  Now having said that there were three other atheletic events going on camus that day.  They had a softball game, mens conference soccer finals and ladies soccer finals.  Did this have an effect on the crowd, I'm sure it did, but still I was shocked that the Wartburg crowd was not larger.  I'd agree with Ryan Coleman that Central's side was at least 90% full.

kiltedrat,

I thought that was only on even calendar years.  This is an odd one.  Did they change that and not inform us? ;D

Sure but I live in Minneapolis and the drive to either school would likely kill me. Waverly was a quick jump from home and Pat assigned me that game.

First off, props to the Dutch for winning yesterday.  From the way it sounded, Wartburg was in control until about midway through the third, but we had a complete meltdown.

I don't want to get too far ahead of myself.  Central still has to beat BV this weekend (The Dutch messed up BV's chances of making the playoffs last year.  I think the Beavers would love to return the favor.)

However, it's worth looking at the Pool C situation for a little bit.  I was looking over the numbers this year, and even though there are more spots open, the field looks to be just as tight as it is any other year.  There just seems to be a lot more one-loss teams this year.  Weird.

The way I figure it, there are about 14-17 worthy teams on the bubble that are vying for seven spots.  In my opinion, Central is about the 4th or 5th best in that group.  I'm excited to see how it turns out.
