pat,

duhawks are notoriously slow. . .(in the head), but thanks for helping me keep them in check. . .

Why the defense ain't werkin'?

Wartburg, Coe, Luther, and Simpson all return a lot of starters from good teams last season.  Simpson is probably the team getting the least notice.

Wartburg should be at least the co-favorite every year until they finish outside of the top slot.

Coe returns a ton of guys (like the speedy RB) and has a good coach, but losing the experienced and talented QB is a big hole.

Luther lost a few good players from the defense, but they return the talented players on offense and really played well down the stretch last season.  In the six games that the RB played after moving over from the defense Luther was 5-1 and he gained over 1,000 yards.

Luther was listed by the coaches in the preseason poll as being predicted to finish second behind Wartburg.  They may be the surprise pick by many on this board because they have not won a conference title since 1978.  While they have a stronger tradition than most other Iowa Conference schools, the program has been down for much of the last fifteen years.

The title race was closer last season than almost any year in recent seasons with five schools being a game within each other.  It will be interesting to see how it plays out again this season.

I was offered a job to coach at Ft. Pierce central in 1999.  Who is the Head coach?  I stayed at his house on my visit if it is the same Guy.  He had 2 daughters and a son.  I think he was originally from Iowa or Minnesota.

Also, didn't Charles Johnson, the big leauge catcher go to that school?

The Head Coach in 1999 was a guy named Harry Williams, but he is no longer the coach. Our new Coach is former UIU O cordinator Chris Hutchings & Charles Johnson Came from the other Fort Pierce school, Westwood

Westwood must have been the school I could've worked at.  I remember meeting Charles Johnson's dad, he worked there.  What type of program does Westwood have?  Coming from Iowa on a visit in 1999, I was impressed with how many players that school sent to Miami, FSU, and Florida.  My take on the whole thing was they had more talent there than your typical Iowa Highschool.  I've been at CR Kennedy for 7 years, and we havn't had that many D-1 athletes.

Anyone get a chance to see any of the scrimmages this past weekend? If so, how about an update for the board. Thanks.

Had a chance to play in the Central alumni game over the weekend.  Found out a couple of things:

1)  The older I get, the better I was
2)  My mind still knows the plays, my feet just have trouble getting me to the right place
3)  Mark Kac and all 4 Sangers could still start for any team in the IIAC and dominate
4)  Central - even though they lost a lot of seniors - impressed me with the overall skill and depth of the team.

How about the rest of the league?

And Pat ---->  The re-design is good, but there's a few changes I think could improve it.  1) Make the most recent messages show up on Page 1 instead of the last page.  2)  Separate the hoops and football sections.....too much clutter to get through to what you're looking for.  I do like the new word processing entry, though.

Luther beat Lakeland somewhere around 24-7 during the 20 minutes that the varsity was going at it.  They went around 20 minutes live on the scoreboard before doing 2-minute drills, field goals, short yardage, etc.  There was obviously other points being scored as the day went on, but I think it was 24-7 during the varsity starters part of the scrimmage.

Sherden (RB) sat out the scrimmage for Luther and Pearson (WR) was not that involved, but Scheetz (WR) had a good time as he had 3 TD receptions.  The kicker and punter both looked sharp as well.

Since Luther has so many returning starters, there weren't a lot of surprises among the starters from what I saw at the end of last season, but the backup QB looked sharp and the OL depth especially looked deep.  There is also a backup freshman RB, Iowa Central FB, and Jaeger's younger brother that all looked very promising at times.  The two backs could see a decent amount of carries as the year goes on to spell Sherden or as a change of pace.

Lakeland returns a lot of starters from a team that tied for their conference title last season.  They had some nice size but impressed me more with the QB, WR, and passing game.

Luther won when the #1 and #2 units played, but the #3 units were more of a draw.

1) You can set this yourself in your profile. However, you might find it better to go to the West Region page and click on the "new" icon next to the IIAC -- that takes you straight to the last post you didn't see.

2) You can close the hoops section by clicking on the arrow next to Posting Up.

Glad you like the board. It's very versatile.

Floyd--

You're really scaring me here.  Sherden is the top back on my D3 fantasy team.  Any idea as to why he sat out?  Is he injured?  Sick?  Any info is great.

Thanks,
