Thats a bleu cheeseburger, Doolittle. The blue spots on your cheese should be cut off and discarded.

I was looking at that right as I hit the send button...then figured what the heck, most everyone wouldn't notice...except Thunderbolt!!!

Did I ever tell you the story about how I found out the hard way you shouldn't eat moldy cheese wiz???  On second thought...that's a story better left untold!!!

How many days is it untill spring practice?  As I look out my window to see a blowing snow storm outside  >:(

Im preparing for -15 windchills and a whole lot of snow in the windy city.  Dog how about you put up a large wall and keep that system in god country aka Iowa.

Let me think about that for a moment...um, no can do.  I'm all for a winter wonderland outside from Thanksgiving till maybe mid January.  Then I'm ready to see signs of spring outside...not blowing and drifting snow.

I'm guessing we will hear from Purple Heys pretty quick how his big decision is if he should take the family to the beach or just stay at home and lounge in the hot tub  ;D

Sorry Klop, I think we are both stuck with another month or so of cold and snow  >:(

Well dog I think you are right.  If by mid March I can see some signs of spring time I will be happy.  As for now I am stuck either in the car or in the office and niether is to desireable right now.
Im sure Heys will get on later tonight and talk about how he was looking at Mt Vernon real estate until he checked the weather channel.
But this is just another joy of living in the wonderful midwest.  I do not know I could do Christmas with a sun burn.

Well Heys could do worse than live in Oceanside, CA.  That is a pretty nice place and son #1 did well there and is now at a school with a good academic record.  But if Hey's other kids end up like this guy... http://www.lwwdc.org/Spicoli3.jpg  he might want to get them out of California schools and move the family over our way in the midwest!!!

The cost of housing isn't the issue...its the lack of ocean front property.

I do not know about that.  If we get creative enough we might find a way.

I looked very seriously at real estate in the Greater Cedar Rapids Metropolitan area.

You folks may read about it but you just can't fathom how INSANE real estate prices got out here.

To think, before the crash, that I could sold my modest abode, and with the proceeds bought a modest CASTLE in the area AND fully funded ALL my kids college funds AND bought 2 new vehicles. with residual mortgage of roughly what I have now.

My brother in-law did this when he moved to Colorado from Orange County

Then I see pictures of frozen tundra, ice storms, tornadoes and figure we'll stick it out here and get sunburned over Christmas time.

And you are a native Californian...you ARE home.  Home is where the heart is.  I've visited family in San Diego and I could definately like it there...it's just not home for me.  Just like Iowa wouldn't be home for you.  The house we now live in is on our family farm.  My sons bedroom was my bedroom, which had been my dads bedroom, which had been my grandfathers bedroom...it was his bedroom when the house was new!!!  If I didn't have my family history here though, San Diego would be near the top of my list.  My parents lived for 6 years and 2 of my sisters were born in San Francisco and my dad has said if they had loads of money that is the one other place they would live besides right here.

On another note...I was picturing in my mind 20 years into the future and noting a lot of us from this site were still posting on here...while driving our flying cars of course...and the most talked about topic on the football board was if any teams out there were going to be strong enough to challenge the choke hold Dubuque and Cornell had on the conference championship since it had been YEARS since any team besides those two had even shared the title...of course DF2K4 was noting that his grandkids were now at Central so look out for them...old man doolittle then got a sick feeling in his gut remembering back to the early part of the century and that 3ot loss  ;D ;D ;D

I do not know about that.  If we get creative enough we might find a way.

A friend of mine who is originally from Idaho said that guys up there would look for large boulders in the river that protruded just above the surface when the water was at normal levels.  Then, during the spring thaw when the waters rose, the water would rush over the top, creating a pool with swirling current just behind the rock where you could surf.  Apparently some of the ski bums up there were originally surfers from the coast and that was the only way they could catch any waves without making a trip back home.

Dog I love your story but come on.  Can you share some love for the Beavers?  I mean we have not won a conference since Nixon was in office.  Now home is where the heart is and I do agree with that.  I live in the windy city and quite possibly will never live in Iowa again.  But I do miss Iowa on certain levels and do miss some of what it has to offer.  Iowa is a great place to raise a family.

Heys never figured that you would move out there, I always figured it was just good natured teasing.  I do believe all the above statements regarding your house value vs. what you buy in the Cedar Valley.

OK, how about this addition to my vision of the future...Klopenhiemer posts that while they hadn't won a title in the last few years...the Beavers had made 2 playoff runs in the last decade after finishing 2nd but going 9-1 overall and even made it to the elite 8 of the playoffs once, beating St. Johns and Linwood along the way!!!  How about that for sharing the love???

Here is another shout out to the the Beavers...Dubuque is 2-18 against them over the last 20 years and from 1978-1980 when Dubuque won 3 straight conference titles they only went 1-2 against BV  >:(  arrg...in my best pirate voice

Folks,

Don't get the wrong idea, I think Iowa is a little slice of heaven...at least what I've seen of it.

I've been to Des Moines and smelled the meat packing plant, driven out to Winterset and seen the Town Square from Cold Turkey and the birthplace of the Duke.  Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and Mt. Vernon are the places I freequent most now...hardly qualifies me as an expert.

But here's what I know.  You folks, and folks just like you, have taken my oldest boy in and made him feel at home.  I visit and folks treat me like a relative coming home...even when I'm staying at the Sleep Inn.   The pace of life, the open space, uncrowded lifestyle is a lot to be desired.

It's nice here in San Diego, but it's nice there too...
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

OK Groundhog lovers get ready for this one...

If, on that fateful day in February, I go out to get the paper barefooted and its so cold I have to go back inside and get my flip flops, then count on 6 more weeks of Winter.

I can.

I bought a house in Santa Rosa California in 2000 and sold it in 2003 and made $135,000.  California was not home to me, but was where my wife was from.  We both like it here better, since everyone there has the attitude of give me your money or get out of my way.  We now live 300 yards from the Coralville resevoir, have boat rights on the resevoir and a 18 by 36 foot in ground pool that is eight feet deep in my back yard.  We also have an acre of land and a 3000 square foot house.  Oh yeah, we also bought a brand new Jeep Liberty.
The house we sold was on an 8000 square foot lot and was 2400 square feet.  We also had a home association that could tell us what trees we could have and what color the house could be.

IOWA, love it or leave it, man!
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!
