speaking of playoffs, when is the last time Loras, UD, BV, or Luther made the playoffs?

Not sure about the others, but given that Loras has never finished better than 3rd in the IIAC, I'm guessing their playoff drought would make the residents of sub-Sahara Africa feel quenched.

Didn't BV, UD, Central, and somebody else all tie for 1st in the league back in 77 or 78?  Who went to the playoffs out of that mess?

UD won or shared 3 straight titles between 78-80.  I think in 78 they didn't make the playoffs but did go the next 2 years.  I'll dig out my UD media guide sometime today and look it up.

Loras is one of those strange teams, never really a bottom feeder but never get to the top either.  Last years basketball title for them was their first and that made them the last IIAC team to make the basketball playoffs.

Now you've done it Dutchie!!!

And I thought we all came to an agreement that it was impossible to recruit CIML kids to IIAC schools  ;D

First off I know we had this discussion before but I will weigh in once again.

1.)  If the Des Moines Register, which is only good for one thing and that involves the outhouse, would showcase the IIAC more and dedicate a section promoting this it would be a differnt story.

2.)  If the IIAC would demand from the media that they get the attention they deserve then things might be differnt.

3.)  The IIAC might want to think about holding regional showcases to bring in all the IIAC teams, and have kids work out and have a little face time with coaches.

4.)  It takes a special kid to come from an area of 750,000 people and all the things to do in that area, and move to Storm Lake, Dechorha, and Dubuque.  It takes a person to come there and really like it as I did.  The kids have to have something outside of football, as I had acres and acres of hunting land at my disposal when I was in SL.  So even if I hated football and the school, which are both false statements, I would have stayed just to duck hunt in the fall and pheasent hunt in the winter.

Put it this way.  My uncle played football and graduated from Wartburg.  If I had not seen old pictures of him, or had him take me to Knight games as a kid, I would not have known who Wartburg was until I was well into high school.

According to D3Football records, no IIAC team made the playoffs in '78.

UD had a 27-7 first round loss to Ithaca in '79 (I was present for that game in Dubuque) and a 41-35 first round loss to Minnesota-Morris in 1979.

Waterloo Courier article about Wartburg QB Nick Yordi's trial yesterday...

Not to open this can of worms again, but this sounds like a pretty open and shut case.  I'd be very surprised if he was convicted.

Luther tied for the  IIAC league title back in 1978 (Naslund's first year at the helm of the program), but the Norse have not been in postseason play since they played in and lost in the Stagg Bowl back in 1970.

The best Norse postseason moment that I can think of is when they beat Western Illinois in the Corn Bowl back in 1955.

They have only been stuck on 11 league titles in football for 30 years! :-[

It will be interesting to see what happens with the whole Yordi trial.  I didn't realize this was such a big deal that it needed a trial.

Obviously Yordi messed up.  Sounds like he feels bad for it and in no way meant to create any kind of violent situation.  I am curious as to what was said...or even what Yordi testified that he said and what Apel testifies that he heard Yordi say since the attorney says Yordi used "used a whole stream of obviously offensive and vulgar words".

Seems kind of extreme that Apel still feels "anguished today".  I guess I just personally have never had someone say something so offensive to me that it felt like I was "punched in the face"...but I guess it could happen.

I'm not sure how you could ascertain his true feelings by reading a few quotes from the trial.  Whether he feels bad or not, he has had several months to craft a very good response for the court.  Hopefully this will finally be settled, everyone can move forward and Yordi is/will be a better man b/c of the experience.

According to the article, Yordi said he sometimes yells at passersby for amusement. Dude needs a hobby.

I don't know, guys -- would any of you consider calling an African American a N-----? 50 Years ago, that was acceptable, but times have changed (thank goodness.) Calling a homosexual a F-- (or using the same word to a straight person as an insult) doesn't seem much better. Personally, I think that the language you choose reflects the attitudes you have, and that we should choose our words carefully. If Yordi is using "hate" language, what does that say about him? And what does it say about the people who tolerate it?

Don't get me wrong, Dutchie.  I'd be the first one to tell you what Yordi did was wrong (well, the second according to his attorney).  It was wrong, but not criminal.  The letter of the law is that he had to expect a violent reaction to what he said.  If he yells stuff at people out his dorm room all the time and nobody ever does anything, why would he expect anything different this time around?

Free speech is also for the stupid.

It is up to his peers and those that can influence him like parents, teachers, and coaches to change his attitude.  Making these slurs criminal opens up a whole different can of worms.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Dutchie in the words of your buddy coco "thanks for the lecture". FYI:  I have on many occasions wrote letters to the editor and Sean Keeler. I guess I should have wrote more. I know my spelling stinks, but thanks for pointing it out. I will also write down everything I have done wrong in my life and start xorrecting those errors as well.

Excuse me I meant to say correcting and not xorrecting. See I am getting better already.

I don't agree with what Yordi did, but is this the best use of the taxpayers money? He should have been cited, paid a $50 fine, and told to watch his mouth in public. What he was charged for is normally used in a face to face confrontation, not in something yelled from a distance to an unknown subject. This should have been over a long time ago.
