Thanks for the compliments Warthog and Norsefan.  I hope that it could be a big year for the IIAC in the playoffs.  The one thing that I see from the boards now is how unfair the NCAA is (not really but that is how they are being characterized)  Coe gets a long trip to Concordia and they were conference Champ.  That does not seem fair on the surface but they were not undefeated and both have the same record.  Like the old saying goes if you want to be the best you have to beat the best.  Does it matter if you beat Linfield in the first round or in the Stagg Bowl.  The second season has now started and its one and done.  I'm just happy to be playing now.  The IIAC has gotten two teams in and I hope Warthog that you are right.  I would love it for our conference to get a couple of W's at least and would love to loose to Linfield that means that we would beat #2 and#3 in the country.

I refer you to the IIAC basketball schedule and my most recent post on the bball side.

I think it is a joke that Coe has to travel in the first round of the playoffs.  Can anyone explain how the NCAA can rationalize this? Concordia-Moorhead had the same record as Coe, but they were not a conference champion.

War Pig,

I'm guessing that because they were a qualifier last year.  Not sure but that is the only thing I can say.  But thats not going to stop Coe.  I really think they have started to peak.  I hope so anyways.  I really hope both IIAC teams are peaking now.

In case anyone wants a word document printable bracket, here's one I threw together today complete with records of all competing teams.

Best of luck to all teams!

Perhaps the reason is because Concordia's one loss was to SJU, a playoff team, while Coe's was to Wartburg, a non-playoff team.  I doubt it had anything to do with past playoff experience.

While it was not part of the official seeding criteria, Concordia beat D-2 Moorhead State this year as well.  That should count for something intangible as far as the strength of their schedule.  Coe eked out a win against a really mediocre St. Thomas team and Westminster (akin to UMM, who Concordia whipped last week).

War Pig--

It could come down to you guys beating UST by 3 and CON beating them by 11.  OR CON losing to SJU, an undefeated conference champion and you losing to Wartburg, a 3 loss disappointment.  Maybe it relates to CON going to the second round last year and you guys missing the playoffs?  There's a number of factors that play into it.  I  hardly find it a joke.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it came down to whose field is nicer, and i'm telling you, Concordia's is 7 times bigger. Their vistitors side is the same size as Coe's home side. Not to mention we lack parking.....

Good call KohawkSideliner...that stadium looks pretty nice and plenty of seating.

Maybe this will give Coe an incentive to upgrade their field and terrible seating situation. ???

Amen to that Kohawk Sideliner.  Maybe the Coe administration will get up to speed with the rest of the playoff world and make some additions to their rinki-dink stadium.  Of course before they do anything to the stadium they need more full time assistant coaches/recruiters.

Dutchfan, I hope your right about the Kohawks and Central doing well in the playoffs.  I like Coe's chances a lot, but the Dutch going to Whitewater has me worried about a potential blowout.  I hope I'm wrong.

Being a conference champion is not one of the criteria. Just because you won a conference does not automatically ordain you as better than any other conference's runner-up.

Its hard to keep up with all of the action when you're on the road...Congratulations to Coe and Central.  The IIAC is very fortunate to have two high-class teams in the playoffs.  Good luck to them both in the post-season  :)

Also, congrats to the Spartans on their much needed victory over arch-rival Loras :)

Go Norse!!!
