Having Wartburg so early in the seaon this next year for both teams may be a blessing.  The loser of that game may be able to play their way back into the playoffs if they can run the table.  What does every one else think of that?

IIAC not likely to take 3 teams to the playoffs and since Dubuque will take the conference...that probably leaves the winner of Central/Wartburg scrambling to make the post season  ;D ;D ;D

I do not see either making the playoffs.  I think Cornell, BV, and UD will be duking it out for 2 playoff spots.   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Now I know it is getting silly here.  You have to support your team but to go out on a limb like that? ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hey all I am asking for is for the Cubs streak to end before BV's streak.  Then we can start talking Beaver football on a national level ;D ;D

WOW THAT IS ASKING A LOT.  I would like the Cubs streak to end as well but when you dream you dream big dont you.   ;D

I guess I am just fired up and realizing anything can come true after listening to Rocky Blier give one his motivational speeches at conference I attended.  What a crack pot.

Hey! Since we've been through muscle cars and sports cars, maybe Dolittle can start us on lawn mowers!  ;D ;D ;D

We have a 1966 Cub Cadet that still runs.  These days mainly just to give the kids rides in the wagon and for gardening duty.

We also have a 1984 John Deere 420 that was a P.O.S. from the day we bought it.  The salesman told my dad it would be the last mower he ever bought.  Prompting my dad to think the saleman must have thought he didn't have long to live.  We still have it and it is the mower my kids are sitting on in my avatar.  But I don't use it.

The "lucky mower"  is our Toro zero turn radius mower.  It got its name after I went out at halftime of the Dubuque/Simpson game.  Simpson was up 20-7 and my wife was mad at me for swearing at the computer and told me to get out of the house and get some work done.  2 hours later I come inside and find out Dubuque won 35-20 and a legend was born.   ;D ;D ;D

Looks like an ex BV player is the CEO and one who is in charge of a dept. is the RB.

I think you both need to dust off the old cleats and head to the tryouts.

Doolittledog ...

Thanks for your assessment of the 2008 season for UD.  I'm thinking Coach wouldn't have scheduled the trip to Redlands if he didn't think the Spartans had a chance.  Who wants to go all that far just to be embarrassed?
Hey, we flew all the way to Oregon for the playoffs in '02. ???

I think....Oh wait I know I would rather fly to Oregon and get embarassed in the playoffs than fly to CA for the opening game and get embarassed.

On a side note:  I do not think UD will get embarassed, I look for a good game.

Redlands returns the bulk portion of a good defense and I believe most of the skill side of the offense including the QB.  They have a lot of confidence that this team is playoff ready.  They usually have a big squad.  The '07 edition of the DBQ would handle them by a couple of TD's...the '08 Sparties are going to have their hands full early in the season after a long trip.

The 2007 DB team would beat Redlands by a couple of touchdowns? Not sure what you're basing that prediction on. I would like to hear your take.

Based on some heavy duty in-depth analysis.  You may or may not know that I am from Redlands and my spies are everywhere!   8)   Example:  Your assistant Men's Golf Coach was one of my High School football coaches and he tried to pull my finger back in to its socket until he realized it was a compound dislocation and freaked out when the blood spurted...but I digress.  Anyway, you may be surpised to learn that I follow the UofR quite closely.  I am a former card carrying "Friend of the University".  I knew the legendary Coach Gary Smith when he had short hair and coached DEEfense.

But seriously, my read is based on some speculation, some comparative analysis based on common opponents.  Direct observation of both teams last year yielding 1st hand knowledge of the relative talent at each school.  First, I have no problem stating that I believe the IIAC is a better top to bottom conference than the SCIAC.  I think recent year's performances bear that out.  It is my opinion that the UofR would have had considerable trouble containing Jermar Jackson and the overall superior team speed of last year's edition of the Spartans.  Further it would be my opinion that last year's Spartan defense matched up pretty well with the 'dogs balanced attack.

This upcoming year is a different story.  I think the Bulldogs exposure to St. John's gave Coach Maynard and his staff and the players, the benchmark they needed to get the program to the level of a team that can win a first round playoff game.  I think this year's Bulldogs are going to be better and this year's Spartans have a lot of talent to replace...still, the tough IIAC seasoning for the Sparties is something that prepares them to compete against the better SCIAC teams.

The '08 DBQ have nothing to lose really...the UofR is supposed to win this game.  Them 'dogs are among the class of the SCIAC, at home, against an opponent travelling a long way with some major graduation losses to fill.

The CEO "played football" about like Schmee played football.  Looks like he gave up on the Joe Dirt facial hair--probably freed up a lot of time to run the team that he used to spend trimming and shaping in front of the mirror.

I don't know if I could beat out Leon for that RB spot... :o

Seriously though, they asked me to play last year.  I don't know if I would've found much running room through their 0-11-1 season.

One last hot car comment.  My '69 Dodge Charger, not orange like the Dukes of Hazard (it was blue and black).  Flew like the wind.  Didn't smooth out until about 85/90 mph.  I graduated a year earlier than Mrs. Warthog so I would head out of St. Louis on I-70 about 9:00/10:00 pm Friday night.  Hit US63 at Columbia, Missouri and fly up across Iowa.  360 miles generally in about 4 1/2 to 5 hours.  Only remember being stopped twice.  The cop in Ottumwa gave me a warning when I told him I was in a hurry to get to Wartburg's homecoming.

I did lose control one time just outside Kirksville.  I apparently dozed for a second going back to St. Louis.  Scared me enough so I would sleep before heading back after that. The sleep session often brought me back into St. Louis just before rush hour on Monday morning, but a long Monday was better than being dead on Sunday.

Why would you want to play on that team?  I read a press release that said that only took 20 guys to one game and a lot of them played both ways.

Sounds like a broken leg and 6 weeks on the shelf for nothing.

Oh BTW another press release states that Leon played in a game between D2 and D3 all stars in MN.  Never heard of this game and never remember hearing and IIAC'ers being invited either.  But the CEO did make an all american team.  So maybe his potential was just not unlocked at BV.

The game pictures show that hes still sporting the excessive black under eye paint during games.

PH,

Redlands beat the NWC champion (Whitworth) last year and I would be surprised if DB or the IIAC Champ (Central) was better. Redlands was without their starting quarterback and best defensive player for the St. John's game. They got hurt the week earlier against Cal Lu. Anyways, you and I speculating solves nothing. It should be a fun game to watch this September. Are you making the trip out West? I'm sure a burrito from Cuca's would be worth the trip alone.

Wartburg:  Karats are orange

FYI - intended as complimentary play on words
...Karats or Carats NOT Carrots
...meaning Wartburg is a gem.
