89.1 - My no student announcers is made in slight frustration. I think anytime Wartburg has something on-air or cable it should BE students announcers and camera ops. The tradition of always students is gone and it's sad. But they're taking the easy way by simocasting.

I didn't mind Walston doing f-ball after graduation because he was preoccupied on Saturday afternoons while a student.

I totally understand your frustrations.  The experiences I got doing live events hands on was so helpful for me.  I even went back to my radio days last summer when I co-hosted a racing radio show one weekend.  Reminded me of 2004 National Wrestling when I had no clue what was going on.

Signing up Walston to do the FB broadcasts after he was out of college was one of the best moves I made as Sports Director at KWAR.  He had the most knowledge of anyone out there, along with experience, and was just fun to listen to on the air.

Just out of curiosity, can any BV followers give me a little insight on their Communication Arts program?  I had looked into going to school there and I know they had a solid college radio station.  Just wondering what kind of experiences they have to offer a TV/Radio major.

The TV and Radio stations are run mostly by Media Studies majors - Comm. Studies is a separate program that focuses more on interpersonal and/or corporate communication.  The radio station is pretty solid, and the TV station usually broadcasts a couple football and basketball games each year.  They also have a late show, a talk show (a la The View) and there have been several game shows that have aired in the past fewyears that were mostly trivia-based.

The programming is pretty good, considering the size of school.  The only thing really wrong with the Media Studies program is that it's overpopulated with hipster types who think their ability to quote Kevin Smith movies and go weeks without showering makes them cooler than the rest of the student body.

I will agree with everything regarding the media studies program.  I enjoyed the media classes that I took, but I did not appreciate some of the reactions that non media majors received from the staff.  They seemed to be totally inthralled my media, and studying media in general.

I though the radio show was solid, and most of the tv broadcasting was solid as well.  I thought it was a pretty cool opportunity to get on the on camera time that some of these guys did.  It had to be vital to their future career advancement.

I will say though the male cheerleader who had his own late night show, never gained much respect from this guy.

i'm pretty sure some of you are either state employees or are un-employed by the number of posts that go on here during the day-   seriously, I check this every couple of days and it still  takes at least 15 minutes to get caught up.

Nope, we're instituionalized.

We are deffinatly not instituionalized, but I know a few of us work from a home/satalite offices.

CCIW 945 pages, IIAC 845
CCIW 945 pages, IIAC 855

Yeah, but we're a BASKETBALL conference! :D

IIAC FB 855 + IIAC BB 90 = 945.

CCIW FB 945 + CCIW BB 941 + CCIW in-game updates 161 + CCIW pickems 67 = 2,014.

And this omits the baseball, soccer, etc., boards.

You guys either need to talk a WHOLE lot more, or expand your interests! ;D

To update:

Baseball: CCIW 129 pages, IIAC 5 pages.

Soccer: (no conference pages) Central (mainly CCIW) 56 pages, West (mainly left coast) 7 pages.

The CCIW football board doesn't get much action in the off-season because we're all still together elsewhere!  Are you guys all at (mini)football factories? ;D

Support your other IIAC sports, too! :-* ;)

my bad on posting that ferentz had won, I had read on another forum that he was victorious

coe nation, why don't you enlighten us on the "interesting" candidates that interviewed for the post

this just in, Bon Jovi and The Police will be in KC this spring - as well as  Tom Petty.  After seeing him perform in the super bowl, I can't fathom spending $ to see him though

Ash Park

Why the big secret ? Coe is more secret than Michigan

There's no big secret in Coe nation. They were all set to pull the trigger on Marv Levy when Kelvin Sampson's name surfaced. An interview via conference call is scheduled for Monday. Stay tuned.

I was able to have a short chat with the UD president while at the UD/Wartburg game today.  The W is very impressive by the way!!!

It sounds probable that the conference will have video streaming next year.  He didn't say which sports.  He said he couldn't remember if there would be a charge or if it would be a free service.

He also mentioned that UD would be adding baseball/softball as well as other sports to be broadcast over the internet on the UD site.

In other news my father and I enjoyed the Fainting Goat afterwards.  Though their bleu/blue cheese burger I did not think was as nice at the Blue/bleu cheeseburger at Chameleons in Mt. Vernon.  After a few drinks my dad and I decided we will visit Mt. Vernon next season even though Dubuque doesn't play there next year.  We also decided that if the weather is nice we plan to visit most every place Dubuque travels to next year and in future years...with the possible exception of Storm Lake...that is a long drive!!!

Be forewarned that the NCAA has decided that to save time any school hiring Sampson will immediately go on probation - why should the penalty always be on his successors? :D

I recently was reading through the US News and World Reports Best College's Issues and found some of the ranking very interesting.

BV and Loras tied for the 12th best baccalaureate College in the Midwest.

Simpson, Luther, Coe, and Central were all ranked between 34-78 for the best  liberal arts college in the midwest.

On a side note, Dort ranked as the 2nd best baccalaureate college in the midwest.

Klop, thought you might be interested to know that none of the SOB kids will probably end up at BV.  2 signed with NW, 2 (including my brother) are 99% sure they're going to Simpson, and the rest are probably attending state schools and not playing sports.

Wow.  I will say that I would not have seen that coming.  I would assume Jay had most of those kids slotted into the program already.  SOB has always sent good players down to Storm Lake, besides the twin midgets, scary to see that might be ending.

But, for all the Simpson fans out there, you can see that Coach Glogowski is making an immediate impact.

Show....Did you ever talk with Larry regarding the recruiting in general?

Coach Glo knows a ton of good players from western Iowa who attended football camps at USD.  The way it sounds, he must have been keeping track of the guys he would want in anticipation of landing a coaching gig in the GPAC or IIAC.  I know the SOB kids he contacted hadn't filled out questionnaires or applied to Simpson--he just called out of the blue and said he remembered them from camp and would like them to visit.

It's probably not going to be good for BV to have a coach at Simpson who's familiar with western Iowa.  With Dordt, Briar Cliff, and Morningside all adding NAIA programs in the last several years, it's already been tough for BV to compete.  Now Jay also has to worry about a young, enthusiastic coach who's already well-known to many kids in the area and is now at the helm of the next westernmost school in the IIAC and who was the runner-up for Jay's job just 2 years ago.  It will be interesting to see how each coach fares in the next few years.

Briar Cliff, Morningside, Dordt, and Waldoff, all pose HUGE problems for BV.  One thing that has happened is Briar Cliff and Morningside have had recent success.  Steve Ryan at Morningside, is the only coach I ever met who did not lie.  He said Morningside would be on top, and they are.  Brair Cliff went from no wins to 5 wins here a few years ago.

I do think that the GPAC is not the competition level that the IIAC is.  But they can give money, and that does lure kids.

You make a very interesting point regarding the USD camp.  Sounds like Coach Glo had done his homework, and was prepared to take this job.  Good luck to your brother, it will be interesting to see how this year plays out.  I can only wish Simpson the best of luck, other than when the play the BVer's.
