So Wartburg Choir director Paul Torkelson is taking a one year leave of absence to do some pretty cool stuff around the world music wise. Who is taking his place for the year? None other than one Weston Noble.
In football circles, this would be comparable to several years ago, coach Schipper retiring and then deciding a couple years later to take over at Wartburg or Simpson.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Weston to Wartburg. - And some thought Suckow was a traitor.

Luther friends think it's nice of Weston to help "the needy" :o

No truth to rumor Christmas w/ Wart will be all Messiah next year.
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Since the US News issue on best 2008 colleges comes out in 2007 I can't tell you if the data is for 2006 or up to date of the publishing in 2007.  But it is more current than 2005.  Interesting how some of the endowments have grown in just two years.

About a week ago, I received a letter from the Simpson fundraising dept. and it said the endowment is now over 74 million. Not too shabby considering our economy is in the toilet.

I'm always amazed to see BV's endowment and facilities and wonder how that can't get more than 250 freshman on campus.

WH- maybe I missed the post, but I still want to know how much you heard Simpson was offering (salary) for the head coach? By the way, I met Coach Glo a few weeks back. He seems like a great guy and I can see why guys are excited to be playing for him.

For the record, this was not brought up by someone from Coe...

Hell ... if  U of M (GAG GAG on Wolverines!) could have trouble finding a coach who would accept ... why can't Coe?
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

And in regards to Coe, they can afford to wait for the right person.  Michigan had to get a coach in place for recruiting purposes and the national letter of intent day.  Something we don't have in D-III

Staker wasn't invited to interview.

Hefty is not a leading candidate.

Recruiting to a college football program has less to do with the head coach than most would think.  The assistants are the one's that drive the recruiting efforts.

Also, there are "committments" at this level.  You can say that you don't really know until August, but you can have a pretty good idea with the room deposit list.  Once the rooms are full, it is hard to get more kids.   If you have 20 football kids that have "deposited" you can realistically say that you have 20 committments.

I would be really surprised if any message board guys knew before Pat Coleman and company knew....no offense.

Prove me wrong, though.  ;D
A pessimist is a man who feels that all women are bad. An optimist hopes so.

Coe is keeping this quiet because they are interviewing candidates that are currently coaching at other schools.

I actually think that it is a testament to the Coe followers on here that might know information that nothing has leaked out.  It always feels good to have a "scoop", but we are fighting off the peer pressure.

I know it is common practice at the DI level to let possible recruits know of a coaching change.  Does that go on at the D3 level?  As a coach, I have had a few players take visits to Coe this fall and was wondering if any sort of contact from remaining assistant coaches takes place during this time.

remaining assistants keep in contact, it isn't like they give up on the recruiting process.  they treat it like there is nothing different.  they know they still have to fill the team next year regardless of who is running it.
