Talking about donations to colleges.

There was a former Wartburg coach/administrator that made a deal before he passed away to give his house (next to campus) in exchange for waiving all costs  for his grand daughter to attend Wartburg and his wife could live in the house until she moves to a nursing home or passes away.

He made a great deal.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

I agree that it is a good deal.  But how much would that property be worth if he had hung on to it and it was the last piece of property that was needed for an expantion project?

Probably 2.5 years. It was not the last property in the block and not much can be done with it since it's in the "flood plain"

Lamberti

Same family as Jeff Lamberti who ran for Congress a couple years ago?
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Walston Hoover

I'm guessing so.
The father of the Lamberti that ran for congress is the founder of Casey's General store and is a mega-millionaire.

Coe news...
From what I can gather, another offer has been made to an up-and-comer who is now a GA at Iowa and a Coe Alum. Has a coaching pedigree...Has until tomorrow to accept.
Coe going the young route again as he is under 30. Wasn't Raeburn under 30 as well when he took the job. That seemed to work out alright.

The rumors of several people turning the job down must be true if they are resorting to hiring a GA to be their head coach.

Walston Hoover

He has been a position coach at Coe and Lake Forest (Maybe even a coordinator there) so he has done other things. Not uncommon for guys looking to get ahead go back and be a GA at a bigger school ie: Iowa.

Finding out how hard it is to secure a ga spot your telling of the story seems plausible.

I still believe that it is very unusual to go from a GA position to a college head coaching position. Clearly this indicates the struggle Coe has had with this search.

Purple Heys, I just noticed BV has video of their game against Cornell on their website, you can down load the 1st and 2nd halves.  Here is the link... http://www2.bvu.edu/athletics/broadcast/

The IIAC could pay $500 or whatever amount to bring in a PBP guy and then the home school of the broadcast could handle the production...cameras, color guy, halftime interview stuff like that.

This is a decent idea in theory, but in reality, it would only work at about 1/3 of the schools in the league.  Wartburg, Loras, and BV are about the only schools that would have the equipment necessary to pull it off.  That said, I think Mediacom would do well to cover more IIAC stuff.  I think they aired a Simpson-Central game a couple years back (might have been the 100th meeting or something like that).  I don't know that they'd need to do a game every week, since they show a lot of UNI and Iowa State games that aren't on regular TV in Iowa.

Ah ... Siebens!  When I went to seminary in Chicago in 1965, Siebens' Brewery on the near northside was a wonderful place.  It had great beer and wonderful sandwiches in a "true-to-life" beer garden.  I don't know if there was any connection to the BV Siebens ... but it might have made those long bus rides from UD to BV more tolerable.

BV's large endowment numbers are a product of the Siebens family.  If anyone hasnt noticed while touring the campus.  They have there name on the school of business, fine arts, science, the fieldhouse (along with another), the American Heritage Lecture Serries, and I am sure I am missing something.

The folk lore that I heard was that he donated all this money to the school, under the terms that he name would not be released until he died.  So there were a number of years that no one knew who this person was.

It is my understanding after his death BV turned around and named almost everything after him.  They should have just changed the name of the university completely.  Harold Water Sieben University, or Siebens College.  That has a nice ring to it.

I believe that the source of his wealth was from some type of invention, or inventions.  There is also another large donor by the name of Lamberti who gave a ton of money to see the fieldhouse built.  His grandaughter was a student at BV during my tenure.  I am sure she no issues with the top management  ;D

Here's a link to the story of Harold W. Siebens:

A google search revealed that he also has buildings at the Mayo Clinic and Washington University named in his honor.  I believe the Siebens family has donated well above $30 million to BV.  In today's dollars, the total would be much more.

Don Lamberti (the guy in the huge painting in the rec center) is the founder of Casey's.  Marissa ended up transferring to Drake after a couple years.  I remember her telling me she had almost a full ride because of her grandfather's donation, but I suppose a full ride doesn't mean as much when you're already that loaded.

Thanks for that link.  That was an interesting read.
