It is official Doolittle grandchild #3 will not be suiting up for the girdiron.  It will have to be volleyball, bball, or softball.

On the other hand, maybe there will be a gridiron spot for #3 when the time comes.  You never know  . . .
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

While I was running today, I saw the following clever phrase on the sign of the Drake Library Bar:

"Keno, Thanks For One Great Season"

That is something that can not be taken away from the Drake family.  They may be feeling angry now, or at least some of them, but Keno did something that few have done for the Bulldogs.  You can not blame Keno for providing for his family.

Yes, yes, I know he was struggling on $300,000/year at Drake.....it really, really must have been rough..... that's about minimum wage here, right?  ;D

You know, I really want to wish Kimo well -- he's a great guy that I've met personally a few times. He's good people. I'm disappointed that he is leaving after being head coach for one season -- he's abandoning something that is just getting started.  It's dissappointing to see.

I agree you have said it right

You seem to be a wise young person.  With the carreer moves you have made in the short past why are you so hard on Keno?  A chance to triple your salary and I am willing to bet you are moving on.  One thing here comparing you and Keno is that you being a single woman only has to provide for yourself.  Keno being a father of one and who knows how many more wants to provide for the family.  If you look at the big picture as a whole and not with your heart maybe you would see more clearly.  Am I disappointed with him leaving yes I am, but not to his downfall.  His marketability went sky high with Drakes on court success.  What if he never again would have won the Valley?  Then he would be missing out on a huge pay day.  Do you not think that he can get a small D1 job any time?  With a 7 year deal worth 7 million he may not have to worry about finding another job.  If he is successful there he may not need another job.  I can not fault him doing what he did.

Former Coe quarterback Joe Brannen will start for the Iowa Barnstormers Saturday against the Quad City Steamwheelers and former Coe lineman Sean Kennedy. If you can't make it to the Quad Cities, you can catch the game at www.theiowabarnstormers.com.

I thought I'd share this info here since Coe doesn't seem interested. At least there's nothing on their Web site about it.  ;D
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

I am going to agree to disagree on the Keno Davis thing with everyone except DF1.

Keno's stock is at an all time high?  Who are we to say that.  If wins a national title at Providence 5 years from now wouldnt one think that his stock would rise even higher?

Lets look at the big picture:  6 years head coaching experience, and one national title, turned around two programs?  The man would be hailed at the next John Wooden or Coach K.

Before anyone starts in on the chances of Keno winning a title at Providence first think about if someone said Keno would win the MVC and be the COY for this past season.  I hope all would agree everyone would have been saying YEAH RIGHT!

Being sports fans, we all know that past performances either good or bad as head coaches place you ahead of other people who no head coaching experience.  Take a look at the Chargers head coach.  He has a terrible run in Oakland, but was given the head job over Ron Rivera b/c he had head coaching experience.

This little run for Keno will run with him for well over a year.  Do you think that since Florida did not make the tourney this year that Billy Donnavan is not a sought after head coach?  Do you think with Duke's last 3 NCAA performances that every program in American would not welcome Coach K with open arms?

I should have said "in his current situation at Drake" There's not going to be too much higher of a ceiling for him at Drake unless he does what he did this year for the next 4-5 years, and with the young talent Creighton has, that is not going to happen. He got out at the right time, and his Dad knew what he was doing handing over a pretty salty team for Keno's first year.

I foresee the day when a female kicker is no longer particularly newsworthy.  I'm wondering if I'll live to see the day a female regular-position player makes a college roster.  (I could already envision Venus or Serena Williams as defensive backs - though they wouldn't want the pay cut! ;))

With Serena's build I could see her playing linebacker.  She has some beef in that lower part of her body,  her shoulders are pretty wide too.

Bit of trivia...her dad was a 145 pound starting center for the Waterloo Central football team back in the early 80's...and he was Eddie Berlins' landlord during Eddies senior year at UNI!!!  Mesch is her last name.

What did Walston Hoover sing at the Krusey wedding???
