You are correct Walston!  It is easy to go semi-blind on this and miss a co-championship in a sport where the school has won all the time.  I will edit my post from earlier.

Here is a link from the Dubuque paper with some interesting IIAC news.  http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=201584

UD tennis is getting new courts to go along with all the other building going on there.  As well as a Coe transfer.

Western Dubuque QB Rausch will be going to UD next year.

Vince Brautigams son Nick, who is a DB is getting interest from Iowa, ISU and UNI among other schools.

Another interesting note from that article:

Upper Iowa athletic director Gil Cloud, who oversaw the school's transition from an NCAA Division III to Division II school, has resigned to become vice president for Atlas Pipeline LLC in Tulsa, Okla. The Peacocks won five Northern Sun Conference championships under Cloud's watch.

I think the TH probably provides the best IIAC coverage of any paper in the state.  Beyond the two conference schools right there in town, they also give pretty regular updates on former DBQ area athletes that are now in the IIAC at other schools (Wartburg softballer Ashley Rogers comes to mind).

I hope you mean defensive back, rather than the other thing that abbreviation stands for :D

Since 98,
I've got Wartburg winning 78 conf titles.
Marcus Newsom will probably be working his way up there to "legendary" status pretty soon as his WTF women's teams have won 9 straight conf. titles and a national championship along with several high national finishes.

I only know that because I was just on the MBB site. Not something I know off the top of my head.

Thanks for the humor sportsknight!!!  And I hope WTF stands for Wartburg Track & Field instead of the other thing that abbreviation stands for  ;D

And yes, the TH does a great job of keeping track of Dubuque area kids during their college or pro careers.

I'm hoping if Floyd or other posters with ties to other schools total up their IIAC championships.  I am curious if anyone besides Loras...and they took a few decades off...are behind UD.

Here is what I have for the mighty Dutch:

29 - Football (Great program!)
26 - Men's Golf
17 - Volleyball
16 - Men's Tennis
15 - Men's Basketball
11 - Men's Track and Field
9 - Softball (A great program as well!)
8 - Women's Golf
6 - Women's Basketball
5 - Women's Track and Field
4 - Baseball
4 - Wrestling
2 - Women's Cross Country

152 Total team titles for the Dutch!  This time I checked the IIAC numbers against the Central website pages for each sport.

I need to now back away from the computer! :D

I'm quite sure Coe and Cornell would be,
Wouldn't be surprised if BV was as well, but maybe that will be what I check out.

Upper Iowa and Billy Penn would be good to look at for this comparison as they were in the league for a long time.  Cornell and Coe just joined the league fairly recently, but Coe on the school website does count Iowa Conference titles in various sports from back when they were in an older version of the Iowa Conference back around 1910 (The current Iowa Conference dates back to the early 1920s).

Simpson will have some very solid IIAC championship totals, but I am supposed to be backing away from the computer...

Back in school, there was a group of my friends that would use "Wartburg Track and Field?" in place of the other abbreviation.

Cornell will be last.  I think they only have one title since joining the conference 14 years ago.

Yeah, well Coe and Cornell probably shouldn't count just yet since they have only been in the conference for about a decade.  Though I would count Upper Iowa and William Penn, like Floyd said, since they only recently left and were in the conference for many decades.  That is unless both those schools also are ahead of Dubuque...then I just might have to put Coe and Cornell in the rankings  ;D

My Luther math added up the above total and got 48. :D  I also saw that B.V. won 4 IIAC titles in football and had 14 titles in baseball for a total of 53.  I only checked football because I remember them as having won titles while the baseball number was fresh in my head because they and Wartburg have more baseball titles since 1947 than Luther.  I have always thought of the wrestling team when I think of B.V. sports, but maybe it really is a winter sports school.  The baseball and softball programs used to be good back in the day though.
