MIDWEST CONFERENCE HISTORY BOOK: NO ORDINARY CONFERENCE   
               
George Drake, a former Midwest Conference student-athlete and 1956 Grinnell College graduate, has culminated a project he calls "a labor of love" with the completion of the 100-page soft cover book No Ordinary Conference, an introspective history of the Midwest Conference. Drake, who remains a professor at his alma mater, teamed with 2001 Grinnell grad John Aerni to provide a unique look at the league's history through interviews with Midwest Conference student-athletes and unprecedented access to league minutes.

Well, we do have 2 FORMER members of the Midwest Conference in the IIAC.  So maybe he thought there might be some posters from those 2 schools on here that would be interested.

I hope everyone comes out of this OK and gives due respect to whatever warnings and evacuation orders city and county officials send their way.  I have absolutely zero sympathy for some of these idiots you see on TV talking about how they stuck around even though they were told to evacuate and now they're (quite literally) up sh!t creek.  "Wull, we didn't think it were gonna git as bad as it did.  Derrr."

BASSETT - A Chickasaw County man was in jail this morning after deputies arrest and charged him with operating a boat while intoxicated along the flooded Little Cedar River near Bassett Monday night.

Joe Cerwinske, 51 of Bassett had yet to make an initial appearance in court this morning.

A concerned citizen called the Chickasaw County Sheriff's Office at 8:07 p.m. Monday to say three men put a boat into floodwaters along the Little Cedar River. The caller told authorities that the men were intoxicated.

A short time later, deputies made contact with the men and arrested Cerwinske.

In response to rising waters and continued flood concerns, Wartburg College initiated its emergency response plan this morning. As per the emergency response plan, Vice President for Administration Gary Grace has assumed the role of emergency director during this current crisis and will serve as point person for all on-campus queries into this matter. Communication and Marketing will remain the primary media contact for off-campus queries.

There are unconfirmed reports that the Highway 218 Cedar River crossing at Janesville may soon be closed. Any nonessential employees affected by this possible closure should feel free to leave as soon as possible.

I realize this is a serious topic, but I had to laugh at the "nonessential employee" comment.
