Great photos AEN.  Seeing those pictures reminded me about how nice the weather was yesterday...if it just wasn't for all the flooding going around!!!

Are you in harms way with the water?
Play with Passion  Coach Ron Schipper

Nope, The water would have to rise about 15' before I would get water in the basement.

Doolittle, you are right, it was beautiful day. I was walking across campus kind of day dreaming and thought, "geez, it's too nice not to play at least 18". Then I remembered the photos.

By the way, kudos to Wartburg for how they are handling the flooding situation. I'm sure everyone in the Waverly and surrounding area is grateful for the help the students and campus facilities are able to provide.

(Mark it down, guys -- I'm complimenting Wartburg....this is a historic occassion.)  ;D

Now that wasn't too painful was it? The more you do the easier it becomes/ ;)

AEN, from the looks of that picture from the 2nd floor of your house it looks like the water is right on top of you...guess it must be the angle.

Dutchie, looking at the video you linked, I hope you can actually LEAVE your office today...otherwise your boss will expect you to get a lot of work done!!!

As far as us in La Porte, our house in town that we haven't sold yet is out of the flood plain.  My parents live up by the water tower so they are safe from flooding...they just can't go anywhere, water is blocking their way out of town!!!  Our place just west of town is up high so no worries about our house.

Looking out that window you're about 25' above ground and the land goes down pretty sharply to the bottom of the hill. The water towards the back was probably 20 yds to the property line.

Thanks for the link it is AMAZING. I will try to explain what/where some things are.
The beige roof's are the storage sheds, just East of Burger King. Then it shows some shots of Bremer Ave. bridge. The 4 story yellowish building is the old Lutheran Mutual Building. The 2nd bridge shown is the bike trail bridge looking East to west. (Opposite of my photos). The next bridge is what as known as the "green bridge" 3rd St SE. Once you cross that bridge going south and would turn right you would end up over by Burger King. Towards the end there is a small white building on the right side, that is the old SUB CITY. It has relocated to the old train station - E Bremer by courthouse so Walgreens can build on that block. After this week they may want to reconsider.  :-\

Time to go help somebody, anybody.

UNBELIEVABLE - I just left WC and there is no water on Bremer Ave or 4th Street SW from Bremer to Burger King.
Also we have some blue skies and NO RAIN... for NOW.

Notice to the Wartburg College campus community
June 11, 2008, #2
From: The Wartburg College Cabinet

The Cabinet has declared Friday, June 13, as a service day. Non-essential employees, with the approval of their supervisor, may use the day to help with flood relief. Service can take a variety of forms: helping with day care, providing meals, assisting at homes affected by the flood, providing equipment or vehicles, etc. The Center for Community Engagement will coordinate these efforts. If you don't know someone personally who needs your help, call 8701 and offer your services. CCE director Dan Kittle will provide further information about where employees can be of assistance. This day will not count as PTO time.

The Mail Center remains open as usual. Although mail service has been inconsistent, it should be back to normal by the end of the week.
The Waverly City Council will meet in McCaskey Lyceum Monday night. The meeting, which begins at 7 p.m., is open to the public, and will include a variety of flood-related issues. It will be taped for later broadcast on the city's cable channel.

If you want to watch a stream of this it SHOULD be available @ www.wartburgtv.org

Since I spent time @ P'burg cleaning up after their disaster, after checking on a friend and some elderly from church. (They still had H2O in basements and could not use my help YET. ) So I stopped @ WGC and the superintendent was washing silt from #1 greens. This is the green shown in yesterday's photo where all you could see was the top of the flag stick. (There 2 green and it rotates day to day).THere was NO flood water on them so I help squegee the dirt and rinse water off. A lot of work but they may be playable tomorrow afternoon.

Doolittle,

I just looked at the UD football schedule on their website.  Do you know why the Dutch are playing the Spartans in Indianola this year?  I think there is a mistake there.  I hope geography is not a major there.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, on one page it shows Indianola and on the other it shows Pella.  A Simpson fan I talked to suggested that maybe Central has been so jealous of Simpson that they are finally going ahead and moving the Dutch football games over to Indianola  ;D

That, or the Spartans could dust off the old excuse of..."we just didn't show up today" after the game  ;D

You looking up the UD schedule because you've become a fan and are trying to plan a trip to watch them play this season???  :P
