Footage of Court Ave. flooding in Des Moines (2 blocks from my office building.....) Water has not gone over the downtown bridges yet, but the river still hasn't crested.....

Dutchie, from the reports that I am getting.  You might not be working the rest of the week, beause they are talking about water levels higher than 93.

Mrs Klops parrents own a heavy hauling and rigging company.  Their facility is down on the new part of MLK that cuts through downtown.  The word out of them is that they are packing swifty as the water levels are rising.  We were scheduled to come back to DM this weekend, looks like we might have our hands full.

Spent most of the day watching the water  in the DES Moines river while at work. I work right next to the river on Court Ave. The powers to be are pretty worried that we will get flooded this week-end after all the water from up North arrives in DES. Moines

What is it like near Water Works? Any concerns about water system again? In 93 my in-laws were w/out water for quite a while. They ran out of friends to mooch a shower from they came to Waverly so they could shower on back to back days.

Latest forecast estimates 3"-4" of rain in Waverly by Friday AM. Probably put the river back to 16' level.  >:(

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Our offices have dusted off the BCP. Right now we are scheduled to be there tomorrow. I'm guessing that might change, though, as we are getting a downpour right now (in Clive.) Ugh.... (thank goodness my house is on high ground....)

"Official" reports say that Water Works is reinforced and should be able to withstand the storms. However, I have a friend that works on the inside that suggested that stocking up on water is not a bad idea.

They are also concerned about the power supply -- MidAmerican has energy lines underground -- great in the event of high winds, not so great in the event of a flood.... parts of downtown may lose power, although they say it's not a strong possibility.

Doolittle,

I just looked at the UD football schedule on their website.  Do you know why the Dutch are playing the Spartans in Indianola this year?  I think there is a mistake there.  I hope geography is not a major there.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, on one page it shows Indianola and on the other it shows Pella.  A Simpson fan I talked to suggested that maybe Central has been so jealous of Simpson that they are finally going ahead and moving the Dutch football games over to Indianola  ;D

That, or the Spartans could dust off the old excuse of..."we just didn't show up today" after the game  ;D

You looking up the UD schedule because you've become a fan and are trying to plan a trip to watch them play this season???  :P

Well I do think I will catch a game of the Spartans and they are not even playing the Dutch that game.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

Des Moines just put out an "all hands alert" to volunteers to report to sandbag at 9:00 tonight. Had they done this earlier today, they would have more than enough help, but instead of being proactive, they are reactive. Typical government.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

The Show

Another evening of quality family time in the basement tonight...  Almost becoming a nightly occurrence!  West of us had some decent damage (large trees down, loss of power) due to high winds...we've escaped unscathed...for now.

Everyone pause for a quick prayer -- there was a Boy Scout troup that got caught in a tornado in Little Sioux (western Iowa.) Early reports indicate that 4 are dead and countless injured, but no word as to who it was -- scouts, troup leaders or administrators... take a moment of silence for the latest tornado victims.

(At a later time, I will question the intelligence of having a camping outing with this sort of weather...)

Probably using the info they got from the Central AD.

Very unfortunate that this alter went out at 9pm.  Well put regarding the government.

Show...Nice to hear you and your family have not suffered any damage during the recent storms.  I hope that basement is finished!

WGN just had live coverage from Cedar Rapids.  Looks like things are getting ugly there.  They showed a Dairy Queen where the water was half way up the building.  I know we talked about this, but I assume Coe is unaffected by this right?

The DQ shown is probably the one on 1st Ave SW. Only a block from the river right next to the north ramp to 380.

AEN- Looks like the river is down considerably, but I'm not sure what would put it back in its banks. Looks like last night's rain hasn't effected things too much...yet anyway according to the USGS site.
