Central has a full time strength and conditioning coach.  He has been there at least two years i know of.  I think its becoming more common at this level.  I can't recall his name now but he is a grad of Iowa's strength program and has done pretty well with our kids.  I think its the wave of the future.

Lorbec,

You have some classy women there huh?  Thats pretty bold I'd say but I'm an old fart.  I guess thats what feminism is all about.  Letting the girls be one of the guys.  Congrats to Ed Thomas.  He is a class act all the way.  I think his class has always carried through to his players.  Having my sons competing against AP was always great.  Coack Weigman with the Tennis Program was a great guy to and i know he helps on the football staff.  AP is a great program all around.

Dutch'04 -- Central has had a full time strength and conditioning coach since 1999.

DutchFan,
Not exactly sure what you mean there? Please elaborate.

dutchfan1

Lorbec47--DF'04 had made the comment that Central had a full time strength and conditioning coach "for at least two years." I was clarifying that he has been there full time since '99.

Oh, ok Dutchfan, my mistake. Oh, and Loras has a full-time strength/conditioning person also.

Thanks Dutchfan1,

I am only familiar with the last two years havent followed them really till my son went there.  He is doing a great job from what I can tell.

The first test will be to see how recruiting goes this year.

I don't think you should worry about recruiting.  Coach Koehler is very good at that and Wartburg won't miss a beat.  He'll get quality players in there and it finally looks like he settled on a school so thats good too.

Wow, conversation grinds to a halt in here on the off season, doesn't it?

What's the recruiting word? Has anyone nailed down any solid recruits for the '06 season? Any season projections? Who (besides Central) will lead the pack in '06? ;)

I can't guess as to any other schools he's looking at, but I saw a VERY high-level recruit on the Wartburg campus on Friday.  Small school kid that enjoyed a lot of success in his prep career.  This afternoon I saw another recruit from the same position, but this kid came from a top 4A program.  Probably not a name that most of you would recognize, but if he didn't have to play behind an all-stater, this kid would have been on everybody's radar.

Not much to talk about for the time being Dutchie. Most schools right now are just trying to get guys to visit campus. We'll know a lot more guys that we can get in on after signing day which I believe is the second week of February. After that, most guys will start to say yes or no when the financial aid packages come out in mid to late March. And in d3, no recruits are solid until they show up in August since there's nothing binding them.
SPortsknight- "Not a name that most of you would recognize" is code for-backup to Brookins at Cedar Falls and since I did their play-by-play, I know about him.
To the other d3 guys (and gals) out there. What are you hearing about recruiting. I'm hearing that a lot of D2 schools are coming into the state and realizing that there is actually some pretty good football being played in Iowa. It amazes me that an 18 year old will do about anything to say he got a football scholarship, even though the overall package is probably better at a IIAC school.
The new found success of Morningside is getting some of the good kids in the state too.

Walston- I call it Scholarship Kool-Aid. Which is basically the same thing as D1 walk-on kool aid.  I get upset when a great athlete decides to walk-on at a d1 instead of playing a bunch at a d2 or d3. He just wastes away on the sidelines. There have been a bunch of d1,1AA and 2 transfers that would all probably say, "I wish I would have come here to begin with" regardless of the school. But it is very tough to tell a kid that. Some just refuse to listen.

I agree for the most part...however, seeing what Ferentz can do with a walk-on at Iowa, it would be tough not to give it a try. :-\

The coaches have a pretty good idea which walk-ons are going to work out, We hear a ton about the few who make it, but very little if any about the guys who become scout team fodder.

Be careful with the Iowa talk in here, Show -- I think the two of us are about the only Hawkeye fans in here -- the rest of these guys are *cough* Cyclones. ;)
