Des Moines begins selective evacuations downtown.  http://www.kcci.com/weather/16599465/detail.html

They are evacuating our office at 3:00 today, and we've been told to bring work home, as they don't think we'll be in the office next week.

Some people may not know what I'm talking about unless you are from the Lisbon, Mount Vernon or Solon area, but the historic Sutliff bridge collapsed today. Next is the tavern from what I'm told. It was a very nice place to go and just sit and have a couple beers and some food or even fish off the bridge and have a couple beers. Anyway it is very sad to see this flood take peoples homes, property and some rich history away. I guess at least most of these things can be replaced unlike somebodies life. I'll be praying for everyone to stay safe.

The videos coming from CR are scary when you look at how fast the water is moving. Its not just creeping up on people. There is some force there.
Right now, they are saying it could take months to get power back to all of CR.

WalstonHoover:

My technology skills are limited.  I sent you and coco aerial pictures of Waverly and the Wartburg campus.  If you got them and want to share on this site that would be fine.  I just didn't know how to do it.

I've tried several times to post pictures here and have no idea how to do it. I will give everyone a play-by-play description of them though  8)

Like I said before, I had no idea if that was a high amount or not. Wasn't the WBB coach that was there before the Mt Ida coach there for a long time, or am I thinking of somewhere else.
Wartburg in WBB, tennis, golf, and soccers, and technically, Koehler although he was promoted from within and Willis stayed at the school.

First off, my prayers are with all of you who are facing floods and the repeated threats of tornado warnings or actual strikes.  My heart goes out to so many people when I see them on TV or when I went through Des Moines a couple of days ago and the areas where I went through are now closed.  I think the only way to get to the airport in Des Moines from Pella right now is to fly in.  Every other path seems to be under water.

Mick Angel and Natalie Nakic were not long for WBB and Lionel Sinn and Dan Mason were not ver long for men's basketball.  If you go back before that though, Gary Boeyink was at Central from the time the women started playing basketball until he retired and Jack Walvoord was at Central for the men for years and years.  I also tend to agree that unless you are having some success, no coach will be in a position for too long.  Not that they will necessarily be pushed out, but they may feel they just can't bring the school any further and it is time to move on.  Recruiting is a tiring and seemingly never ending job.  If you don't have a successful record, the difficulty is multiplied several times over.  I can understand why coaches get to the point that they need to either move on or to something else.  It takes away from family time.

Also you might want to take into consideration that the new Central women's basketball coach has been the assistant for some time now and has tons of coaching experience.  The volleyball coach was also an assistant before taking over head coaching duties, and he took over for his sister-in-law.

I know we've been dealing with weather drama around here and it is the summer break.  But does it seem odd to anyone that nothing has come out about a possible replacement for the IIAC Commishioner???
I seriously don't know how important the position is. Its more of a figure-head than anything else, isn't it? Was there even one before Johnny Cochrane?

I know a Sanger that would be perfect in that position.   ::)

In the midst of all the bad news going on around the state today, there is some good news happening too.  Breitbach's reopened today and I heard a report this morning that FIVE THOUSAND people called Mikey sometime in the past week to schedule a reservation.

So, a few weeks ago there were some kind posters on here who gave me a skunk odor cure for my dog that got into a fight with a skunk.

That would bring me to my next question.  Does anyone on here know how to break a dog of getting into fights with skunks???  Because tonight would be round 2 that Millie the wonder dog has lost to said skunk!!!

If it happens a third time, I would suggest getting "Millie the slow learner" either a nose test or an IQ test! :D

[But in defense of Millie, have you checked with the skunk to see if she really lost? ;)]
