Tyler Staker is a great example of someone who was tempted to walk on at Iowa. I credit Ferentz' staff with not filling his head with false hope. Instead they were realistic about his opportunities at Iowa vs. Coe. Tyler chose to go to Coe and was a four-year starter and a three time Iowa Conference champion.

I'm #4, but only for the football team.  Watching Iowa basketball makes me want to rip my eyes out with a chimney poker.

hey charlie,

the fact that his four siblings went to Coe and his three brothers all played for Coe and that his father is a coach at Coe had nothing to do with his decision.

Dutchfan1,

I'm #5.

Confused77,

I like to agree with most of what you say about walk ons but Dutchfan1 makes a great point.  We certainly should not be here "raining" on kids parades.  Hard to tell Dallas Clark he should have gone to Central, Wartburg, Coe, or any other IIAC school.  I do agree that there are many kids just sitting on the sidelines.  My son went to school with a kid i know could be playing for any IIAC school but he choose to go to Iowa State.  He has made the 2 deeps at long snapper and looks to maybe get that spot next season.  He is living his dream and that was worth it for him.  One game, or one play is worth it to many kids.  Some however see that they are only practice team fodder like someone else stated and they do transfer so they can play.

Here's good luck to all the teams out recruiting and to a great 2006 season.

Look at that Dutchfan1...we're setting the standard! 8)

There's usually too much intelligent conversation on this board for it to be filled with Cyclown fans!!! ;) :D

I think if I did my math correctly...way back when, if I would've walked-on at Iowa and taken a red-shirt, I could've been battling with Brownlee for the 6th/7th deep at RB and took some reps a couple seasons ago! LOL

Back to the IIAC... I havn't heard too much on BV's incoming class.  Still pretty early.

Walston - Is that "D" Coordinator of yours trying to push any guys out to Storm Lake?  We had two take visits, but the one with the best size and talent will more than likely have to go JUCO to get his grades up.

Coocoo - Thanks for the info. I had no idea about the Staker legacy.

Your sarcasm is wasted on me Charlie, I just thought the good people on this board would like to know the truth.  You should try it sometime.

Did you two get into a fight over a girl or something?  Most posters from rival schools don't argue as much as you two do... ???

Women are trouble, boys -- remember that. :D

Seriously, Charlie, CooCoo -- you guys provide more drama than the Jerry Springer show -- any chance for a reconciliation any time soon?

Show- You're probably right...don't most Des Moines kids need to be "pushed" (or dragged) to Storm Lake. Just kidding. But I do have a serious question for you, Show. I heard an ugly rumor that BV's freshman enrollment this past fall was less than 300. Any truth to it?

The Show

Not sure, I'd have to check into it.  I thought that the total enrollment is only usually around 1200-1300 students, give or take, so a class of 300 I think is normal.

Having played with Staker, I have to agree with what Charlie said about Ferentz and Co. being upfront and honest with him. They did the same thing with Suckow out of high school and after his freshmen year at Coe.  It did help that his brothers all played at Coe but his Dad was not the coach there when he was being recruited. I see that cocokohawk fella has some bitterness towards Charlie. Keep arguing amongst yourself, it looks great for the Kohawk Nation. On a different note, I've heard rumors about Billy P landing some pretty good recruits from the state and also building some new facilities....

For all of you to understand this feud you would have to see the arguments Charlie starts with me via email.  I am not willing to post those.  What started this whole battle is when I stated that Coe was running the spread offense this year.  Charlie's reply was:
"CooCoo -- we're on the same team, but apparently not the same page. I think you ought to see a game in person before you report with any authority what kind of offense the Kohawks are using. After witnessing Coe's first two contests, I have no doubt Suckow will get his opportunities, but they may be limited out of the backfield."

Now, Charlie would you like to tell everyone what offense Coe ran this year, and could you also tell everyone where your apology is.

I did not respond with any animosity toward him at that time.  He then escalated this brawl when he went to the Coe Athletic Director whom I have known his entire career at Coe and I am good friends with his brother, and complained to him when I stated that Coe needed better visitor seating.

At this point I could no longer keep quiet.

So, ask yourself, what offense did Coe run this year, and does Coe have adequate visitor seating.  Then ask yourself where Charlies head is.  You will come to the same conclusion that it is up his posterior.

If you would like to know how Charlie started the feud all over again just recently, well, that is for another post if anyone is interested.  I'm sure no one is, but I was just trying to answer some of the chatters recent questions.

To be accurate I stated that his dad is a coach at Coe and not was a coach at Coe, but the opportunity to keep coaching his son was at Coe, not at the University of Iowa.  That was my only point about his dad being a coach at Coe.
