Question for the Board:

If my son (9th grader) was re-roofing a house in Parkersburg to fix some tornado damage.  Is that similar to signing a letter of intent to W?

Walston Hoover - any wedding stories?  Glad to see a Knight marrying up and finding a Central grad to improve bloodlines.

That may give them a leg up but when he goes for his visit to the Central game he will see that that is truly home.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

All I can say about footballkid's summer routine is that he hasn't exactly followed the workout plan so far this summer. His city job has had him cleaning up flood damage for the last two weeks which has included picking up, cleaning and relaying outdoor tennis court surfaces, removing debris from fences and closed areas, and last but not least, emptying sandbags and piling the sand in one area for cleanup. In other words, he's on the farm boy work out program. He's been doing some workouts, but basicly it's eight hours of physical labor a day. As things get back to normal, he'll start back on the workout plan, but right now he looks better than he ever has.
Physiologically, that standard manual labor may be just a beneficial as his workout plan, especially if he is working 8 hard hours per day!

Now all that he needs to do is eat and hydrate correctly.  :)

That is really amazing... I coached against Coach Thomas he is a class individual and I would not want to play the Falcons next year especially in Pburg

How many students are in grades 9-12 at A-P High?

Thanks!  :)

Wow, that brought tears to my eyes.  Long way to go but things are definitely improving in P-burg.  I'm guessing there are between 250-280 kids 9-12.

I would say 250 tops. I don't think many, if any classes have more than 60 kids in them right now.

I think Burmeister was at Iowa with Casey. I interned at KWWL while he was there and before getting to know him a little, I thought he was kind of a prick, but the guy made fun of himself a lot and really was pretty funny.

DutchLB-Boy do I have stories from the wedding. Were you there? First Irish/Catholic wedding for me and when the father of the bride has 12 brothers and sisters, and they are all together, it is quite the event. One of many cousins of the bride is a stud RB and is going to Wartburg next year so not ALL hope is lost for the family.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

The Iowa High School Athletic Association says that A-P has 174 students in grades 9-11, which means they probably have 230-240 students in the entire high school depending on the year.  That makes them a pretty small 2-A school in most sports.  Surprisingly enough, this school year A-P's BEDS number is one smaller than neighboring district BCLUW.

Casey was Paul's center for at least a year, if not two.  I also interned at KWWL a few years back and Paul mentioned playing with Casey a few times while the Chiefs were on TV.  I got along with Paul pretty well.  I thought he was a pretty good guy, but I was there towards the end of his time at KWWL, after I think he came to realize that being a former Iowa quarterback would only get him so far and the ego shrunk a bit.

I would think that these skilz would be something the coaching staff would be looking for, I would suggest be sure to include footage in his highlight DVD that is sent to the coaches.  ;D

this is a great story about A-P, on the front page of ESPN.com

Great story!!!

Amazing story. Coach Thomas is what every coach/teacher should strive to be like. Too often it's about which player can run the fastest, is the biggest or strongest, etc... A lot of people are gifted with talent but more important are the athletes that are great people and hopefully thank the men like Coach Thomas that helped to teach them those great values and life lessons. I applaud and respect him for what he has done and will continue to do......

On a lighter side.......I met Aaron Campman (Packers) when he was a senior in high school and told him and I QUOTE "Hey Aaron, if things don't work out at Iowa, you always have a home at the University of Dubuque!"  ;D

He really didn't know how to respond but was polite  ;D

No, he is from IC and played for IC West. He was a sports reporter @ KWWL for a few years before going to NFL Network

Congrats on becoming a Karma presenter.

And it shows.  I have interviewed Aaron Kampman a few times after Packer's games at my old job.  He was always very polite with the media and would stick around and answer questions.  You felt like he wanted to talk to the cameras because he knew the fans wanted to hear from him.  Some guys would make it seem like it was a bother or they would mumble and give one or two word answers.  Kampman always spoke very intelligently and you got that small town feel.  Always referred to things as a team effort, always spoke of how he could have done more and never pointed fingers.  One of those guys you want your kid to look up to.

Any update from Waverly?  I went camping in NE IA this past weekend (we had to push it back to week due to flooding) with some of the college buddies.  Bridge still out just south of Calmar.  My roommate's brother lost his house in Waverly, but I guess he is fixing up a place in Fredricksburg until insurance money comes through and he can build a new house.  How is clean-up coming along?

What about the rest of the IIAC.  I have heard lots of bad things about Cedar Rapids.  Coe did get hit a little bit correct?  Any major damages?
