Speaking of my Hawkeyes (guilty -- I've been a fan since birth!) does anyone think we will have enough guys out of jail this season to field a team? Will it be a parole violation for them to all huddle together? Think we'll win any games that count this season?

Man, those are questions you just don't have to ask in D3....

After college the Bears will take a shot at them...of course after a couple of DUI's they may finally get released.

Unless of course they are a QB because there is no chance in hell of the Bears ever looking beyond Grossman for a QB....damn it, this is gonna be a long NFL season.

Hang on a sec, I think it's been almost a month since someone brought up the "What will the conference standings look like this year?" question.  Maybe it's a good time to do that again.  Maybe I will print out each teams schedule, give them all a good look-see and give you my thoughts later tonight.
Preliminary standings
Wartburg
Loras (surprise of the year, next time this question gets asked I'll pick a different team) HA!
Central
Coe
UD
Simpson
Luther
BV
Cornell (0-fer the IIAC again this year, next year they will get BV)

COE
Central
UD
Simpson
Luther
BV
LORAS
WARTBURG
CORNELL
If you're trying to put the IIAC teams in ABC order, you're way off.

nice.

Sorry to beat the dead horse here but I've got to weigh in on the Iowa fan comments made by Warthog.

First when you label a group of fan's as rude, idiotic, johnny come lately uneducated pricks, you're going to upset some people. I know you're making generalizations based on a bad experience you personally had but I think you picked the wrong fan base to call out and no fan base is immune from some bad apples, even almighty Wartburg.

Iowa fans if nothing else are passionate and loyal. I know I've sat in Kinnick next to some of "those guys" in fact I've probably been one myself (at ISU last year). But for every bad one you run into, there's 10,000 loyal fans that are there to have a good time and Iowa fans certainly know how to do that! The majority of us  have been with the Hawks through the rocky times which weren't that long before the New Years Day bowl games.

Iowa fans know how to travel and the bowl committees DO notice that. (The Western Michigan game fell on the student's fall break so of course the student section wasn't as packed as usual by the way). Either way, if Iowa wins that game they're packing their bags for a 7th straight bowl game.

When you go down to a bowl game or a road game you hear "go Hawks!" almost everywhere you go whether you're in Tampa, Florida or Evanston, Illinois. I was even on my honeymoon in the Dominican Republic two weeks ago wearing an Iowa shirt on my way to the beach when I heard it!

As long as there are athletic teams there are going to be bad fans. Wartburg has them, Simpson, BV, ISU...and of course Central and Iowa. If you're going to express your hatred for a group of people, you might want to hold off on using "the majority...or 90% of them" and other blanket statements.

I have no problem with anyone giving their opinion but maybe you should choose your words a little more carefully.

As for me this fall, I'll enjoy watching the Hawks at Kinnick with the rest of my fellow "uneducated idiot pricks." When I'm not in Iowa City, I'll be watching the Dutch defend our 3rd consecutive Iowa Conference Crown and build on our 27 game regular season winning streak.

Mark it down, this is exactly how the IIAC will play out this year!!!

Until I change my mind in the next few weeks  ;D

Dubuque 9-1 : 8-0
Central 9-1 : 7-1
Wartburg 8-2 : 6-2
Simpson 7-3 : 5-3
Coe 4-6 : 4-4
BV 3-7 : 2-6
Loras 2-8 : 2-6
Cornell 3-7 : 1-7
Luther 2-8 : 1-7

Dubuque gets an uninspired win against Rockford.  Gets beat in Cali by Redlands.  Then pulls a Central and squeeks by most IIAC teams.  They win a big late season game at Wartburg with a 45 yd hook and ladder play as time expires to win 34-28

Central is Central and always finds a way to win...including winning at home over a powerfull Wartburg team early in the season.  They let a sure win against Dubuque slip through their fingers.  Even at 9-1 over all they somehow get left out of the playoffs leading many on this site to cough "blow job" at the NCAA selection committee

Wartburg takes care of the non-con portion of their schedule.  After an early season loss at Central they steamroll through the conference setting up a late season game with Dubuque that could settle the conference title...Dubuque wins it late prompting the Spartan players and fans to rush the field in their excitement...causing Wartburg fans to write on here that Dubuque fans are classless.

Simpson comes out of the gate kicking butt and starts off 6-0...promting a sudden surge in Simpson posters on here that no one had seen before.  3 late season losses to Central, Dubuque and Wartburg bring them back to earth a bit but the Storm serve notice they are a team to be reconed with in the future.

Coe starts off with 2 out of conference losses.  Causing many on here to question the hiring of Staker.  The Kohawks then are competive in the rest of their games.  Close losses @ Simpson, Wartburg, Central, at Dubuque but going 4-4 in conference leads many on here to re-evaluate and think Coe will still be a top notch team in the IIAC.

Buena Vista starts off 0-5 never losing by more than 14.  They right the ship mid-season to finish 3-2 to get their fan base optimistic for the next year.

Loras gets 2 wins against BV and Luther...the wheels are starting to fall off the Duhawk football wagon...they are on their way to being strictly a basketball school.

Cornell get their usual 2-0 non-con start.  Then much like Dubuque in 2005 they are competitive in most games but still come up short.  They get a win @ Loras and expect good things from them in '09

Luther has a tough time under their new coach.  Beginning of schedule is brutal and early losses demoralize team.  They limp home with wins @ Waldorf and at home to Cornell.

Don't look deeply into this at all...I know next to nothing about most teams and am letting things fly as I type.  And, you know, I'm a Spartan homer...so my eyes are clouded from reality!!!

It is about that time of year again so I figure why not. I'm sure I'll change this a couple times before the start of the season.

I think D-Dog might have already checked ouit for the holiday. Sigmund Frued would have a field day analyzing that dream.

JUST KIDDING!!!!

I guess I'll follow the Knightline and put Wartburg first, Central second, and everyone else after those. My crystal ball only looks one week ahead, so it's still too early to specualte on results.I do think it's Wartburg's title to lose.

I've half-assed it all week thinking about the holiday!!!  I agree, Wartburg has to be considered the favorite...but one can dream!!!  Either way, I am hoping for a bunch of fall saturdays about 65 degrees and sunny coming up!!!

I love that Central comes off the season that it just came off of and WARTBURG is the favorite. Central is underrated again -- just where we like to be. :)

i agree 100% where you have to give past years champs their due.  no one is number 1 until they knock off the champions.  i also realize, especially after this past NFL season, that you also have to look at what team brings back to the table.  college football changes every year because of graduations.  there is no one in their right minds saying the giants are number 1.  they're not even number 1 in their division.
with that said.  i understand where people say wartburg is the team to beat, essentially they are because they probably have the best entire team returning.  central lost a lot.
