I will be the first to say that I am not a Hawkeye fan, nor am I a fan of D1 athletics as a whole.  I have always preferred DIII.  With my prejudices clearly stated, I would also say that I would hope that someone's head will role at Iowa for trying to keep things in house and cover up what happened.  I think the situation at Iowa is long over due for some attention.

I guess I still believe Coach Schipper's philosophy that football players need to be gentlemen first.  The multitude of arrests are bad enough, but pushing a woman who has been assulted to not go to the police is going too far.  It should bring shame and outrage to the entire university.

i agree that something needed to be done.  there were obvious reasons as to why they tried to keep it in house.  of course they don't want to release the young girls name.  it wasn't like there was no action taken.  the kids were kicked off the team.  they wern't kicked out of school... yet.  i would bet that if they are found guilty of any of this they would no longer be attending IOWA.  it is a poor reflection on the entire university, which is probably why they tried to not let it leak out to the press.  i'm guessing the public doesn't know the whole story.  apparently it was not only the football coaches who tried not to do this, but the faculty advisors to the athletics department, her coach, ect... this story goes deeper then expected... i assume.  they should not have released any information until after the trial/verdict/decision or whatever was out.  they should have released them from the team for "violating team rules", then broke the story after the decision was handed down by the courts or after the investingation was completed.

technical due date isn't until 8/8

8/8/08?  As a Wartburg Television alum, you have to do whatever you can to make this happen.

Ooh, that would be soooo easy to remember the date as well.  Don't let your wife eat any spicy food and don't take her on any bumpy car rides to induce labor!!!

Early congrats to you as well!!!

If she waits until her due date, that would get us through most of camp. If she waits another week, it would get us through all but one day of two-a-days.

My condolences to the BV family. Huber was a classy guy, and will be missed by many, many people. He really fought the disease with courage and grace.

(Sorry this was delayed --I've been offline, celebrating the anniversary of my last birthday. ;D I'm not all about this getting old stuff...how do you guys do it so gracefully? ;))

Well the simple short answer is kids.  Kids keep you young.  The other one is learing your boundaries.   ;D ;D ;D  Knowing when and how many to have so that you don't have to recover is a good thing to learn.   ;D ;D ;D

Kids may keep you young when they get older, but mine sure seems like she's making my hair fall out right now. When mine started to thin up top coincides directly with the day she was born.
On your second point-I definitely can't hang like I used to. I find that out the hard way every time I try. After marrying off another Wartburg roommate Saturday night, Sunday was a loooooong day.

One thing you have to remember the truth of things always lie in the middle somewhere.  Does it look horrible for the Iowa Department of Athletics absolutely.  The one thing about our system of justice the accused have more rights than the victim.  If the Department would act to hastily then the perps would sue and get a huge settlement as their rights were violated.  Does this excuse the actions taken by the administration not in my book.  Keeping criminal acts " in house" is just a joke.  They should have called the police and turned in over to them ASAP.  Protecting the accused is not in the best interest of any party.  I know the players were dismissed but IMHO they should have been suspended at the first moment they learned that this could have happened.  Their rights have not been violated.  There is no "right" to play or be a member of the team.  If Ferentz does not get a handle on team discipline he won't be coaching much longer at Iowa.  Now an incoming freshman gets in trouble come on where are they getting these guys from.  Do they not have backround checks?  I  agree that the players should be gentleman at all times.  They represent our university and state.  If they can not put their best foot forward why have them?

about the kid that just got arrested.  i know that is stupid, and just fuels the fire at Iowa, but he was in his home town, not in IA City.  for all we know it could have been his first time being drunk and got out of control.  it was stupid, but shouldnt be blown out of proportion.

OK, I gotta be honest.  I have no clue what this whole Iowa issue is right now.  Anyone have a story link?  Or if someone gets bored at work maybe they can fill in the details about what has all happened?

I tried looking quickly at ESPN but all I got was injury updates and other colleges suspending or kicking guys off of teams for violating "team rules" or breaking the law.  Seems like that is all you read about in College FB during the off season.

It should be encouraging to Hawk fans though that it took 8 cops to take him down, and for just being a redshirt freshman, with a few more years of Doyle's weight program, I'd say he might be able to take 12-15 cops by the time he gets in trouble again.

Quick question for the Central Faithful-
Is there cable in the dorms? I assume so, but you know what they say about assuming.

We had cable in both the dorms and the honor houses in the collegiate center back when I was there (100 or so years ago).  ;D

I've been a Hawkeye fan since birth, but I have a really hard time watching and supporting with my dollars (both tax and personal). The fact that Hawkeye football and basketball players get arrested these days falls less in the news column, and more under "current events." It's pretty routine that you hear of one of their thugs, er, players having a scrape with the law. Part of it is the quality of recruits, part of it is the atmoshphere in Iowa City, part of it is coaching expectations (or lack there of). It really angers and disappoints me that the coaches and institution participates in cover up after cover up. It's frustrating all around.

Thank god for D3!!
