2 QB's in at the same time...all 11 players eligable.  Leave it to someone from Cali to come up with this!!!

Bye Rule this can not happen.  You have to have at least 5 members of the team in numbers 50-79.  Those players are not eligible to catch a ball in high school.   You can only have 6 eligible numbers to catch the ball.  All eligible receivers must be numbered legally not just by position.  Like if the frig played HS ball in the backfield if they wanted to throw the ball to him he has to have an eligible number 1-49 or 80-99.  So while that formation maybe legal by position at the start of the play they may not be by number.

According to http://a11offense.com/  All eleven players are wearing eligable numbers that you describe, however by lining up in the formation they come up with they are meeting the criteria for a scimmage kick formation (punt?)  Therefore they are basically setting up in a kick formation each time they run there offense.  Since they went through National Federation of High Schools I would assume that the offense is legit and legal.

I think it went on to say that while they might not all be eligable to catch a pass, those that couldn't catch a pass could be eligable to run the ball.  I didn't read too much into it.  It made my head hurt.  But it did look interesting.  You would definatly need refs at the game that were informed before hand just exactly was going on and were prepared to see the offense.

Not much love for Luther going on the board much these days...I kinda like everyone not expecting anything out of the Norse this year. It seems in the past years when there was some expectations we just fell on our face, so hopefully things can be a little different this year. From the sounds of it we have a pretty good class coming in...I still think that our defense has the potential to be one of the best in the conference. We will just have to wait and see...

We just haven't been hearing from Norse supporters to get much talk on here.  I wouldn't say it's no love for the Norse.  Just so many question marks from having a new coach everyone is just staying kind of quiet regarding them.  From hearing from Simpson and Coe regulars on here we have a bit of a better understanding about their situation.

Judging by the highlight film shown, it looks like a good defense can stop it. The QB's were throwing into coverage and were more lucky than good. With no pure blockers, the QB's wil get hammered. A good disciplined pass rush that maintains lanes coupled with a zone secondary should keep the lid on this offense. There may be some use as trick plays, but i can't see this being sucessful especially in college ball.

Is Breitbach a WR that also plays DB or a DB that also plays WR???

He goes to Coe, so he's automatically a DB in my opinion.  Oh, that kind of DB...

While you guys are on the topic of Cornell making a move this season, is their any hope for Loras to do the same?  Or will they be taking over for the Rams this year at the bottom of the IIAC?

We have a new quarterback, McGrew and Davis in the backfield, Coach O taking over the OC position, and what looks to be another decent defense.

I'm not going to pretend I know much at this point about what the Duhawks have coming into the season but I figured this would be the place to find out.  I hope we'll have something worth looking at this fall other than the purple track and nice scenery...

Losing their top two receivers won't make the new QB's job any easier.  I think the real question mark for Loras this year is how diverse they'll be able to be on offense and if they can sustain and finish drives.  They seemed to really struggle at finishing off long marches into enemy territory last year, and a potentially one dimensional offense won't help matters this season.  If they can put some points on the board and keep the opposing offense off the field, I think Loras could finish as high as 2nd in the conference.  If they can't, they'll take over for Cornell in the basement.  My guess is that they have mixed results and wind up somewhere in the logjam that will be the 4-7 spots in the standings.

Reading all of this optimism from everyone makes me think that Luther as a pretty good chance of making a push to the top of this conference. While they do have their share of questions mark on the offensive side of the ball, I feel really good about the defense. I think you can look around the IIAC and pretty much find big ? marks with every team. Can UD and Central replace the big talent that they lost? Who will emerge as  a playmaker for the warts? What about Coe...who will step in at QB...pretty tough to replace a leader like that. BV...what about their incoming class...is it bigger this year...will they have the numbers to compete on a week to week basis in the IIAC? Simpson returns a lot but from what?...If you return a lot of players from a sub par team what does that give you? and Cornell...well lets just say they have a lot to prove...but at the end of the day will they still be cornell? The more I think about it...the better I feel about LC's chances this year. They will get it done a little different then during the Hefty years...but I still feel that they will get it done. Both running backs have played a lot and like I've said before the front 7 on D have the potential to be the best in the conference. It is going to be an interesting year in the IIAC. I can't remember going into a season with so many question marks on so many teams. I can't wait!!

Here are my 2 cents on the younger [Tyler] Staker at Coe ... As anyone who has coached knows, you really have no clue what exactly you are doing in your first couple of seasons.  You prepare the best you can and make the best game day decisions that you can....that is about all that you can control.   As the famous saying goes...its not about the x's and o's...its about the jims and joes.

Walston...were you down at the Central Camp this past weekend?  We sent some kids down there and they said they had a GREAT time!

... I am not saying Cornell will beat Coe this year.  I am saying Cornell could beat Coe this year... IF and/or BECAUSE: ... it's hard to argue that there are no question marks with Coe's offense.  If the Coe offense can't keep the Coe defense off the field through the first few games of the season, whose to say an overworked Coe defense retains its peal efficiency.  Plus being on the field more leads to more chances to get dinged up.

Coe's offense will struggle in 2008

It is always easy to predict that one or two games will play a key role in determining the conference champs.  In recent years most people have pointed to Central/Wartburg and that will be big again this year.  But what game will be a surprise pivotal game in determining the IIAC champion this year?

1) Cornell vs Wartburg
2) Central vs Cornell
3) Coe vs Cornell

I beleive Loras has an excellent opprtunity to move up the food chain in the IIAC because the top teams are retooling and every season is a different season therefore Central, Wartburg and Coe will have to show me they are the best.

Loras is retooling just as much as everyone else, but with a smaller pool... not a lot to start with there...
i feel that we've said that luthers running backs have played a lot many times in teh last couple of years... doesnt always spell success
