When Luther hired Durnin (spelling???) last winter they said the average HC pay in the IIAC was 65K and they were competive with that.  With private schools they don't have to release info like that but word leaks out.  There has been talk on here that there are ways for a coach to make more.  A coach might get X dollars to be the football coach but then he could make more if he taught a class each semester and things like that.  There was also talk on here that when Osterberger left BV for Loras 3 years ago he bumped his pay from 45k to 65k by switching schools.

That sounds like  reasonable level of pay. Being private schools there's not much info beyond leaked rumors.  I recently heard Central's team camps hosted over 600 athletes (re: potential recruits) this month, and that revenue may also be salary boosters for one or more coaches.  I'm sure successful programs find ways to compensate head coaches appropriately and we will never know how much.  I do know some assistants  and minor sports coaches have been paid similarly to HS coaches.

Off topic Cubs fan:

Rich Harden may have been a great pick up but still no wins.  Over 30 strikeouts in three starts and either the hitters or the relievers let him down.  Typical post All Star break performance coming for the Cubbies??? :-\

You can't help but start thinking..."oh no, here it comes" regarding a Cubs collapse.

It's a little early yet.  But if this drags on another week or two the  Cubs could then be in trouble.  At least they have the wild card to fall back on if all else fails.

Of course, being a Cardinal fan I guess it wouldn't break my heart to see the Cubs collapse.

What does everyone make of this... http://highschool.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=825031

2 QB's in at the same time...all 11 players eligable.  Leave it to someone from Cali to come up with this!!!

Back from a camping trip in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.  To answer an earlier question, no fish were caught because I didn't go fishing ... and the only beer wasn't from the northland ...  it was Negro Modelo ... one of my favorites and almost as good along the shore of Lake Superior as on the Pacific coast of Mexico around Puerto Escondido.  Alas ... there were no martinis all week long!

As for the California punt formation offense, my "little" brother is a California Interscholastic Federation football referee ("white hat" ... or as he likes to be known, "sombrero blanco) ... and he tells me that (1) it is cleared as "legal" with the CIF and (2) he hopes his crew never has to face that in a game.

Third ... is that green I see from the webcam at Chalmers Field?

And finally, here is an up=date on the IIAC fan base.  "fannosaurus rex" ... are you an IIACer?  If so, what is yor team?  Glad I got you "du-sz," "wartknight," and "koekrazy87".

Peace ...

Peace ...

Speaking of the Cubs, anybody know why that ump Rob Drake has been holding such a grudge against them all year?

Maybe coaches are like ministers ... the best way to a pay raise is to make a move.

WH got a question. Why did Coach K give up OC and give it to Coach Morrison ? Why chance something that doesn't need to be Chanced ? Don't take this to mean anything against Morrison.  This is just confusing to me.
If its like it was when D-Coordinators were named under Willis, it meant someone else had the title, and therefore the ability to put it on their resume. I don't think at that point any of the responsibilities changed. I doubt it will this time either, but I don't know for sure.

Thanks WH. I was wondering if that was possible it, just thought you or sportsknight would have a better idea than me.

Hey boys and girls, I am back.  Looks like I missed a lot and will have fun reading over the next few days.  August is getting closer and the boys should be chomping at the bit!

Both on the defensive side of the ball, so the real battles were when these two "Big John" types would pound on each other on the basketball courts.

For you guys that are starting to get the itch for six weeks from now, you can get your fix this afternoon by watching the Iowa Shrine Game broadcast.  Starts at noon on your local Fox station (or at least it does here in Eastern Iowa).
