One of our teachers at A-P had a daughter at the Burg and had the sports poster up with a picture of the Hertl trophy with Wartburg in the last couple slots, but a long line of Central before that.

OK, seriously, I'm not staying up until past midnight like last night talking. As much as I like (and don't like) some of you on here, I was a zombie today as I improved the financial lives of my clients. I need to be at the top of my game to do that.

This is weird for me to see UD ranked so low on the party scale based on my memories from so long ago.  That said, as an old man now who would be happy if his kids some day wanted to go to Dubuque, I am happy to see UD ranked a little lower on the party scale.  Must mean UD students are concentrating on academics more!!!
I have to disagree about UD being so low...there are probably more bars in Dubuque and East Dubuque than any other IIAC school town...Bricktown is a decent spot on Thursday-Saturdays, the Julian hotel (whenever it opens back up) is insane, too many strip clubs to name, plus probably 25 hole in the wall bars, plus the bars on the water..and recently (5 years or so) they have been adding some upscale type bars..Lot 1 and the Brewery place (or whatever its called) come to mind right away..east Dubuque just closed the colleseum, looks like they are re-doing that area, but that place was crazy..and cant forget chilli dogs from Mulgrews! Even now when I go back for homecoming or whatever, I still drink wayyy too much..the dogghouse is a block from campus, plus the walnut, the whiskey, fat tuesdays, etc..and remember, there are 3 colleges in Dbq

CR has more bars than any other IIAC town.... well, we used to.
I'll take quality bars over quantity...either measure, Pella at the bottom of the list.  I would agree w/ Central being towards (or bottom of the list) as a party school, but I'll take the six months abroad (especially London w/ a 3.5 week spring break) against anything at any Iowa conference school for any measure of time.......

are you implying that central is the only school with a study abroad program?
Nope...probably did not word my post correctly.  I have no idea how this compares to any other school in the IIAC, but 45% of Central students study overseas compared to 2% nationally (per Central's website).  Some schools in the IIAC may have a higher percentage (I have no idea), but I would think Central ranks toward the upper end of IIAC.

Bottomline, regardless of which school you go to (whether it be a part school Coe or Wartburg or University of FL) or a non-party school (Central or Faith Baptist)...If you didn't have fun and/or enjoy your expericence, I blame student...but this is just my opinion.

I would agree with this.  If the students are happy with campus life does it matter who drank the most beer?  Somehow I don't think that this is a criteria for graduation.   ;D ;D  If the student didn't have a good time while they were there it was there fault not anyone elses. If you didn't have your choice of 30 different bars does that make your college experience less meaningful?  Somehow I don't think so.  Both of my boys (one Wartburg one Central) would not trade their experience for anything.  Both were happy with the social life at both schools.  This is a very subjective topic as I would imagine if the student did not have a good time at their school they transferred to a different one.

I agree with what you are saying, but if I understand the conversation right, it pertained to the top party schools.  I think this spins us into our next topic which would be the backwards ranking.  Which schools are much more committed to academic stimulation on the weekends rather than killing brain cells and doing the funky chicken walk home at 2am with a pizza pocket spilled on your **** because your drunk a$$ bit into it and dumped it all over yourself.

So here is my rankings for the most uptight campuses.

1. Central:  Sorry Dutchie I assume it was not that way when you were there.
2. Cornell:  I think their academic program speaks for itself.
3. Simpson
4. UD
5. Loras
6. Coe
7. Warburg
8  Luther
9. Buena Vista

As for my party rankings.  Here goes nothing.

BV:  Malarkys, Buenafication Day, Brewsters, Puffs, and the Boathouse.  Taco/Beer Specail Tuesdays at the Boathouse, Nickel pitchers at Malarky's on Wednesday, $2 tall boys at Brewsters on Thursdays, Nickel pitchers on Friday at Malark's, Free Beer on Saturday nights at Malarkys.  Along with the suit party and dorm partys including both the basements of White and Pierce made for some interesting times.  The front windows of the Pierce/White dorm were broken out many times on weekends due to reckless behavior.

Coe:  From what I have heard its a great time

Wartburg:  Many friends went there and I always had a great time on visits.

Loras:  Catholic School

Luther:  Trout Fry is its only saving grace.  Plenty of other things to get "high" on other than beer floating around that campus

Central:  Even with its stigma I do know they had plenty of fun.

Simpson:  No offense, I have just heard bad reviews of recent

UD

Cornell

BTW:  KCDutch:  BV offers a J term during January.  I think other IIAC schools do the same thing.  This is a chance for kids to do internships/study abroad programs.  The population of the students who leave campus during this time to participate in these programs is overwhelming, though I do not care to put a % on it.

This post made me thirsty!  I think having the drunk bus running 3 nights a week definitely helps BV in the rankings.  I got hitched this past weekend and on the bus ride from Alta to Storm Lake for the reception we busted out a few "your mom ain't got no socks."  Definitely made me miss the college days.  Luckily for me, I can be the creepy old guy at my brother's dorm parties for the next 4 years.
When it's 3rd and 10, you can take the milk drinkers, and I'll take the whiskey drinkers every time.

Had a get together with some former roommates this past weekend at Lake View (one former S.O.B.er) and the "yo momma ain't got no socks" chant was also relived...   ;D

Fair enough, I'm not sure I would consider 1 month out of the year studying abroad....but I get what you are saying.

I find this pretty funny, everybody (except Central b/c we are aware the "partying" is lacking) seems to put their school at the top of party schools and can't believe people don't agree.  In the past, the a similar conversation took place regarding which schools were hard to get into or were the most academically rigorous.  Most put their school at the top (or upper end) and would argue if others viewed their school towards the bottom.

Luckily, the one area we all can agree and the history is undisputable....Central has the best football program in the IIAC!!  ;D ;D ;D

Central's party scene is the best kept secret in the conference. The secret is so well kept, in fact, that most of the students don't even know about it!  :D

Not good. It all makes me want to puke.

-  Remedy:  3 blocks = walking distance?  3 blocks is stumbling distance.  I'd include Bricks and Dublin City if I were counting bars within walking distance from Coe.  I was in CR for the St. Patrick's Day parade a couple years ago and Bricks and DubCity were just plain nuts.

I've done the walk back from Dublin and Bricks many times...I was thinking 3 blocks b/c that would be easy to walk back from year around...including snow/ice/rain storms when there is good deals or a party on.  I once got a pretty sick walking back from the Mooses in the Winter...guess I should have been smarter and wore more than a sweatshirt!

As far as ranking athletic programs I'd have to sadly give the crown to Wartburg, head and shoulders above the rest of us.  Loras and Luther, amongst others, always challenge for the all-sports trophy, but the Knights are just too good at too many things.  At least we can beat them in sports coverage.

So how about rating the SID's in the conference?  I would put Central's up against any in the conference Larry H does a great job, though he does forget to spell check from time to time.  He sent two stories that got front page in the off season, it didn't take a last minute coaching change to get us on the front page.   ;) ;) ;)

judging off of the records it looks like Dubuque has the toughest pre-season schedule...not juding the strength of the conference because I'm feeling lazy  ;D

I don't know if I would rank UD that high...the Redlands game is a great game for that program and hopefully they could get a home and away out of that. However, the Rockford game is not that strong at all. They play in a very very weak conference and should be a laugher for UD. I would prob say the same about Luther...St. Olaf is a great game...but Waldorf is an easy win for a team that can't say that about really any other game on their schedule. I also think Coe has a pretty tough one...Augustana is gonna be a much improved team and will challenge for the CCIW championship and Gustavus is comparable to about any team in the IIAC. So I would prob move Coe up a little higher and move UD and Luther down. Just my opinion though.

Randy Moore, who was the DC at Wartburg from '92-'95 and is a grad of Iowa is the DC at Otterbein.
Thanks for this update WH. It doesn't seem that long ago he was at the Burg. I played with Randy in HS. I was in Wav (still am) when he arrived to be the DC & almost became one of his asst. However, I was in the middle of a business project & it just wasn't going to work in my schedule. I did manage to get into the football coaching ranks as I will be in my 2nd yr with the WSR Knights (YSF 5th-6th grade football). Last year was a blast & it sure beats the coaching of BB at that age. I will probably "retire" after this year as my youngest son will move on to the big Jr High ranks.

Simpson's SID has to be the best in the conference. For as many football AllAmericans they get, preseason and post season, and if you watch the guys, they're just not that good.
That, my friends, is the by-product of a great SID.
