"If God had wanted man to play soccer, He wouldn't have given us arms" -MIKE DITKA

Sounds like a few of the IIAC schools have had a little clash between soccer players and football players (or soccer-loving sports writers and football players).  Back in high school, our rivals (Caledonia Warriors) had one of the football coaches get in a little bit of trouble for publicly referring to the soccer players as "grass fa**ots"

(are we supposed to censor posts?  better safe than sorry)

Coe really had no problems with Soccer and Footbal, mostly because Soccer was last on the totum pole of Coe Sports.  The only problem we had with them was them playing on our field.

I would figure that with the new FieldTurf install, that would be less of a problem...

But sharing practice time on the new field is is a problem

My sister took a few pics of UD while in town for a wedding last weekend.  Maybe not the best pics in the world.  It should be fun to see the before and after pics when my wife and I are there next month for a game.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/12301803@N08/sets/72157606574323298/

Glad to see the old "Chalmers Field" gate is still up.

My sister didn't get a close-up of the plaque.  But she said it talks about Joe Chlapaty dedicating the Wellness Center in his dads name.  Because of all his dad did for him.

It's especially nice to see these pictures when you consider in 1999 they held a vote on whether they should close UD down!!!  9 years later, and you can barely recognize the place after all the money that has been put into the school.  Not to mention the sports teams have stepped it up a notch as well!!!

Impressive.  I love the fact that there is real visitor seating and it looks great.  Given that visitors judge facilities a lot on visitor seating, I would put this right at the top of the conference from the looks of things.  The score board looks nice too.  It looks like it can display team stats, that is awesome.

Wow, this is great to see. It looks so much better than what they've had in the past (especially the operation they had going last year, although that was due to construction).  I'll be excited to head up University to check this place out here in August.  I'm tempted to break out the video cam when the school year starts and get some shots of it.  Looking at these pics, it kinda makes the Rock Bowl improvements seem almost minor.  Nice to see they got a "mini-tron" like Loras, too. Pretty sweet.

Video would be great du-sz.

Don't sell the Rock Bowl short, that is still a great place to watch D3 football.

I was wondering about the mini-tron on the scoreboard.  Will it show stats or could there be replays and crowd shots and stuff like that on there???  It would be funny if a player running for a touchtown towards the south endzone could look up at the scoreboard and see if someone was gaining on him!!!  ;D

As Klompen mentioned about the visitors section.  I think that will be about as nice of a visitors section as you will find in the conference.  Being a permanant structure it won't get as cold as the portable bleachers that you can walk under.  There will also be a visitors side ticket booth/concessions stand/bathroom facility.  Light years ahead of the old Chalmers Field!!!

Only 1 month away from opening kickoff for the IIAC!!!

If you are gonna do that might as well spend a few extra buck and you would have your webcast.  UD could put all home games on the web and set the bar for the rest of the IIAC.

I don't think the conference has come to an agreement on what video format will be used to share games. There were some using Digital Video tape, some DVD.
A year ago there was some talk about setting up a stream for school to school, but haven't heard anything about that lately.

Coe will be streaming -- video and audio -- all of its home games beginning this year. Now you Wart fans won't have to risk a visit to the ghetto or viewing the game from crappy visitor bleachers.  ;D

Coe football preview is available at http://www.coe.edu/athletics/football/releases/2008_09/seasonpreview080608.htm.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

These previews almost seem to be coming out in predicted order of finish.

Central was first, followed by Wartburg and then Coe!!!

Dubuque better come out with theirs fast!!!

I'm almost surprised the IIAC isn't coming out with a conference wide video deal like the Midwest Conference did.  I wonder how many other IIAC schools besides Coe will have that this year?  Wartburg I would  guess.  I would think Luther and BV would also be on the short list.

Haha, I don't see them going that far. The trons at this level usually consist of cheesy graphics, info, and maybe some pretaped video.  That would be pretty cool, though. More power too them if they can find the manpower/technology for the cameras, direction, and set-up.  I'm guessing they'll go a different direction with the money that would cost.

Also, would the webcast just be from what is being shot by the team? Those are usually a little iffy looking, would we even want to watch that? I guess I'd take anything, but I feel like I'd still have to have the radio broadcast playing.  What audio is Coe using? Thats not too big of a deal, but it would be nice to see a little better quality feed for these games. Maybe I'm spoiled by ESPN :)
