With the year running down.  What does everyone hear about transfers.  Anyone leaving? Anyone coming from any of the D1 schools in the state.

I've heard of a few coming in to Wartburg and a couple other places. Since D3 guys aren't bound by any letters though, I think I'll keep identities a secret until the fall.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Once again it appears to be a sweep for Wartburg in the all-sports trophies. ;D

Fred Jackson struggled a bit today in NFL Europe action as his Rhein Fire fell to the Frankfurt Galaxy 16-14 on a field goal with two seconds remaining. Jackson had 10 carries for 30 yards for a Fire offense that seemed to abandon the run early. He also caught three passes for 13 yards and returned a kick 15 yards. The Galaxy effectively kept the ball out of his hands on punts, downing four and leaving Jackson with one fair catch.

The Fire (5-3) now trail Amsterdam and Frankfurt (both 6-2) by one game with two to play. Amsterdam and Frankfurt play each other next week. The top two teams in the league play in the World Bowl.

A great moment in the telecast came when announcer and fellow Coe grad Curt Menefee talked about Coe while a graphic was displayed showing Coe's pro sports legacy with Marv Levy, Bill Fitch, Carey Bender, Menefee and Jackson. Menefee also talked about how Patrick and Freddy were introduced to football by their mother, who coached them for five years. Great stuff!

Wow!  That is exciting!

Don't forget to go to the Daily Dose link and vote for Freddie Jackson, All Europe League.

Freddie Jackson NFLE Game Highlights

[/size]

Watched Freddie Jackson play yesterday and wanted to get some clips of his game out to you guys.  Even though he didn't have a big stats day you can see that Freddie has what it takes to stick on a NFL roster.  BTW....Drew Hensen was terrible...he may look like an NFL QB but Timmy Chang had much greater command of the offense.

Thank you wildcat11!! Good work. Any chance you can produce another highlight reel next week, when a 9 a.m. start and Mother's Day conspire to cause me to miss the game?

P.S. I failed to mention Fred Hickman. The oversight was purely unintentional.

I had the chance to say farewell to Sean Kennedy yesterday at Paddy's.  It's always bittersweet to see a great guy like him wrap up his college days.  Congratulations again to Sean and to all the other IIAC student athletes that graduated this year.

Also, to all you graduates that have been visiting this site, now that you are no longer contributing on the field it is time to become a fan.  A fan of your college, your conference, and division III athletics.

Coo Coo For Coe Kohawks!

Kohawks Forever!

A crazy finish to the IIAC baseball race keeps the streak alive.  :D  Coach Holst and the Wartburg Knights win their tenth straight baseball crown.  Shared, but a crown none the less.  It looked impossible a week ago.  :o

That was a crazy end to the regular season!  Congrats to Central for winning the last game to salvage a tie for the regular season title with Simpson and Wartburg.  It had to be frustrating for the Dutch to be 9-1 with six games left in the league schedule and to fall to 11-5.

Wartburg looked like they had no chance to win it again this year.  Simpson and Central have to be asking what went wrong to some extent since they let Wartburg back in.  The Knights were like 2-4 in the league at one point (or something like that).  10 titles in a row in baseball is just amazing!

As shown by today's whipping in the IIAC tourney, Luther needs to go out and get more pitching.  The Norse have not had a deep pitching staff for any of the past three seasons.

Rhein fire gains only 194 yards on the day

Freddie Jackson was responsible for 120 of those yards.

Freddy also had 53 yards on four kick/punt returns. With 173 yards on the day, he should retain his lead in combined net yardage gained. The Rhein Fire were hurt by Sunday's 13-10 loss to Hamburg, but they remain in the hunt for a World Bowl berth.

Rhein needs a win next week against Cologne, coupled with a Frankfurt loss to Berlin, to qualify for the NFL Europe championship game against Amsterdam.

The Cologne-Rhein game will be telecast live at noon Saturday (Iowa time) on NFL Network. Coe fans will gather at the Chrome Horse Slophouse and Saloon to cheer Freddy on. Iowa Conference football fans of all stripes are welcome.

Thanks for the update dutchfan1.

I was a part of the conversation in the fall about fake turf versus grass and still have not changed my mind even after playing baseball in the Metrodome this past Sunday.  The more modern turf is better than older turf technologies, but I will still rather see teams playing on the real stuff whenever possible.

If you have a lack of playing fields for your various athletic teams like Coe and have to also use the football field for other sports, I can understand why turf would be such a strong option.  Lots of bigger high schools that also use the football field for soccer and lacrosse also have loved the new turf from that perspective.

I know maintenance costs are higher and things can happen like they did in Kinnick early in the fall, but I love that Kinnick still has that historic feel and that players actually get muddy when a game is being played in the rain!

If you were a Wartburg fan you did not like the outcome, but as a football fan the Luther-Wartburg game last fall was a joy to watch as both teams had to deal with the elements in the rain.  I like the occasional game in the rain or snow like WR Danan Hughes doing snow angels in the end zone when Iowa beat Minnesota in the snow in Kinnick about 15 years ago.

St. Thomas has a new artificial turf infield for baseball and a grass outfield.  The Tommies have talked about a reduction of maintenance costs, but it seems to me that the biggest thing about the new surface is that they are hoping that it helps in recruiting.  It does not seem to help more than marginally in preventing rainouts as the key St. Thomas-St. Olaf doubleheader was postponed for two days before it was played.
