Walston Hoover

Old and married, yes. Out of practice? By that time we will be 4 weeks into the season and I think my players will have caused me to drink quite heavily.

Yes. Screwdrivers all around.
DF1, you may want to wait until after the game to take your one drink. You'll want to be conscious for the game  ;D

Speaking of the IIAC clash of the titans, I propose a D3football.com Team Drink for all Wartburg/Central/conference posters prior to kick at the big game. Anyone in? Warthog, SK, WH? Klompen, DF2004, KC, Fanosaurus? All others? If people are up for it, we can coordinate the week of the game.

Are you calling DF1 out?  You are old and married and out of practice while DF1 is still single and used to that scene.  I think my money is on DF1
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

That will only make you older.  You will have killed more brain cells. You know old people don't recover that fast.   ;D ;D ;D

CORRECTION: So apparently, I was wrong, though not by much, about the age of Coe's apparent starting quarterback vs. the offensive coordinator. Just wanted to set the record straight.

Off topic, but I just got done watching a show on HBO called "Generation Kill". Excellent, excellent show detailing the first month of the war in Iraq through the eyes of some reconnaissance Marines. Its pretty much a "Band of Brothers" for the modern war. I haven't seen the type of combat these guys did (yet) but a lot of the conversations and interactions are dead on accurate.

Jeez, guess I missed a lot on here since I checked things out early this afternoon.

Thanks to doolittle and Wartburg Fan for having my back.  I know that when WH and Warthog flip some sh!t in my direction, that it is all in jest (usually).  I can give and take with the best of them, and Walston and Warthog certainly qualify as "the best of them."

I would definitely be in for a Wartburg/Central drankin' contest prior to the ballgame on the 21st.  Keg race, beer pong, flippy cup...you name it and I'm in.

Also, I was in Dubuque last night meeting my parents for dinner and had the chance to drive by the new UD football complex.  All I can say is that it is impressive.  In two years when every IIAC team has played an away game at UD, I think the place will be counted among the best venues in the league.  Had I known that I was going to have some extra time on my hands and was going to head up to the complex, I would have grabbed my digital camera on the way out the door.

Warthog - My folks went up to Breitbach's for the first time for lunch yesterday and said that things were right back to normal up there.  Mike was bouncing around from table to table as usual, but still made sure that he thanked everyone as they paid their bills and headed out the door.  They're apparently selling t-shirts that say "Breitbach's Country Dining - Back from the Blast!"

Is Feller a returning GI?
No. He's just taken a rather pedestrian path through college, with several stops along the way.

Does he use a walker?

I'm sure they did, ye of few words. And I would guess those injuries affected the Rams game plan and play calling. Thats the only point I was trying to make.

Luther's physicality tanked Cornell's 2007 season

Average margin of victory in non-conference games = 1 point
Average margin of loss before and including Luther = 7.5 points
Average margin of loss after Luther = 28.6 points

OK - my 3-year old is sick and I can't fall back asleep.  It's 3:51 am here in the midwest timezone and there are 17 other insomniacs reading this board ... Amazing!

Pat, have you ever thought of advertising with Lunesta, Ambien or Rozerem?

Wow, guys, I was thinking that it would be fun to have a pre-game tailgate, but if we are turning this into a competition, you're on.  ;)

Warthog, you're right, the Coco's need to join the fun!!

Much as it pains me to say so, it is looking less and less like I will be able to make it for the homecoming Wartburg game this year.  When I do make it for homecoming, I like to join the official pre-game festivities even though the drinks are all soft.  It is just as well.  I wouldn't want to let down my team.  I'm not much for competitive ingestions.  I know it is loser talk but when it comes to drinking, I am one of those guys who thinks you win just by participating.

Do you think Dubuque will have that complex completed by Sept. 6th???  From the webcam I notice the football players are still using the lockers under the visitors seating.  And I know they still have some parking lots to finish.  The track looks like it is getting surfaced today.

For the Dutch faithful.  Any news on when Central will have their scrimage?  I had heard that they were going to scrimage Auggie again this year at Pella.  Last year it was a Thursday night.  If anyone has heard anything please let me know.
It seems to be a well kept secret, though I have heard rumors about this coming Saturday afternoon.

The lane headed to the parking lot behind the home side isn't paved yet either, which I would thing will become a priority pretty soon.  I really can't say how soon it looks like it will be all the way done, but it looks at least usable right now.

This is my distant, uninformed take on the IIAC this year:

!-2)  Of course it is Wartburg and Central fighting it out.  It will all depend on Yordi against the traditionally invincible Central secondary.  Plus to Central. But even Willis can't overcome that def.
3)  Dubuque's new QB (Olen, IA) doesn't have the same swager as Jemar Jackson.  Minus Dubuque.
4) Simpson moves up.  Maybe even over Dubuque.
5) Coe strugglers with coach having left.  Medicore recruiting this year and nothing exceptional returning. Next year they are back in it if they get a recruiting class and one year further head coaching experience.
6) BV stays where they were.  Improving but struggle with retention and recruitment.  Of course they will beat Luther as they have done for a dozen years.
7-8) Loras and Cornell in a pitch battle for 7 and 8th  place.  Loras is an non-entity at this time and Cornell seem to talk about a lot of ZIP. Norse may have a chance with LORAS, BUT......  .
9)  Alas, the Norse are trying to assemble a backfield of some sorts, have an new OL line and have a totally inexperienced secondary compounding on inept play last year.  Doesn't look good.   As much as I regret to have to say it, it appears that the Rams will indeed get their first win in IIAC since 2003 even at Carlson Stadium.

However, Alexander Pope once said, ""Hope springs eternal in the human breast:  Man never is, but always to be, blest".  Who knows.....but even those Norse have a chance.....to be blest.

The Norse finally got B.V. last year as that was the last school that Coach Hefty had not beaten.

Hopefully Thunderbolt feels better about this upcoming season than you do oldNorse!
And I do. I can forgive oldNorse for his moment of weakness. I too, sometimes suffer from self doubt and indecision. But, to concede victory to Cornell?? IN FOOTBALL??? Before the season starts?????
Someone needs to check on this mans well being.
