IMHO the Keys to Success for the RAMS (implies our weaknesses)

Offense

1) Offense line must be our most valuable unit
2) At least the conference average punting yardage, we have to stop giving up the short field with our punting game
3) Must score 99.1 % of the time our offense drives inside of the red zone
4) Must protect the ball from fumbles and interceptions
5) Must reduce the penalties  which increased the number of times we were in 3rd, 4th  and long
6) Must reduce the other times we face 3rd and long from lack of production on 1st and 2nd down
7) Must convert more 3rd and long situations
8) Must score early or take a lead and stop the double digit leads
9) Must make the routine plays, decisions, receiving, running, etc.

Defensive

1) Defensive line must be the most valuable unit to support the run and pass defense
2) Must stop the run 1st
3) Must learn how to stop the pass
4) Must set the tone, defense controls the momentum

Special Teams

1) Must win the field position game at key points in the game
2) Must get field goals when the LOS is inside the 25
3) Must defend the big play
4) Must provide the offense some field position against the good teams

Intangibles

1) We have to get a break from injuries because of our depth
2) We have to get 110% from each player and error free performances
3) We have to gain confidence early in the season, the Coe games is pivotal, beating a top 4 team will had so much to our confidence
4) Must play 60 minutes of football

Looks about the same as YOUR post on page 1189.

Must have been a couple pages since anyone brought up Cornell so it was time for a re-post of old ideas.

Good luck with that one.  Just one IIAC team has beaten 90% in Red Zone offense in the past 5 years (BV in 2004 - 21 scores out of 23 chances).  Only one other team has even been over 85% (Coe in 2003 - 32/36).

Not to pile on, but that would be 110 out of 111 chances in the red zone.

So, pretty much you are saying the rams don't have a chance to be successful???

Willie U

No, just chiming in on the schools strengths and weaknesses conversation.
Although we are the perennial last place team, I do believe we have a chance this season.
Time will tell just how good of a chance.

Looking at the IIAC records last year Cornell was 17-26 in the redzone.  5 different games they were 1-2 one game they were a thousand 1-1 the other three were 4-4. 2-4, and 3-5.  Seems like they just need to get to the redzone more often.

When you are on the bottom. tt's going to take near perfection to compete with the teams in this conference. When the talent is close, it will come down to who executes the best. I have lost some games with one more mistake than the opponent. Granted, a very good team. Since Wartburg, Central, Coe and UD are the top teams, it will take the above for us to win. That goes to beat the other teams too!

Yes, that would help out a lot  :) This is where I beleive failing to convert 3rd and long keeps the offense off the field. Good stats too!

BV's keys to success:

1.  15+ yards per rush
2.  95% completion percentage
3.  force a safety every defensive possession
4.  all punts downed at 1 yard line
5.  increase field goal range to 70+ yards
6.  return every kick for a TD
7.  no sacks, hurries, or hits on QB--ALL YEAR LONG
8.  eat their Wheaties
9.  instead of game film, watch "Rudy" every night
10.  give 237% (110 is for p***ies)

That right there is some STRAIGHT TALK.  All BV has to do is say YES WE CAN.  Can you smell what BOY is cookin', ya damn jabroni?  GIT R DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When it's 3rd and 10, you can take the milk drinkers, and I'll take the whiskey drinkers every time.

I think you failed to mention a few key points to the season.

11.  The Beavers will be wearing leather helmets with no facemasks
12.  Bob Lenhart will not be washing jock straps all season

I'm not sure the jockstraps actually got washed any other year.
