Wartburg to be successful this year I believe they did to find a strong running back(Hammes style runner)  and the team need to realize on any given Saturday anyone can beat you and not have a mental break down Like they do just about every year and let a team that shouldn't beat them win. I should say to win the conference and make the playoff's  that is what I mean by being successful.

For my Dowling Maroons to be successful this year.
Recruit a new stud LT
Recruit a lockdown corner
Recruit a Kick-butt LB
Recruit a noseguard that can take over a game.
;)

I'm looking forward to what WH and Sportsknight think about what weakness or strengths the Knights have

Walston Hoover

Early on, the defense will have to carry the team, and should have no problem doing so. If the Offense doesn't give up a short field, or worse yet, a defensive TD, the Knights will have no problem keeping teams to low points.
Look for team to keep 7 guys in the box early on and put some pressure on the young RB's to find their way through. OL should be good though. The pressure will really be on the unproven WR's and on the more experienced Hoerner to make some plays early on and force another man into coverage. That will make the run game much better. The Knights don't need a great RB, just someone who can hang onto the ball and find the holes.
Special teams should be stellar.

Maybe you should recruit WDM Valley's recruiting coordinator to Dowling ;)
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

I can name Wartburg's keys to success in five words (with apologies to 5WOL):

Just win every freaking game!
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

OK for analysis of what your team needs to do.

Now, as each game goes on, will you evaluate whether or not your team met those goals?  Critique and not just cheerlead.  Makes the board so much more interesting and insightful.

LCNorse

Any word on how LC's scrimmage went today?...I just heard D looked good...and it looks like freshman qb from Vally is slotted in as the starter right now.

Michigan High School Football kicks off this week on Thursday (thanks to the Labor Day weekend) and Friday.  One of the big games in the Grand Rapids area will be a re-match of last year's Division 3 State Championship Game won by East Grand Rapids over Orchard Lake St. Mary's in 5 overtimes, 46-39.

If I play my cards right ... I can make that game on Thursday night ... catch another area game on Friday night ... see Grand Rapids Community College play Georgia Military College (ranked 7th nationally) on Saturday afternoon ... then watch both Illinois-Missouri and Michigan State-Cal on Saturday evening TV.

The only problem might be that my wife thinks I should be packing for our Germany trip, as we leave on Monday.  But what the hey ... I've got all day Sunday, right?

GO SPARTANS!

IF, your wife allows all of that, that sounds like a great weekend.  If she does, you are married to a saint!!!

It's kind of hard to stomach that college football starts in two nights, yet we have to wait another 1 1/2 weeks for IIAC football  >:(

My wife and I are doing a double header Sept. 6th.  Mt. Vernon at 1pm for Grinnell @ Cornell followed by the short drive from there up to Dubuque for their 7pm kickoff against Rockford.  Will do my best for looking at the games with a critical eye for analyzing.  Can't make any promises though.

IMHO the Keys to Success for the RAMS (implies our weaknesses)

1) Offense line must be our most valuable unit ... Yadda, Yadda, Yadda ... 21) Must play 60 minutes of football

You forgot ...

MUST OUTSCORE OPPONENT

Walston Hoover

a couple years ago, I got a doubleheader soph/Varsity game in on Thursday night. Drove up and watched A-P on Friday night saw Wartburg on Saturday and got back to Ames for a night game. That is almost too much football for even me.
Done several Wartburg/ISU DH's in my day. Those are great days although no time to tailgate anywhere.

To have a successful season:

1) bring dry charcoal
2) remember the mustard and relish
3) keep the lid on the beer/pop cooler
4) arrive early to claim a primo tailgate spot near the pine trees
5) watch Luther coeds use the pine tree line as a latrine
6) get to Hy-Vee for black and orange M&Ms and Oreos
