Jefferson vs. Xavier game was crazy last night.  0 to 0 going into the last quarter.  Then Jefferson running back ran 60 yards for a touchdown.  Then Xavier had the ball on Jefferson 7, 1st and goal.  1:40 left in the game.  Didnt get in on four straight plays.  Jefferson took the ball and knelt down to end the game.  Jefferson 7 Xavier 0
Please. The game of the week was at the Dome, where a star-studded, third-ranked CR Washington team beat #7 Cedar Falls 28-9. Big, BIG game to kick off the season.

P.S. I don't have a horse in this race, but I am shooting end zone video. This team has big aspirations -- and deservedly so. Keenan Davis will be a great Hawkeye.

SImpson should stomp GV next week. GV struggled to beat Briar Cliff today who is absolutely horrible. Slight advantage for GV having already played a game.
Apparently 4000 people showed up for it, but I know a ton of people that were going just for the novelty of a team playing their first ever game. If they get over 2000 at any point throughout the rest of the season I will be very impressed.

I also went 1st game ... But was as you said not a very good game . BC would have trouble beating Valley or Dowling 8) 8)

The plans are confirmed...I will attend Cornell's season opener and then I plan on taking Jr. and any of his buddies to the DBQ game.  I am driving in from Minnesota Friday night, hopefully in time to get a burger at Chameleon's.   8)

You will find me with my Ram's Horn hat in the tailgate area that is just to the right of the player entrance.

Wish I could join you guys.

Speedkills84,

Have you done your preseason picks and answered the questions on the pickem board for the tie breakers?  I didn't see them.  If you did just tell me which page.

Also anyone else want to do the pickems this year please get to the pickem board to do the preseason picks and answer the questions.  We will only have one more week till the season.

sorry i'm new but is there a separate board to do the pickems and where is it? really want to get it.

I know I'm generalizing here, but a lot of people seem to have a holier-than-thou attitude in their home area, but take them 10 miles out of town and they want to slam whiskeys and head to the nearest strip club.

And I do know of people who only drink at home if they're inside with the shades closed for fear of upsetting the teetotalers.  There's nothing wrong with choosing not to drink, I just find it amusing the way some people around here act like having a beer is akin to mainlining heroin.

So, brave defender of Dutch sensibilities, although there is some truth to my comments, I was really just kidding around.  No reason to get your panties in a bunch over it.
Oh, you mean like the Pella people that would all see each other at the mall in Des Moines on Sunday and either try to pretend that they didn't see each other or would sheepishly think "well, they are here too!"  LOL

I think Pella is changing much faster than most people realize.  There is a whole lot of pride in this town, so it will probably always look Dutch in architecture, be kept ultra clean, and have paved alleys, but the attitudes and culture of the citizens is changing.

The D's and V's section of the phone book is no longer half the phone book, the town is much more diverse in ethnicity and skin color, we have restaurants that serve something other than burgers and pizza and the parking lot at Wal-Mart at any time on a Sunday is about as full as the church parking lots.   Change is a good thing.

Yup, change is a good thing, but it happens awful slowly in Pella.  The days when it was common to get lectured about the evils of mowing the lawn or hanging out laundry on a Sunday by your neighbors may be gone, but not forgotten!

Go Rams!

Please take it easy on us, allow the Ram fans to enjoy our optimisms, hopes and dreams until time tells us otherwise. We have 8 days to enjoy until time does the talking.
It's getting worse, first he's bragging, then he's begging the team, now he's begging us!   :D :D :D  He is already on the final countdown to giving up the way it sounds to me.  ShowMe, if you are going to come on so strong, don't back down before the first game!  It sounds like Elvis has left the building. :D :D

I caught part of Central's scrimmage with Auggie yesterday.  Looks like we have our work cut out for us on both sides of the ball this year.  I have no idea what Augustana is supposed to have this year, but they are usually an excellent team, I wish we still played them as a non-conference opponent, but then again, maybe this way is better.   ;)  There were some break downs in defensive coverage and some times that we didn't really go anywhere on offense.  I only caught part of the game, so can't say who the starters will be in some positions that are up for grabs.  Saw both Snead and Bandow at QB.  Looks like David Zachary might have the edge at RB.  In amongst the struggles were some flashes of excellence, including the punt out of the back of the endzone by Brondyke that hung nicely in the air and resulted in the receiver being nailed at the 40 when he caught the ball.  I look for big things from the special teams again this year and they will likely pay a very key role early on if we are still shuffling people around.  Let's hope Brondyke doesn't get too many opportunities for 60+ yard punds.

Keeping the other flashes of excellence under wraps.  Why give Wartburg a leg up?   ;) ;) ;)

It looked a lot like two unsettled teams playing each other and that is what these scrimmages are for, so it served the purpose.  Auggie and Central both have some questions to answer and both had some things that looked good at the sake of making the other team look less than sharp.  We will be ready though when the time comes.

Central fans, check out the Sports Page sporting goods store over by Wal-Mart when you come to town.  They have a very nice selection of Central wear at reasonable/comparable prices.  According to the owner, the most popular t-shirt with the students is the "Beat Wartburg" shirt with the Central C on it.  Simpson, Simpson?  Are they supposed to be our rival???  By proximity, yes, but Wartburg is where and apparently "wear" it's at.   :o

Klompen and dutchfan1:

The information about the shirts is great news for Wartburg fans.

When a team with the storied past that Central owns, considers my team their big rival, I'm happy as all get out.

We'll take those shirts as a compliment!  :D
