Three Words:

John McCain, Baby!

Just when I thought there was nothing else we could find to disagree on...I find out you're a Republican! >:(

Take it easy, I'm not a republican, but it looks like they are the front runners. I'm going with Barrack because Obama singled me out personally when he was introducing Biden as his running mate, "...whether you're a guy in sitting in a bar in Cedar Rapids..."

I hate politics on football/sports sites, but do you really think the repubs are the front runners..........I'd give McCain a 15-20% probability of winning the election.   I'm clearly hearing and reading different info than you, should be an interesting 60 days or so.

Nothing gets people mad at each other faster on a message board than talking politics.  We should probably keep that out of here.  I would also wait to see how the thing turn out.  Remember, 4 years ago at 5pm on the day of the election most media were reporting Kerry was winning in a landslide...only to lose 32 states, the electoral college, and the popular vote by about 10 percentage points.

Off now to do some tailgating supplies buying.  Beer, brats, cheese dip, brownie mix!!!

Sarah Palin is out campaigning.  She makes a lot of speeches and her throat gets dry so she stops in a bar for a beer.  She just gets settled when a Simpson football player walks in and sits down on the stool next to her and says, "Hey baby."  Gov. Palin turns her back and ignores him.  The football player orders a beer and says, "You are much hotter than Michigan's governor."  Sarah the Barracuda says, "Get lost ya creep."  So the Simpson man gets frustrated and says, "It must be rough being a candidate for national office and knowing that any thing you do is going to get reported in the media and knowing you can't have any fun."  And Her Honor the governor of Alaska says, "Yeah well it must be rough being a Simpson football player and knowing you are going to have your butt kicked and your face smashed and your guts scrambled."  And the Simpson guy says, oh you mean November 15when we have to go to Pella for our annual beat down?"  And Sarah says, "No I mean when I give the sign to those Secret Service guys over by the door."

The Luther SID seems to go backwards a little more each year as far as the website goes.  In 2002-2003 it seemed like there was a game preview for football on the website.  It was mostly the same preview that made it into the game program, but it was good for people who weren't going to the game or people that were geared up for the weekend.

So far this year I don't even see season previews for the various sports.  It isn't just football as you would think the school would want to preview the ranked cross country programs and the other fall sports.

There are positives about the website that not every school offers, but not being consistent about things like previews puzzle me.

Having video casts does not mean that everything else gets dropped or knocked down a notch.

Kickoff tells you how many players started camp for each of the 239 teams.
I should have known better, you guys didn't miss a trick this year. An absolute must have, for any D-3 football fan. Thanks again.

"What to watch: Despite graduating quarterback Cody Craig, who threw for 2,755 yards and 30 touchdowns last year, St. Norbert returns its top two backs in seniors A.J. Phillips and Joe Brogni. Phillips, eighth in Division III in all-purpose yardage last year, rushed for 721 yards last year, while Brogni had 301. The Green Knights, who have been to the playoffs seven of the past nine years and won 27 of their last 29 games, averaged 38.2 points per game in 2007. Sophomore Bryan Stoppenbach, who attempted three passes last year, is expected to start at quarterback. ... Wartburg, meanwhile, has eight starters back on a defense that never yielded more than 17 points in a game a season ago. The Knights will start three seniors and a junior on the offensive line along with sophomore center Morgan O'Connor. ... Wartburg has won five straight against Midwest Conference foes, including a 35-7 win over Monmouth last year."

So ... after 4 days in Germany and my first time to catch up here ... there has been a lot of reading to do.

I might have a hard time matching the excitement and enthusiasm for Saturday's kick-offs in the IIAC ... but I might try with one thing.  How about last Wednesday afternoon spent in Cuxhaven on the North Sea ... where we visited a "mixed" sauna ... i.e. ... coed!  Nothing quite like sitting around naked in a sauna with other naked people of all shapes, sizes and ages ... and both genders!!!  It took some powers of concentration ... and I did not create any international incidents ... or embarrass myself ... even with temptation staring me in the face, so to speak!!!

Still ... I will wait anxiously to see the outcome of tomorrow's games ... especially tomorrow night's game at Moco Mercer Stadium at Chalmers Field.

GO SPARTANS!

Have a great time in Germany...I have a dirty joke about a nudist colony and a sauna...but I will wait to share that with you in person later in the year...probably not a good idea to share it on a message board  ;D

From the Waterloo Courier article I found this quote about the Luther/St. Olaf series intersting...Last meeting: St. Olaf scored 17 fourth-quarter points last year to upend Luther, 26-19, in Northfield, Minn.

Key stat: The Oles, winners of four straight over the Norse, have outscored them 81-18 in the second half during that span.

The Oles made some adjustments better than Luther last year as the game went on.  The other part of it was that Luther often the last three years would come out to stop the Ole passing game.  That would work for a while until the Oles eventually would find enough in the running game enough to force the Norse Defense to play more honest.  The Norse Defense had some matchup problems on the back end the past two years with the two stud Ole WRs.

Sherden also got a "contact induced headache" (I would call it something more serious) last year around the middle of the 3rd quarter.  That was still early in the year when they were rotating Bass and Lamos after he went out.

As far as 81-18 goes over the last 4 years in the 2nd half, Luther was leading 31-0 in the 2nd quarter in 2004.  They lost 32-31 that day and haven't beaten the Oles since 2003.

The Norse need to protect the ball this Saturday better than the Oles as both teams have new coaches and lots of new starters on offense.  I will be curious as to how effective the Norse running game is as I have some decent hopes for what the OL could be as the year goes on.  The backfields on both offense and defense will be the focus on Saturday.

Great story on Big Tex. Thanks for sharing.

I agree!  He has always seemed like a solid guy.  The two Norse players that came back for a 5th year last year (Stavast and Sherden) had good seasons, so hopefully it works well for Allen this year as well.

Floyd, the 04 St olaf game had some interesting stats. Sherden leads the team in tackles. Brant Rost (last years leading tackler) leads the team in rushing yards, followed by Rietsma, last years starting corner. I guess there is something to be said about putting the right pieces, in the right places.
