s_t65:
The one thing I find a little suprizing is the relative small size of Wartburg's freshman class. (49)
Perhaps I'm wrong, but I would expect Coach Willis will have more new Knights next year.

Warthog, I had heard that Coach K wanted to recurit around 50 kids this year instead of the 60 to 90 kids in the past. It sounds like he was right on that number before he left.

Wartburg Fan:  Saying he wanted 50 kids could be the face saving way of saying, "I can't recruit as well as Coach Willis."  I for one think the more the merrier.  Besides 25 more guys out for football at $30,000.00 a toss comes out to 3/4 of a million dollars.

Another reason; in 2003 Wartburg took six freshman out to Oregon for the playoff game with Linfield.  In 2006 only two were left.  Where would the Knights have been three years later without some of those 2003 freshman players that didn't travel with the team out west?

Another reason; the 2003 seniors had quite a stable of defensive linemen.  Remember however, the one that started some games and played the most downs their freshman year became involved with other interest and didn't play after the 2000 season.  Where would the Knights have been if they stopped recruiting the likes of Vinny and JJ when they landed what they thought was going to be the answer?

I know Dan Hammes was one of those freshman, but I don't know who the other one was. I'm not saying I agree with Coach K on the numbers recruited just saying thats all he wanted to recruit. You can also said that out of that recruiting class of 2003 and I'm not sure of the number but I know it was a large class as my son was one of them that only 9 were on the team as seniors, so is recruiting alot of kids as freshman and losing them due to not playing a good thing or a bad thing? Personally I agree with you the more to pick from the better.  Hoping to make it up to Waverly for the game, But just got back from Council Bluffs. Ms WF not sure if she wants to go.

Go Evil Empire !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would think that the recruiting focus has changed at Wartburg.Last year started with around 90 freshmen. That number was down to about 70 when camp ended. Now I belive there are 34 sophomores on the roster. the sheer logistics of handling such high numbers is staggering. When you have more freshemn that returning players it's hard to evaluate talent in the time available. There are only so mant practice reps and JV game opportunities available. A freshman in essence has to make some kind of immediate impact or there is not enough time to bring him along. With lower numbers, it gives the coaching staff more time to evaluate talent and find a place on the team for a player, allowing him to develop into a role.

Good Luck to all the IIAC teams, even the ones I picked against.  I would love to be proven wrong and see all IIAC teams win this week.  I'll be checking in from time to time looking for updates and eagerly await the post game reviews.

Good Luck to all the IIAC teams and hoping that they win and get through the games without injuries.  I did not pick an IIAC sweep on the pickem board but I hope I am wrong.  I would love nothing better than to have an IIAC sweep.

This is great, get to watch the WB game on the computer and the Hawks on the Big 10 Network.

Walston, are you able to get audio while watching the game on the streamline?  I guess I'll just open a new internet connection and listen to Goetz go nuts that way.

KC Dutch,
haven't been to the OP for a few months.  may be going next week for Iowa game or I just may have people over to watch it here.  do you go to the new one down south or the original one typically?
