I also know that judging by the time and date of your post you were taking part in one of those 2 activities.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

"Also, isn't 6'4" very tall for a d3 quarterback?  Sounds huge unless he is made out of pudding. "

Coocoo:  6'4" is tall for a D3 QB, heck it's fairly tall for any level.. Wartburg has had taller QB's in the past as well..
Wheeler was 6'3"  and Jake Olson was like 6'5" or 6'6".

all 3 were/are athletic and can run..  I got to see Kuennen play a few times @ Denver when my brother was playing and he can make some plays..

Walston, I work with Kampman's sister in law, do you know her?  She's probably your brother's age?

Speaking of A/P, they had their 5th alum sign with an NFL team.  un-real..

Over what time period?

What was the size of the average student body over that time?
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Coo Coo-
Landon Schrage just signed a free agent contract with the Ravens to make the 5th Aplington-Parkersburg alum to currently be in the League.
He joins
Aaron Kampman (Green Bay)(in-laws are Wartburg alums)
Brad Meester (Jacksonville)
Jared DeVries (Detroit)
and
Casey Weigmann (Kansas City)
Whats kind of fun is that I played HS ball with 2 of those guys, rode the bus in Elementary with 2, and Casey's mom is the custodian at the church my wife grew up in. All of them are very nice guys and don't forget where they came from.
I work some O-line camps with Casey during the summer and all of them get back to Parkersburg to lift weights a couple times a year.
A-P is a 1A school with around 200 kids in the high school. The 2 towns together have a population of barely 3000.
The school has been the subject of an ESPN story, several magazine and major newspaper stories, and an upcoming CBS story if memory serves me correctly.
Ed Thomas was also named the 2006 NFL national high school coach of the year.
I'm pretty proud of where I come from.
This is over the last 10 years I believe as Casey has been in the League the longest and I think he started in '96 of '97.
Its been said that A-P has the most current NFL players of any school in the world. I have no doubt that per capita that is true, but I have no way of backing up that they have more altogether.

From Coo Coo on the MWC board-
"You heard it here first.

Monmouth will beat Wartburg.

This is the best year Monmouth could have picked to play the Wart.

they have questions about their Q.B.

they have a new head coach.

all athletics at Wartburg are being affected by all the construction around campus.

If only the game was at Monmouth. "
Interesting.

Well, I don't know a thing about Monmouth other than I might be in love with the girl you contact about a campus tour...

Hey!

You did not quote me on that, you retyped it.

You cheeky monkey.

What are you trying to start?

What page on the MWC board did you supposedly find this statement? ;)

I never have been able to figure out that quote thing, I just copy and paste.

Walston,

Having my kids compete with the kids at A/P was great.  You should be proud of your school.  It truly is a great one here in Iowa.  Ed Thomas is a class guy all the way.  Coach Weigman is too.  I have had more to do with Coach Weigman that Coach Thomas but both are great guys and the kids from A/P are great as well.

Gee, you both are part of  Iowa history.  Congratulations! ;)

Rumor has it Cornell will be changing to white helmets with purple ram horns this season.  Can anyone from Mt. Vernon way confirm this development?

If I remember correctly, that was the style of the helmets back when fmr. Wartburg Coach Willis was a Ram.

The Monmouth Wartburg matchup is interesting, but that is as far as I would go. When I was at Loras we played Monmouth and beat them pretty bad both years. They finished 2nd or 3rd in the MWC i believe. They had a hell of a QB in Purlee. If he was playing now, I would say Monmouth's chances would be infinitely better. Historically speaking, the only team I feel that can line up toe to toe with the top 3 teams in the IIAC is St. Norbert.  I really doubt the MWC is that much better just few seasons removed from my experience.

By the way, the Monmouth campus is pretty sweet. New Phys. Ed center and the such. Very nice. Although it is not fun sitting on top of the press box the first weekend in September for 3 hours or so

I have always thought that the Cornell helmets were just fine or even better than fine considering the school colors and the team name.  The type of horn sticker on the helmet looks better to me than what the St. Louis Rams have.

The part of the uniforms I have not liked is when they got flashy and put the stripe down the armpits to the waist on the jersey or the games over the years when they wore purple helmets, purple pants, and purple jerseys all together.  I am not a big fan of flashy uniforms or wearing what is usually considered alternate road pants with home jerseys.  I know I just offended some Iowa State fans since they look like the giant killer tomatoes at home games, but looking like a giant tomato is not a good look to me. :)  I know Wartburg dresses in all black at home most years, but while they could do better in my opinion, at least it is a non-flashy uniform that is a tough looking black.  They also have a nice winning tradition wearing the uniforms over the last 15 years.

Schools like Central, St. John's, Ohio State, Nebraska, Iowa, and Wisconsin should keep their uniforms just as they are.  They are all traditional looking and remind fans of the respective schools of the days when guys like Hayden Fry, Woody Hayes, and Ron Schipper roamed the sidelines at those schools.

I prefer the old school uni's as well.  Even though teams like Texas, USC, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma are all sponsored by big companies like Nike and Adidas, they rarely change uni's and if they do, they are only minor changes.  And then you have a school like oregon who changes twice a year (the neon yellow jerseys are pretty flashy though).
