I was wondering about that. I've been in posting withdrawal.

I was wondering if Wartburg Nation would jump on that.  Now I see it was another case of the man (or Pat) keeping us down by locking the board  ;D

I actually encourage all this playoff talk.  Lets other teams lay in wait and pounce on unsuspecting teams all occupied with playoff thoughts in their heads.  Of course that is actually just the fans with the playoff thoughts.  I am sure most coaching staffs do a good job of keeping their players heads focused on the task at hand.

Wow -- surprising week in the IIAC. I was pulling for more victories....the BV, Loras, Coe and Cornell losses surprise me.

Congrats to Wartburg, UD and Central for fine non-con wins! It sounds as though Wartburg and Central still have some question marks before the conference championship in a couple of weeks. ;)

Best of luck -- here's hoping for no major injuries.

Heys, how long are you in the Hawkeye State?

I flew out Sunday...back in SoCal now...

I guess you will have to add Central to the list of potential schools that Heys3 will attend.  Talked to the son and he watched the Central/Lakeland game.  Said it was somewhat choppy but could see the plays ok.  Since he was in Cali that is a plus you know that it works that far.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

See...you just mentioned that at the wrong time when I am suffering the withdrawal of a helicopter parent that just had a brief touch and go.

The hardest thing (even harder than a frickin' loss to frickin' Grinnell) to do when I come to watch a game is to get on the road headed out of Mount Vernon to the Eastern Iowa Airport.   :'(

How about some talk about this weeks match ups.  We have kind of beaten the dead horse on the playoff talk after one week of the season.  Maybe the IIAC should have a conference chapionship game and divide into two divisions like the Big 12.  Okay sorry thats terrible idea considering we only have 9 teams and most of them are concentrated in NE IA.

Anyways I think we have a couple really interesting match ups this week.

Carleton vs. Cornell.  Both teams are bottom have teams in their own conferences.  Carleton did win a conference game last season and Cornell did not.  Having the game in Mt. Vernon should help the Rams.  I am really interested to see how the Rams come back after the loss.  I think this is a pivitol game in their season.  A loss here and even a conference win will be overshadowed.

Dubuque vs. Redlands:  Wow this game has me wishing I was heading out to SoCal to catch.  It sounds as though UD's new QB could be something special.  He is young and inexperienced at the college level but I am still anxious to see how they respond on the road.  A win for UD and this could give them a huge boost into conference play.

Loras vs. Millikin:  Millikin is always tough and Loras needs a win before opening up conference play.  A monkey stomp here and Rock Bowl might be lonely place for the rest of the season.  If they can respond with a win it might give them the momentum they need to have a successful season as well.

Coe vs. Gustavus:  Gustavus will bring a good team down.  We played them one year to open the season and beat them in overtime.  It was a heck of a game and heck of a battle.  This to me will be the measuring stick for Coe in regards to this season.  I was very suprised that they got beat by Augie, they have to be looking to rebound.

The other games are pretty much cut and dry.  I see Simpson beating Northwestern and Warty smashing Smogsburg.

Even though its only the second week of the season, I see these as pivitol games.  A win here and its off to the races, a loss and it might be a few weeks before some of these teams break into the win coloumn.

Whats everyone else thinking?

Great write-up!!!  I just want to see wins from our conference.  Last week was an eye-opener.

Cornell just needs to totally wipe out last weekend from their memories and start over.  They aren't as bad as their result indicates.  That said, I think they will need to play mistake-free to get some results.  Or have ShowMe give them pre-game and half-time pep talks!!!

Dubuque @ Redlands is a big game.  If Dubuque can win this game I think they might be on the verge of a really good season.  I just hope they don't go all that way and lay an egg!!!

Loras has to fix things fast, and nothing gets you working better together than an early season win.  If they lose this game it could be a long long year for the DuHawks

I'm not sure what to make of Coe after last weeks game.  Is Auggie that good???  Did Coe just come out flat???  Have they taken a step backwards???  This week will probably give us some answers.

Simpson and Wartburg should get wins this weekend...but lets see some big wins from them!!!  Restore some pride to the IIAC.  I would love to see us end up with a better record against the MIAC then the MWC  ::)

I think that is a pretty fair analysis.  The only part I wouldn't totally agree with is the Wartburg game. Augsburg played well the 2nd half of last season, and I see now have gotten some votes for the D-3 top 25. Considering Coe, Dubuque and Simpson are not recieving any votes, this should be a good test for the Knights. I think the Knights will do fine, but this isn't a gimme.

And just to beat all the other smart a's to the punch, I know the Norse won't lose this weekend.

As a MIAC guy I'd say Carleton has the greater chance for victory than Gustavus.  CC had St. Johns on the ropes last year until very late (final 2 min.?) in the fourth quarter.  And their coach, Ramler, is a former Johnnie and has been doing a good job with below average talent.

Gustavus has seemed to take a few steps back the last couple of years.  Obviously I'd like to see the MIAC win both, but I won't be shocked if Gustavus loses...and Carleton is not a lock either.  If Coe does lose to Gustavus, I'd have to wonder whether that says more about what Coe is lacking or about the strength of the Gusties...only time and more games will tell.

Man it is good to have football season here again!!

IMHO that is just the feelings of a great parent.  I see over in your territory they refer you to you as helicopter parents.  I guess I am and will always be guilty of being one as well.  I want nothing more than the best for my kids and if that is a helicopter parent I am guilty.  If I enjoy the company of my kids as well then I amguilty.  I have a new found respect for you.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

I am going to Redlands.  I am very happy to get to see this game.  I think it will be a great test for UD and the Bulldogs.  I think it will be a very close game.  I give the edge as I have said before to Redlands as they are not traveling 1/2 the country as the Spartans are.  Home field advantage will win this one IMHO.

I would give the edge to Carleton on this.  Just because top to bottom I think the MIAC is stronger than the IIAC.

Millikin has the edge in my book here.  I don't know why other than they play Wartburg somewhat tough at times.

I think Coe gets the edge here.  The MIAC is tough but I don't think GAC is a football powerhouse.

Wartburg I think can win this game but I am not sure about it.  I think Wartburg wants redemption but Augsburg wants to show that last year was no fluke.

Let me tell you Augsburg worrys me alot, I believe Wartburg started playing them in 04 and here are the results from 04 to 2007

04- Wartburg wins by 3
05- wartburg wins by 3
06 wartburg wins by 24
07 augsburg wins by 1

Shouldn't we be alittle concern going into this weekends game, I hope for a victory but we are going to have to play a good game. So I'm not sure if last year was a Fluke if you look at the scores from the past 4yrs
