[On Saturday Dubuque has an opportunity to do something they have only done twice before...beat Luther for a 3rd straight year!!!  The Spartans won 3 straight from '47-'49 and again from '79-'81  There have only been 3 times Dubuque even won 2 straight against Luther '21-'22 and '87-'88 along with the last 2 seasons.  Overall Dubuque stands 18-48-6 against Luther...so they need to go on a looooonnnnnggg winning streak to get this series back to a respectable W-L record ;)
I think this is the year they do it.  The Norse fans don't seem overly impressed with what they have seen this year.  Then again, maybe it is the year.  WB fans have never been this silent during Central-Wartburg week.  Kind of takes all the fun out of it.
Your right. But just wait for all the "I knew it, and I told you so." comments that start coming in Saturday night. Last year there was a total of 198 points scored opening weekend. I have a feeling, that total will be a lot less this year. I can honestly say I'd love to be at all four venues Saturday.

Maybe the Knight Nation is saving up their energy for a 48 hour message board barrage leading into the game.  Or, they know they will be doing some serious tailgating on saturday, and the fasting they are doing now to prepare for the food onslaught that day is leaving them too tired to post much on here!!!

Hopefully the PA announcer at Carlson stadium does a good job of updating us on the other conference gams saturday.  And hopefully the weather on saturday is as nice as it is right now...I can't wait for the drive up there.  The only thing that might have made it better was if the game was in another couple of weeks and the fall colors were farther along.

Looking forward to the BV vs. Simpson game this weekend.  I think both programs have a lot to prove and I look for a great game.  BV has to slow down the Storms running game and the new BV QB will have to direct the offense on some long scoring drives to eat up the clock.  I think this will set the tone for both teams this season.  I see the top of the conference still wide open, and either team has a shot to finish in the top half.  I will have to rely on live stats and TXT messages as well for my updates.

BV has had trouble in the past with Simpson, Obviously looking at Simpson winning 8 out of the past 9 games. Simpson, I can see having some good potential this year to compete with the top of the conference.  If BV does win this game, it will for surely set the tone for the rest of the season.  BV's QB is smart and athletic, not so much a QB's body but makes plays when he has to, I see that him being able to run when he wants a plus to BV's O.  With BV's D, I believe the can shut down the run, they have a ton of guys who love to go to the ball, this is gonna force Simpson to pass, and who would want to pass on Franklin and Sly?  All in all again this game will be tight, and could either way, BV just needs some O, preferably Rushing :)

I'm not gonna complain about not hearing from the burg fans...any amount of time that I don't have to hear from Wartburg is a good time....haha ;D

After reading my post...I will have to admit most of my posts end up sounding alike in some way.  Saying something like BV needs to get the O going, BV will win if the O gets some points on the board and my favorite BV needs an O.

It does seem like we have a lot of really good match ups to get the conference season under way and yet the board has been relatively quiet.  I just hope the "I knew it, and I told you so" comments are from the Wartburg fan that said this year's team was not as good as some of the teams from the past.   ;D  One thing is for certain, if the Central fans that have followed Central for years and know the team inside and out don't know what to expect, Wartburg can't know either.  I think the Simpson-BV clash will be a good one and it may give a good indication of how those schools will do the rest of the year.  I do see Dubuque and Coe winning this weekend, but even those aren't without question.  Cornell always rises to the occassion for Coe, so you can't count them out.  Dubuque sounds like it should have the edge, but how much did last week take out of them with traveling and how much did that kind of loss take the wind out of their sails, so to speak.  Personally, I don't think it means that Dubuque is going back to the way things were.  That was a huge travel trip and against a top 25 team.  I think they put it in perspective and move on, particularly given the outcome of too many of our non-conference games.

I would love to see the Knights vs.-Dutch match up come later in the season. With only Lakeland under their belts, (which still hasn't scored a point or totalled 230 yards of offense in two games) it's a tough task. I know they have the talent and coaching to pull it off, but they will be a lot better team in the 2nd half of the season. A win here would be extremely impressive. The pressure of opening weekend and homecoming, not to mention a 28 game regular season win streak, is a plate full for a young team.

Maybe "BV needs some passing O","BV needs some scoring O", "BV needs some error-free O", "BV needs some penalty free O"

Then again, maybe BV just needs a scoring defense and special teams.   ;D ;D ;D

I hope I didn't imply or infer that UD had gone back to they way they were a few years ago.  They are not the team they were last year, but they played a very good Redlands team.  I don't think they will win the IIAC this year but I don't see them being the doormat either.  They will be very competitive.  I think they are a middle or upper middle team this year.

Darn non-use of spell check :o  It's ok, when she goes to football games she gets to see a bunch of young guys in great shape in tight pants ;D

So far she can't make up her mind if she is going or not.  If she does go it will be us with our 3 kids.  If she stays home I will either bring our son, or our 2 girls...I won't bring all 3 kids...I'm not that crazy, that would be insane and impossible to keep track of all 3 of them.

+K for that.  I agree completely, but since I already boosted your Special K for the day, I can't do it again.  Lakeland really told us nothing.   If we can pull this off, you are correct, it would be extremely impressive.  Not that I don't have faith in my Dutch, but the reality of experience is staring us in the face and we just don't have it yet.  We win and I already give my imaginary Coach of the Year vote to Coach Mac.  Then again, maybe he will be all district. ::)

I didn't think you implied or inferred any such thing, DF04.  It was just my own assessment, not having seen them at all.  It was a loss more typical of teams of the past, but I agree, it does not mean they are going back to those doormat days.  They have more stability in the coaching staff now, top notch facilities, etc.  I think Dubuque is a team on the rise, it may not be a straight shot to the top, but they are clearly headed the right direction.
